Maybeboard

Creature (1)

Karlov!

Originally I had this built much more for 1v1... thing is, after playing many more FFA games due to the fact that really nobody in San Diego plays 1v1, I rearranged a lot to make it more sustainable and end-gamy :3 And to be honest, it is now a LOT more fun in 1v1 as well. I just find sustenance is the way to go in edh all around.

There are some obvious inclusions like soul sisters and ghost councils. Some obvious "de-clusions" such as Sanguine Bond (I'm just not really a fan of using it to single target and the local league only allows five iterations of a possible infinite per round).

Some of my favorite cards recently have been Pestilence Demon, Unburial Rites, and Zuran Orb. The demon can really get crazy getting him some lifelink. just one activation can do a ton when he has lifelink, hitting multiple creatures, with Karlov out. Each creature hit will give Karlov his counters willingly! :D -- U Rites is obvious card advantage and if someone's milling us the flashback benefit is tremendous <3 -- Z Orb can be a crazy combo enabler with Second Sunrise or Faith's Reward, and can literally give you a one-shot kill as early as turn 4 (with THIS build, as early as turn 3 if you are particularly going for that).

A note on the mass removal-- I've chosen to run only mass removal spells that I often can avoid killing Karlov with. Austere Command is most times a one-sided wipe while most small creatures aren't a problem anyways, we can kill everything with 4 cost or more and maybe enchantments or artifacts depending on the board state. Toxic Deluge and Black Sun's Zenith are kind of obvious as often times Karlov is way bigger than other creatures on the board. merciless execution obviously will sometimes take Karlov with it but that would be a necessary cast if it's happening... otherwise we get to take out an artifact, enchantment, or planeswalker player :3

Extort in general is amazing, and most consistent/ repetitive drain-type effects are pretty powerful here. Many games can end with a Debt to the Deathless for even just 10 because you've been draining everyone slowly the whole game while people have been attacking the apparent larger threat.

That being said, sometimes you can just go crazy off the start and take out 1-2 people REAL quick. It's a bit risky but given the table, you can sometimes do it safely. Then it's just "out-tempo-the-last-player" type deal.

The rest of the deck is pretty obvious good stuff or extremely synergistic with the deck. Celestial Force, Necropotence, Well of Lost Dreams, etc...

Hope you all enjoy the list, and of course, suggestions are welcomed if they haven't already been talked about in the description!

Thanks for stopping by!
