Horror Creeping in the Shadows

Commander / EDH Exile Horror Mill UB (Dimir)

From the shadows of the mind, the bleary-eyed heart pounding silence, comes the horror of nothing. A nightmare pouring more horror, multiplying and eating, at what sanity you have left.

Welcome all! and thank you for stopping in. Please take some time to look over my newest nightmare... er ... Deck!

When Umbris, Fear Manifest was first leaked my jaw dropped and the evil lurking in my binders and brain started brewing ideas on how to brew him. .... then I pulled Toxrill, the Corrosive ... and yeah, I built him first ...

But anyways, that was short lived once I realized that it wasn't really what I was wanting to do or which direction I wanted to go, I came back around to Umbris.

So The deck: When pulling cards and starting the process of build I decided to go with four concepts to blend and build.

First: Horror. You will notice that the creatures in this deck fall to the horror line to activate Umbris ability. This was on purpose, not because nightmares aren't cool, but because selection of Horrors at my disposal was greater and more powerful. Horrors also started to follow the theme of "the horror after a bad nightmare" - think that feeling of a falling dream and waking up as you hit ground.

Second: Mill. Yes I know that Umbris works for exile, activates on exile and horrors and nightmares trigger on ETB, but hear me out. I added the mill with the intent of filling the Graveyards and limiting what my opponents would be drawing to deal with me, which leads me into the third point

Third: GRAVEYARD HATE. With so much regurgitating from Graveyards in EDH, players using the yard as a second deck, makes mill not only hated, but in some cases far less effective.... if only you didn't have a commander that benefits from exiled cards.... right.... I do (insert evil face here). I decided that mixing the graveyard hate cards into the deck would benefit me quite well after milling my opponents.

Forth: Cloning/minor Flicker : OK finally, as good as some of the horrors are, Umbris wants them to ETB so in comes the clones, copying target horrors from the deck and repeating abilities and ETB triggers.

So, note that this deck is brand new, freshly sleeved and that I have no idea on play yet, nor do I know if I'm onto something or if there is the balance for draw to removal. I also have a fairly extensive maybe board, that will probably change quiet a bit as this deck gets played and I hunt down new cards.

UPDATE TIME - Aug. 19/22

Jason or Feddy.... Jason or Freddy... Freddy or Jason?...

Oh right! Deck update time.

Hello all, once again from the Crypt of your minds, we journey into The Horror of the nightmare, sitting in sleeves on the table, ready to once again make people cringe. After again tinkering and playing many, many games, I have again brought around changes to Umbris, Fear Manifest deck.

Where I left off last, I was playing around four different thoughts on the deck and after some trades, a lot of games and some serious soul searching, here is the latest from the depths or horror:

  1. Clones and Cloning abilities were awesome... until it wasn't. It worked well but in the Pod I play in, one realization was: Gyruda, Doom of Depths decks suck when most of the best clones in the game are EVEN casting. This bought about a change to the deck list and more horrors hit the list.

  2. More support has come out in the Last 3 sets and clones became less of a way to play.

  3. Playing Umbris makes you public enemy #1 and more effects like Propaganda became necessary.

Finally, thanks to all that have Upvoted and made this the #1 Umbris deck on Tappedout!!!

I hope that this inspires you, not scares you, leave your thoughts, suggestions and comments guys, I really would like to get this rolling as I think this will be a riot to play.

Thanks again all!
