Enchantment (1)

I've always liked Narset as a creature, and as an EDH card. To me, she is the epitome of overpowered card design, perfect for this format. She is usually built to take infinite turns but I find that to be too easy, and easy is boring. Instead, I've done the exact opposite and built a deck that aims to make everything as difficult as possible while still allowing my opponents to participate in the game.

This deck usually wins in one of three ways:

  • By dropping a bunch of oppressive permanents into play along with some mana rocks, and then casting Armageddon or Catastrophe to slow down or lock out my opponents while I hit them with Narset.

  • By casting Approach of the Second Sun from my hand. It stays near the top of my library whenever I cast it from exile, so I eventually get it in my hand. Gaining increments of 7 life while I wait isn't so bad either.

  • My opponents concede out of confusion, frustration, or boredom.

  • Keep an opening hand of lands, mana rocks, and/or a cheap source of haste, and get Narset on the field and swinging as soon as possible. That's the basis of this deck; it doesn't function very quickly or efficiently if you can't do this. And don't "spread the love" or anything goofy like that, keep hitting the same person until they're dead or can block or kill Narset. The deck alone will make people want to attack you, and it's best not to give them more reason to do so by attacking them first.

  • Use Strionic Resonator to copy Narset's trigger and unleash up to 8 free spells instead of the normal 4. This often ends games, since it digs through nearly 1/10th of the deck and almost always hits a wincon.

  • Ward of Bones is important, since it can prevent my opponents from playing more than one land after they all get destroyed. Also helps me to not get hit by too many nontoken creatures since Narset and Sakashima the Impostor are the only two creatures in the deck.

  • Serra's Sanctum can consistently tap for a decent amount of mana, which makes it much easier to recast Narset after she inevitably dies.
