Nature strikes back! - Rith, the Awakener

Commander / EDH* Casual Loam Multiplayer Tokens

Asakku

Alright, my newest brew in the commander format turned out to be a lands deck. You might have seen the lands deck in Legacy already, this is basically my try to make a somewhat casual EDH deck about it.

Okay for all of you not knowing a good lands deck: As the name suggests it is about your lands, this deck consists of more lands than you are used to in an EDH deck, reason being that you have a lot of control and utility elements in your land base. Krosan Verge and its likes help you get a lot of lands into play, Kessig wolfrun pumps your guys. Maze of Ith helps keeping single big creatures of your lawn and Glacial Chasm just simply stalls the game for ages, while Kher Keep and friends produce friendly tokens that help you achieve your goal.

Basically you want to have a lot of lands in play and control the game with them. Your creatures either help with this game plan or thrive with it. Knight of the Reliquary for example loves your lands. He's getting bigger and bigger while being a tutor for every land you might need. Realm Seekers search up your precious lands while being a huge body.

All good and fine but why is Rith, the Awakener your commander? The answer is simple: He gives you the color identity you need while being able to get out of control quickly. As you might have noticed a lot of lands produce tokens and not only they do, e.g. Elspeth, Sun's Champion does a good job throwing those soldiers on the board. This helps Rith with his awakening plan. So you will either win with a huge Knight of the Reliquary or with an army of tokens.

Furthermore you have a few tutors. Gamble gets you Life from the Loam which is huge in this deck. Woodland Bellower can search up just what you need, artifact and enchantment removal, graveyard-hate, ramp, carddraw etc. Same goes for Green Sun's Zenith.

There is a small "combo" too. Groundskeeper or Life from the Loam (with a cycle land) + either Seismic Assault or Borborygmos Enraged gives you 2 to 3 damage for 2-3 Mana. And with the amount of lands you'll have that can end a game quiet quickly.

Soooo, there is a lot of stuff going on and a lot of ways to win and control. I did not cover everything in this deck for I am a lazy person. Well after that wall of text one could suppose differently but whatever.

I hope I was able to explain a few things about my newest creation. I like playing this deck a lot since it allows for a lot of different play styles while still being somewhat social without infinite combos and its likes. Please feel free to comment and throw your praise or criticism at me. Cheers!
