I wanted to build a non-combo deck for once, having failed my first attempt at such with Thromok/Ulasht, lit upon Ruric Thar and quickly fell in love.

The decklist as few noncreature permanents as possible: I considered only the very best for this type of deck. I also put upon myself a some restrictions, so the deck wouldn't end up as generic R/G creature goodstuff, as well as challenge myself to making as best as deck as I could following those restrictions as closely as possible. Those restrictions are:

Every card I put in the deck had to cost less than $10 if I didn't already own it, such as with cards like Seedborn Muse and a couple of others.

As few ETB effects as possible, because I didn't want any cards to be 'one and done' and while it is possible to flicker them or bounce them back into my hand, if all they had going for me was the body and the ETB, it was generally avoided. This went double for on cast triggers, because the hoops I would have to go through to be able to cast them again, instead of just having them ETB, besides the fact that there are ways for me to cheat creatures into play, which would skip the triggers entirety, made them not worth it.

As few artifact creatures as possible; artifacts don't really fit the flavor of the deck, besides the fact that they are even more vulnerable to removal than regular creatures.

I didn't wanna 'work' for various effects, so I avoided things which required me to pay mana to activate, depend on either triggers I couldn't control, Upkeep triggers, inconsistent triggers like land drops and other such nonsense.

Avoided adding any Eldrazi, save one, both for flavor as well as not wanting to give everyone cancer aids, besides a personal dislike for the damn things.

I did my damnest to follow the rules I set for myself and despite them (maybe even because of them), I had a blast putting this deck together.
