Vedalken Mastermind Discussion

You might consider trying these out: Vedalken Mastermind (infinite mana and Teferi replays if you can generate 8+ mana with 3 rocks), Isochron Scepter , Merchant Scroll , Fabricate , Sculpting Steel , Copy Artifact , Codex Shredder (recur any card in blue? yes please!), Trophy Mage (grabs Rings), Trinket Mage , Muddle the Mixture , Drift of Phantasms (decent blocker or grabs Rings), Deepglow Skate , Everflowing Chalice , Aphetto Alchemist , Sensei's Divining Top (extra good with untap effects: put draw ability on stack, respond by untapping and activating draw ability again)

Hi,

Interesting deck. Very novel. The win-rate you mention, was that against multiple opponents at once or in 1-v-1 games? Can you mention a bit what happened during these games and what commanders you were playing against?

As for recommendations, we think it would be good if you would add Thought Vessel and Reliquary Tower to make sure you don't suffer as much from your bounce spells as your opponents might.

We feel Stasis could be a wonderful addition to this deck, as it could be a wincon; especially when you also add stuff like Vedalken Mastermind or another card that allows you to bounce (your own) permanents. Get the bouncer on the field first. At the end of your turn, cast stasis (make sure to leave mana available for bouncing). At the end of your last opponents' turn, bounce Stasis back into your hand. Rinse and repeat. Pretty terrifying. We're using this combo in our Brago deck.

Have fun brewing and playing this.

With kind regards,

Mrs. and Mr. NV_1980

Vedalken Mastermind is a 1/1 creature with no abilities when Humility is in play, so it wouldn't be able to bounce.

Sai, Master Thopterist + Vedalken Mastermind + Mox Opal + Paradox Engine

First, tap Mox Opal for blue mana, then with Vedalken Mastermind you bounce Mox Opal back into your hand. You recast mox opal and you trigger Paradox Engine which untaps Vedalken Mastermind. Then you reset the loop and cast mox opal an infinite number of times. You do however have to have 3 extra artifacts on the field in order for the metalcraft mechanic to function, but that shouldn't be too hard to get since we're playing commander.

If you have any other artifacts such as Sol Ring, this is an infinite mana combo; if you have cast triggers such as Sai, Master Thopterist this is infinite token combo; if you have any ETB effects whenever another card enters the battlefield, this can go infinite as well.

Just overall, I just felt this would be sweet to share this since I found it literally by accident when building my Sai, Master Thopterist artifact deck for commander. It's pretty consistent as long as Vedalken Mastermind remains on the battlefield.

generalrenard on Using Muldrotha in Stax (WIP Primer)

I’ve playtested with the dredge cards before, CommanderAdbentures, and I haven’t especially liked them. The graveyard has been more of a way to replay cards that I have lost due to my Stax effects.

Megalomania: I really like the idea of using Forbid, and I will use it. This list has also sucked without Muldrotha, the Gravetide out, and that’s is why I suspect I need more protection for Muldrotha. If Crucible of Worlds is not in this deck, than that is a mistake in need of remedying. Contamination and Infernal Darkness are two options that I’ll add in in replace of other Stax carss as a test to see they’re potential. I don’t especially like Mana Web as I have no real way to break the balance of tap cards, outside of Vedalken Mastermind, I also could potentially use aa Mind Over Matter as a way to break the balance, but I have no real way to draw the absurd amount of cards necessary. The best option for that would be Life from the Loam.

I'm not gonna suggest a whole lot since you're playing Kami about opposite the way I do, but I'll throw out trying Glacial Chasm, as a great way to stay safe while you do your thing. People will just attack other players. When you don't wanna pay the cost anymore, just sac it. Works well with your Vedalken Mastermind too, so you can keep resetting the cost.

If you're all about the comes-into-play triggers, you might appreciate some things like Vedalken Mastermind to let you replay your wizards (as well as protect key cards from removal!)

NV_1980 on Mairsil, Make-Believe Champion

Hi,

This looks like a lot of fun, but it does strike me as peculiar that the deck contains very few ways in which you are able to blink/re-summon Mairsil. I would expect cards like Conjurer's Closet, Erratic Portal, Deadeye Navigator, Vedalken Mastermind and/or Ghostly Flicker. I'd probably also add some more mana rocks to increase the speed of this deck a little.

Have fun brewing! If you have time, I would appreciate your feedback on one of my decks.

Regards,

NV_1980
