Hopeless Ghirapur

Commander / EDH

childodoom

Gentlemen, Ladies, and Eldrazi...it's time to bring the pain! Rev up the little engine that could (destroy a planar bridge) and fly your way into Voltron victory with this viscous vehicular vexing vermin. WinCons for this deck are extremely straight forward: You're going to suit up the Hope and smash face in the early game to try and down someone with Commander damage, while at the same time ramping hard to cast huge Eldrazi beaters in the late game.

1) Ramp (Ramp as hard as you can to cast those Eldrazi)

  • Everflowing Chalice: Good early or late game and the most flexible mana rock in the deck due to Multikicker
  • Mana Crypt: Goes without saying why this card is amazing
  • Explorer's Scope: You have a 37% chance to ramp a land, which isn't terrible considering how often you'll be attacking with this deck
  • Sol Ring: It's Sol Ring
  • Mind Stone: A great 2 drop ramp spell that you can sack to draw a card later in the game. I'm a big fan of this card
  • Sword of the Animist: Pretty much the only reason I run basic lands in this deck
  • Sword of Feast & Famine: Since Hope has flying, you can usually get a hit in with this one and untap all your lands
  • Worn Powerstone: Known as the "Fair Sol Ring" this is still a great ramp card for colorless
  • Clock of Omens: As long as you have two equipment on the field, you can use this to tap them and untap a mana rock
  • Hedron Archive: A 4 drop version of Mind Stone that draws 2 cards when you sack it
  • Thran Dynamo: 3 colorless at 4 CMC is a good value
  • Forsaken Monument: Makes every land you have tap for double
  • The Immortal Sun: Reduces all your spells by 1 colorless
  • Ancient Tomb: 2 life is a fair price to pay for this powerful land
  • Eldrazi Temple: Taps for 2 colorless when casting Eldrazi spells
  • Mage-Ring Network: Can bank 1 colorless every turn, so this is kind of ramp in a way
  • Myriad Landscape: Sack to get 2 Wastes into play tapped
  • Shrine of the Forsaken Gods: Taps for 2 once you have more than 7 lands
  • Temple of the False Gods: Taps for 2 if you have 4 or more other lands, taps for nothing if not
  • Urza's Mine/Tower/Power Plant: If you're lucky enough to get all 3 in one game, you're tapping these for 7 mana total
  • Warping Wail: Can be used to make a mana dork, but you won't be doing this often (if ever)
  • Plague Myr: A mana dork that is also an alternative WinCon with Infect
  • Brass Squire: Pseudo-ramp in bypassing equipment attachment costs
  • Burnished Hart: Another Commander staple that becomes great when you have few land ramp options
  • Foundry Inspector: This can provide crazy value over the course of a game
  • Metalworker: This is the single greatest mana dork for this deck and will often tap for 6+ mana
  • Palladium Myr: A nice mana dork that taps for 2
  • Jhoira's Familiar: Like Foundry Inspector but also discounts your Eldrazi titans
  • Manifold Key: Pay 1 to untap Sol Ring or anything that taps for more and you net mana
  • Conduit of Ruin: Reduces your first colorless spell each turn by 2

2) Card Draw (Unlimited Power and Options!)

  • Bag of Holding: A great source of card selection and card draw
  • Key to the City: Makes your threats unblockable and can draw you a card when it untaps
  • Rogue's Gloves: Card draw when you deal combat damage to a player
  • Sword of Fire and Ice: Deals 2 damage to any target and draws a card when you hit a player
  • Tome of Legends: Gets tons of page counters by attacking with Hope and draws a card for 1; At 1-for-1 this is the best rate in the deck
  • Mind Stone: See Above
  • Hedron Archive: See Above
  • Mystic Forge: Play cards off the top of the deck
  • Trading Post: This card does everything, use it often
  • The Immortal Sun: Draw an additional card on your beginning step
  • Arch of Orazca: You will usually be able to get the City's Blessing due to all your equipment on board
  • Blasted Landscape: Cycle it away if you don't need a land drop
  • Bonders' Enclave: You will almost always control a creature with power 4 or more
  • Mikokoro, Center of the Sea: Give everyone a card, make some friends
  • War Room: The best card draw land in the deck, 4 mana for 1 card isn't a great rate, but it's the best you can get in Colorless
  • Endbringer: Draws a card for 2, which is a great rate in this deck
  • Kozilek, the Great Distortion: Draw up to 7 when you cast this Titan
  • Sandstone Oracle: This can usually draw you 3-4 cards, but it is truly amazing if someone is doing Simic things and has like 15+ cards in hand

3) Disruption (Very, very limited options in Colorless)

  • Warping Wail: Can exile a small creature and is basically your only board wipe protection (Sadly does nothing against Cyclonic Rift)
  • Shadowspear: Forcing your opponents creatures to lose Hexproof and Indestructible can be relevant
  • Umezawa's Jitte: Build up a few charge counters and give something -1/-1 until it's insignificant or dead
  • Grappling Hook: Force small, value creatures to block and die
  • The Immortal Sun: Shuts down planeswalkers
  • All is Dust: Your catch-all board wipe that leaves you sitting pretty
  • Emergence Zone: Flash in some blockers as a surprise
  • Endbringer: Taps to deal 1 damage to a creature
  • Steel Hellkite: This can be crippling to your opponents in certain situations, especially if you're against token decks
  • Duplicant: Exile the biggest threat on the board and get its stats
  • Meteor Golem: The catch-all targeted removal spell and a bargain at 7 mana
  • Sword of Feast and Famine: Discards a card when you hit a player
  • Sword of Fire and Ice: Deals 2 damage to any target when you hit a player

4) Damage Boosting Equipment (Suit up and form Voltron!)

