I like the idea of a wizard that gets stronger and closer to omnipotence with each new skill it learns. Mairsil is both flavorful and strong, two things that are rarely mixed on a single card.

It can win in a few different ways:

Keep an opening hand that consists of at least 3 lands and something to cage when you cast Mairsil. Don't make enemies too early (since the deck is relatively easy to hate out of a game), but take opportunities as they present themselves, especially when it comes to removing things. Use tutors wisely.

  • AEtherling is probably the single best thing to put a cage counter on since it allows Mairsil to flicker herself and acquire more abilities for a very low activation cost.

  • Quicksilver Elemental allows you to activate Mairsil's abilities as many times per turn as you can pay , as long as the ability targets her every time.

  • Chimeric Staff allows Mairsil to potentially hit someone for enough commander damage to kill them; can also be 0 if you need to recast her.

  • Entomb is notoriously good. In this deck it can be used to put Anger or Stinkweed Imp in the graveyard, for haste and dredge respectively. It can also be used in response to Mairsil's triggered ability to search up whatever you want to put in the cage at that time.

  • Mirage Mirror is incredibly versatile, both caged and uncaged. If you cage it, it allows Mairsil to dodge most forms of removal at instant speed, and can allow you to make intricate plays like turning her into a copy of Command Beacon and sacrificing her to put herself back into your hand from the command zone, effectively circumventing the commander tax in the mid to late game as long as the original Command Beacon stays in play.

  • Basalt Monolith + Mesmeric Orb lets you infinitely mill yourself one card at a time, so you can get whatever you want out of Mairsil's trigger and have plenty of options after that.
