Overview

insert Ariana Grande or Whitney Houston diva pun Welcome to my Judith cEDH deck tech! You're probably wondering: Judith is nowhere near the power level of cEDH! Why would you call this deck cEDH material? And you are absolutely correct. Judith is and will get destroyed by her peers in Tiers 1 and 2. With that being said, Judith can absolutely hold her own against commanders in the lower tiers of High Power and Mid Power (Tiers 3 and 4 respectively). You still may be thinking: If she's competing with tiers 3 and 4, she shouldn't be built as competitive then! And to that, I say NONSENSE. While the power level will be lower, I really enjoy finding and building competitive builds of commanders in the lower tiers. Not only are the commanders more unique, but the meta is much more diverse, and games end in a variety of ways. We all know the win cons of Top Tier cEDH: Chain Veil Teferi, Paradox Scepter, Hulk and Pod lines, Thrasios and Tymna anything. And don't get me wrong, these win cons have proven to be the optimal strategies for cEDH. My best/most prized deck of Grand Arbiter Augustin IV runs Paradox Scepter and I love the hell out of that deck. With that being said, there is room for unorthodox cEDH strategies and Judith brings that and more to the table. Hope you all enjoy!

TLDR Stats

Tier: 4 (http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/list-multiplayer-edh-generals-by-tier/)

Archetype: Aggro-Combo

Theme: Aristocrats; Pingers

Win Cons: Mike 'n Trike/Ball/Redcap; Judith+ zombie + sac outlet + Gravecrawler ; Nim Deathmantle + Ashnod's Altar + Siege-Gang Commander

When Ravnica Allegiance came out, I immediately looked to the legendary creatures that I can potentially build around. One of my current projects is making an eDH deck with every color combination. When I saw Judith and saw my Rakdos deck slot empty, I started brewing! When looking through tappedout for Judith primers, all I found were budget/casual variants for our diva. And while there is absolutely nothing wrong with budget and casual decks, I noticed there was no optimized/competitive deck. As a result, I put 2 and 2 together and here we are!

To put it simply, Judith will appeal to players that want a different, less powerful style of cEDH: The wacky spike feeders and me. She can be built around to make a very powerful deck, but will never be able to compete at cEDH's highest level. However, that should not be seen as a sole negative! With this lack of power comes an enormous amount of flexibility. Judith can compete with other lower tier cEDH metas, while also being able to compete in casual/ non cEDH formats/metas. Judith is a jack of all trades commander, and will fit well in most play groups.

Deck Tech

Arguably the most important assets of the deck are the sacrifice outlets. One thing Judith does not do is offer a way to sacrifice creatures. Granted, if she did have a built in sac outlet, she would be much higher than Mid Power. Worry not dear reader, as we have quite a few outlets so Judith can ping anything at any time!

Ashnod's Altar and Phyrexian Altar are the classic free sac outlets that generate mana.

Carrion Feeder : our best creature sac outlet, costing zero to activate while buffing him in the process.

Phyrexian Tower : a land that allows us to sacrifice a creature to generate 2 black. Functions well as a form of ramp and a Judith enabler.

Sadistic Hypnotist : we don't have a ton of interaction in this deck, so the hypnotist allows us to lock our opponents down a bit by reducing the number of cards in their hands.

Viscera Seer : similar to Carrion Feeder, but you scry 1 instead. Very nice value that creates consistency within the deck.

As with every competitive deck, consistency stems from our abilities to draw cards and tutor. Luckily, Red and Black have a plethora of ways to draw cards, both in creatures and non-creature strategies.

Dark Confidant : Arguably a staple in every black deck. 2 Mana creature that allows you to draw 2 every turn is insane.

Grim Haruspex : Very niche card that works very well with Judith.

Viscera Seer : While technically not draw, the amount of value and card selection you get out of Seer is crazy.

Necropotence : Your life is a resource. Take advantage of it!

Phyrexian Arena : Same deal as Necro, just not as good :/

Faithless Looting : Nice card that filters our hand and or gets creatures into the yard.

Skullclamp : Auto include in any sacrifice deck.

With this deck, and any deck for that matter, knowing what to tutor for is essential to playing the deck optimally.

Imperial Recruiter : Depending on your board state, you will get main draw or combo pieces. Popular options are Murderous Redcap , Dark Confidant , Walking Ballista , Triskelion , Siege-Gang Commander and Gravecrawler .

Entomb and Buried Alive will get any number of the above creatures into the yard.

Demonic Tutor , Diabolic Intent , Gamble , Sidisi, Undead Vizier , Vampiric Tutor , Imperial Seal get literally anything in your deck.

While Red struggles in the ramp department, Black has no such deficiency.

Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Cabal Coffers is crazy good in this deck since more than 3/4 of our deck is black.

Phyrexian Tower : Sac a creature for 2 black is good.

Pitiless Plunderer and Pawn of Ulamog : turn sac fodder into mana

Solemn Simulacrum : Normally I do don't put Sad robot in competitive decks, but he performs exceptionally well here.