  • Bonesplitter: Low CMC and equip cost for +2/+0
  • Commander's Plate: +3/+3 and Protection from all colors is just...wow
  • Ghostfire Blade: +2/+2, 1 to cast, and 1 to equip on all creatures in the deck
  • Golem-Skin Gauntlets: This is usually a nice power boost for a very low equip cost
  • Masterwork of Ingenuity: Copy the best equipment on the board for double the fun
  • Shadowspear: This card is incredible for its cmc, equip cost, and static ability to remove Hexproof/Indestructible that you can use even if it is not equipped
  • Blackblade Reforged: Typically a finisher, this plus one or two other equipment can easily bump your Commander up to lethal damage
  • Hero's Blade: A great buff at +3/+2 and attaches for free if you cast your Commander
  • Inquisitor's Flail: Basically double strike
  • Sword of the Animist: Mostly in the deck for the land ramp, but it does give +1/+1
  • Umezawa's Jitte - One of, if not the, strongest equipment in the deck
  • Fireshrieker: Doublestrike can turn your Commander into a one-shot kill
  • Loxodon Warhammer: +3/+0 is a nice boost, but the best thing about this card is that it can really pad your life total
  • Sword of Feast & Famine: The only possible runner-up to Umezawa's Jitte as best equipment in the deck
  • Sword of Vengeance: A ton of keywords and +2/+0 make this a decent include
  • Whispersilk Cloak: Unblockable makes your evasive Commander into a deadly threat
  • Grappling Hook: Doublestrike and the ability to pick creatures to block make this both a buff and pseudo-removal

5) Those Who Walk Behind [and their friends] (Lovecraft would approve of your antics!)

  • Traxos, Scourge of Kroog: An early or late game threat that can be given pseudo-vigilance, Dargon-friend
  • Darksteel Juggernaut: He's big, he's indestructible, and he's here to be your friend
  • Conduit of Ruin: A big beater that tutors another to the top of your deck, because he likes to share the fun with his friends
  • Duplicant: Exiles any creature on the board and takes it away from the game for a friendly cup of tea, so they can be friends
  • Endbringer: Friends give you options in life and this guy is no exception, he'll do everything he can in the quest for friendship
  • Soul of New Phyraxia: Nothing symbolizes the power of friendship like making everything you control indestructible, Friendship is Magic
  • Steel Hellkite: Sometimes friends help each other clean up and take out the garbage, this friend will remove a lot of garbage during a game
  • Bane of Bala Ged: We all know that one person who's a bit of a hoarder, so a good friend will help them out by exiling two of their things to prevent board clutter
  • Meteor Golem: It's hard when you have a friend who has a permanent that you know isn't good for them, so this friendly golem will get rid of it so they don't have to suffer with such bric-a-brac
  • Myr Battlesphere: Not only is this a friend, but it comes with four more friends along for the ride...they even work together to show what the power of friendship can accomplish
  • Sandstone Oracle: This friend gives you the gift of drawing cards and then hitting people in the face...for friendship
  • Breaker of Armies: When this guy attacks, he gives everyone on the defending team a friendly hug by forcing them to block #strugglesnuggle
  • Ulamog's Crusher: Much like the Bane of Bala Ged, this friend makes your opponents boards far more tidy
  • Void Winnower: They say don't get mad, get even...but this friend prevents anyone from doing anything that's even CMC so no one is getting mad or getting even
  • Kozilek, Butcher of Truth: A real prince of a friend with drawing you four cards, exiling four things on attack, and just being the bestest of friends I can imagine having
  • Kozilek, the Great Distortion: Nothing makes friends like countering spells over and over
  • Metalwork Colossus: This big ol' friend can usually come out very early to the delight of others
  • It That Betrays: If you swing with any of the friends who are making your foes sack permanents when this friend is on the board, those things will come over to your side and be your new BFFs
  • Mana Crypt
  • Commander's Plate
  • Shadowspear
  • Sword of the Animist
  • Sword of Feast and Famine
  • Sword of Fire and Ice
  • The Immortal Sun
  • Ancient Tomb
  • Eldrazi Temple
  • Field of the Dead
  • Inkmoth Nexus
  • Mikokoro, Center of the Sea
  • Mutavault
  • Stripmine
  • Wasteland
  • All is Dust
