Back when I ran Athreos, God of Passage , I was always getting my face kicked in by agro, and was not able to remove problem creatures. I wanted to keep the Orzhov colors, but needed to find a way to get creatures to leave the battlefield.

That's when I noticed her, a cool, collected professional, in a black, yet slightly revealing, Orzhovian garb. Her loyal follower Diabolic Tutor ing in her ear.

Sacrificing 3 creatures for an exile? Not bad, combos well with Grave Pact and Dictate of Erebos .

Whenever a creature dies you get a 1/1 spirit? I already loved tokens, anthems, sacrificing, swarming, right up my alley.

Breakdown:

Primary Directives:

Summon Teysa, Orzhov Scion . Acquire sac outlets. Get creatures and/or token stream, preferably tokens. Exile fields.

Optional Directives:

Enforce the Dictate of Erebos , get assistance from Elspeth, Sun's Champion , or collect a Debt to the Deathless . Do what it takes to Eliminate the Competition .

Getting fodder for the slaughter: Tokens

Teysa, Orzhov Scion matches the donation of each black creature's soul (that dies) with a 1/1 white, flying, spirit token.

Field of Souls matches non-token creatures' souls with a 1/1 spirit token.

Ogre Slumlord matches non-token creatures demise with 1/1 black rats, also gives rats deathtouch.

Requiem Angel matches non-spirit creatures that die with a 1/1 spirit token. These are the most reliable ways swarm tokens in the deck.

Elspeth, Sun's Champion : +1 exile a turn, can fatty wipe, looks damn fine. As a token generator, 5 stars.

Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder : brock breeds Pokémon. Turns 1/1 thrulls into 1/1 spirits with a sac outlet. Overall, 4.5 stars.

Nomads' Assembly : a token for each creature you have, twice! Great for the deck because I don't have instant and sorcery recursion.

Hanweir Militia Captain  : she's easy to flip, summons rare B/W tokens which can be sacc'd to Teysa while creating another token. Overall, 3 stars.

Bitterblossom : easy black enchantment with aggressive cost. Pay 1 life for a 1/1 flier each turn. Overall, 4 stars.

Sorin, Lord of Innistrad : spits out a black lifelinker each turn, when it dies it gets to fly. Can buff creatures by a solid +1/0. Overall, 3.5 stars.

Darkest Hour essentially acts as infinite black 1/1 spirits as long as Teysa is around. Overall, 5 stars.

Rites of Sacrifice - total:

Outlets (8) Show

Bloodthrone Vampire : sac to eat, superphat for 1 turn. Overall, 3.5 stars.

Carrion Feeder : sac to eat. cheaper than Bloodflow. Overall, 4 stars.

Stronghold Assassin : sac for Doom Blade once a turn. Overall, 3.5 stars.

Viscera Seer : sac to legally cheat, great utility. Overall, 4.5 stars.

Fallen Ideal : sac to eat. Buffs enchanted creature. Secret Teysa voltron power. Overall, 4.5 stars.

Martyr's Cause : sac to laugh at burn spells and fatties, useful and simple. Overall, 3.5 stars.

Ashnod's Altar : sac to get . Simple execution, infinite implementation. Overall, 5 stars.

Culling Dais : sac to charge card laser once a turn. Sac card laser to draw = to charges. As a sac engine, 3 stars.

Single Use (2) Show

Infernal Offering : sac and draw two, choose someone to copy you. Bring a creature from the grave, then a friend can do the same. As a sac, 3.5 stars.

Victimize : sac one creature to return two from the grave. Good value. Overall, 3 stars.

Card Advantage and Recursion - total:

Engines (9) Show

Harvester of Souls : a classic from Innistrad. Any non-token dies? Hit the bank. Overall, 3.5 stars.

Smothering Abomination : true tentacles of value. Sacrifices = Draws. Overall, 4 stars.

Skullclamp : to rend a 1/1 and pull two cards from its mind. Superb. Overall, 4.5 stars.

Culling Dais : payoff is slow. Hate to see it go, love to see it walk away. As card advantage, 3.5 stars.

Phyrexian Reclamation : and 2 life to grab a creature from the yard. As reanimation, 3.5 stars.

Grave Betrayal : when your opponents' creatures bite the dust, you get 'em back in black. As recursion, 4 stars.

Reassembling Skeleton : With a sac engine, this guy creates easy tokens for . As recursion, 3.5 stars.

Sheoldred, Whispering One : something from the yard every turn. As recursion, 4 stars.

Sun Titan : get a 3 or less cmc permanent when ETB or attacks. As recursion, 4 stars.

One and done (7) Show

Argivian Find : get any artifact or enchantment in the yard. As recursion, 3.5 stars.

Behold the Beyond : drop your hand for any 3 cards, you should win if you can resolve them. As card advantage, 4.5 stars.

Diabolic Tutor : easy tutor. Get what you want. As card advantage, 3 stars.

Doomed Necromancer : sac to pull something good from your yard, also spawns a token. As recursion, 4 stars.

Infernal Offering : expensive for just 2 cards, but had great value in everything else for this deck. As card advantage and recursion, 4 stars.

Return to the Ranks : mana sink that recurs low cmc creatures. I have 13 creatures in the deck that are hit by this ability. As recursion, 4 stars.

Victimize : sac something worthless to get two nice things back.

Death and Dying - total:

Grave Pact and Friends - (6) Show

Grave Pact , Dictate of Erebos , Butcher of Malakir , and Martyr's Bond are all in the deck to make my opponents lose out more when I sac.

Archfiend of Depravity : control monster. Only I can have more than 2 creatures at the end of their turn. Overall, 4 stars.

Sheoldred, Whispering One : value package. Your opponents are forced to sac each turn, but pricey if you just want the sac. As death, 3 stars.

Wipes - (3) Show

Magus of the Disk : delayed nuke. Hits pretty much everything except lands and 'walkers. Overall 4 stars.

Merciless Eviction : sometimes you need a hard reset. This offers an option for all permanent forms except lands. Overall, 4.5 stars.

Elspeth, Sun's Champion : -3 wipes all creatures above 3 power. Easy and efficient. As a wipe, 3.5 stars.

Lifegain - total:

Consistent Lifegain (8) Show

Blood Artist : a creature dies, steal 1 life from an opponent.

Crypt Ghast : Extort for a spell, also doubles mana.

Pontiff of Blight : Everyone can extort for mana.

Sorin Markov : Has the option to sap life from an opponent or creature.

Soul Warden : Creature enters, get 1 hp.

Soul's Attendant : Creature Enters, get 1 hp, pt. 2.

Thrull Parasite : Extort for a spell, also removes counters for 2 life.

Zulaport Cutthroat : your creature dies, opponents lose 1 life and you gain 1.

Hp Nukes (2) Show

Exsanguinate : pay X to sap life from opponents. Good with Ashnod's Altar . Overall, 2.5 stars.

Debt to the Deathless : pay X to sap more life from opponents. Overall, 2 stars.
