A Hurricane to Your Flickering Flame | Rakdos EDH

The Pit

This is a deck for the impatient. For those not interested in politics, subtlety, or blue magic in general. For those times where you want to be the brightest flame at the table by burning hard, loose, and free. While there are more powerful versions and iterations available, I enjoy this deck as a "75" take on Rakdos, and is one that I'd happily bring into a group of strangers or other people I'm looking to have a solid, social game with.

What Makes This Deck Fun

Part of what makes this deck so fun is simply sitting down and revealing your commander. There's no tricks here, no surprises for anyone. You, and those around you, know exactly how things are going to play out, and it becomes a matter of whether or not they can stop you. Setting the tone for a game this way can be extremely satisfying in the right company, and really make the game a phenomenal race for everyone: By the end of the game you should truly feel like the Lord of Riots, in victory or defeat.

This Deck Is For Those Who:

Enjoy giving straightforward beats
Enjoy explosive games that can swing in any direction
Appreciate being the archenemy of the table
Are able to press every small advantage

The Hurricane

The Game Plan

The goal here is simple: rush out so many big creatures that even the biggest mono-G Timmy-player would blush. There really are only two lines of play: With Rakdos in play, and without. With Rakdos out, accept that one of two things is going to happen: Your field is removed, or you'll win. Prepare for this by playing around what your opponents have the possibility of doing: Always expect the worst case scenario. Hold cards back, or have ways to rebuild. Without Rakdos, it's more about biding your time until you're ready to explode. Play the table against each other, stay low, and set up your boardstate slowly. It takes a little trial and error learning when and where to play any given beater, but each has their uses and half the fun is figuring out just how much you can get away with.

The Candle

I'm always looking for/appreciate suggestions for this deck, so long as they're accompanied with a recommendation and argument towards what needs to be pulled out to replace them! I'm all ears when it comes to thoughts for this deck; the splashier, more dramatic, the better! I am looking to keep it moderately competitive, at least to the point where I'm not locked out just by sitting down.

Budget Options

The best part about Rakdos is his ability to be ridiculously budget-friendly. Any small creatures that can get damage in ( Goblin Fireslinger , Tormented Soul ) partnered with any big beatstick of a creature ( Breaker of Armies , Desolation Twin ) and you're in business! This is also a phenomenal style deck to get a newer player into Commander with. It lacks a lot of the complications that some commander games bring, and allow players to focus on their own setup without too much worry.
