This is a semi-competitive take on Animar, originally built under $500 but now closer to $750. The crux of this deck's value engine is X-cost creatures and recurrable bounce effects that let you keep recasting those creatures at bigger and bigger X values, all while making Animar huge in the process. It wins either by going infinite, burning everyone to death with Purphoros, God of the Forge, or simply amassing an unstoppable army of big bois.

When playing with this deck, you generally want to cast Animar as fast as possible, and not cast any creatures (other than 1-drop dorks) until Animar is out, to maximize how many counters you get on him. You should try to get Animar out on turn 2 if possible, if not then turn 3. Never keep an opening hand that doesn't let you cast Animar by turn 3.

Turn 2 Animar can be achieved by casting a 1-drop dork with an untapped shock or check land, using X=0 Green Sun's Zenith to grab Dryad Arbor, or enchanting a dual land with one of the land enchantments that adds extra mana.

Notable card interactions: - Ancestral Statue is the essential Animar combo, going infinite as soon as Animar is at 4 or more. Once you have the loop, you can burn everyone to death with Purphoros, God of the Forge. You can also draw your deck with Hydroid Krasis or Beast Whisperer to find Purphoros, then use another bounce creature if necessary to avoid decking out. - Palinchron for infinite mana if you have four lands that can tap for blue. - Portal of Sanctuary to bounce X creatures to hand after Animar gets bigger and recast them. Substitute a Crystal Shard or Erratic Portal if you have one. - Shrieking Drake, AEthersnipe, and Dream Stalker all bounce themselves to hand on ETB. Once Animar is big enough, this means every blue mana you have = another Animar counter. - The Ozolith can absorb Animar's counters if he gets removed and let you put them back on when he's recast. You can also cast any X creature for X=Animar's current count, then bounce it and let the Ozolith put all those counters on Animar, doubling his size. - Fierce Empath tutors for different cards depending on the game state. Grab AEthersnipe if you need more Animar counters, Kozilek if you have a bunch already, or Rumbling Ruin if you have a bunch of big creatures and are ready to swing out and win.
