Masters 25 Speculation and Wishlist

Spoilers, Rumors, and Speculation forum

Posted on Jan. 21, 2018, 10:18 p.m. by DemonDragonJ

With the release of Masters 25 being not very far away from the present, I wish to begin speculation about what cards may be reprinted in it and encourage others to do so, as well.

Some of my choices for reprints are Akroma's Memorial, Bitterblossom, Chromatic Lantern, Doubling Season, Privileged Position, and Rhystic Study, all of which are far more expensive than they should be, in my mind. Mirari's Wake has been reprinted a sufficient number of times in the recent past, so it does not need another reprint in this set.

I would very much like to see some actually good dual lands in this set, preferably the shocklands or filter lands, but reprints of the enemy-colored checklands, preferably with new art, would be very nice, as well.

A reprint of Atraxa, Praetors' Voice would be great, considering how much more expensive she is than the other four generals from Commander 2016. Reprints of both Countersquall and Voidslime would be nice, to lower their prices, and Absorb, to have it in the new card frame.

I shall add further cards to my list as I think of them.

What does everyone else say about this? What card would you like to be reprinted in Masters 25?

CastleSiege says... #1

I also really want to see Lord of Atlantis with a modern border and new art. Hopefully the reprint of Cursecatcher is a likely indicator, but if they do reprint a lord, Master of the Pearl Trident is probably more likely :/

All i want to see is Ghave, Guru of Spores

_Delta_ says... #3

Lightning Bolt, Brainstorm, and Counterspell. :)

Hopefully theres a few more good commons/uncommons like Street Wraith, Ancient Stirrings, the tron lands or Relic of Progenitus.

Shame they didn't center the rules text for Lightning Bolt and kept the flavor text.

Today's previews are another batch of excellent cards.

Living Death and Doomsday were unexpected but are still welcome. Vendilion Clique has already been reprinted several times, but a further reprint to keep its price low is always appreciated.

Barely one day after I wished for it, I have received the reprint of Eladamri's Call that I desired; I currently do not need it for any of my decks, but it will be very nice to have at a lower price if I ever do need it. This makes it very unlikely that Worldly Tutor shall be reprinted in this set, but that card is usually better than it, anyway.

Magus of the Wheel is a very nice reprint, but I imagine that Magus of the Will is now less likely for that reason.

Flash and Lightning Bolt are very nice, especially the new artwork on flash, but I would have liked new artwork for lightning bolt, as well.

By far the best card revealed today is Rishadan Port, which many players have been desiring to be reprinted for many years, now. I am very glad to see that this set will have at least one really good land (albeit a colorless one), so I now am strongly hoping for at least one good dual land (I imagine that the entire cycle of filter lands would be too much for which to ask).

February 27, 2018 10:30 p.m.

Didn't Iconic Masters have one filter land in the set? I think it was Graven Cairns. My guess is if they chose to include the filter lands it would only be one.

CastleSiege says... #7

Master of the Wild Hunt spoiled as the first green mythic.

February 28, 2018 3:21 a.m.

Canadion says... #8

Just give me an modern printing of Worldly Tutor...

February 28, 2018 9:53 a.m.

Mikokoro, Center of the Sea reprint incoming!

February 28, 2018 10:16 a.m.

_Delta_ says... #10

Unlikely to happen Canadion with there already being Eladamri's Callprinted. Im surprised it never did get a place in Eternal Masters, instead they went with Green Sun's Zenith for some reason, zenith should have been in this set rather and Worldly Tutor in eternal masters.

But Im honestly hoping for them to reprint Demonic Tutor already!

February 28, 2018 10:19 a.m.

So does anyone else think the Born of the Gods representative should be Courser of Kruphix?

February 28, 2018 10:34 a.m.

_Delta_ says... #12

Yes I would be fine with that.

Anyways Nicol Bolas is being reprinted.

February 28, 2018 10:35 a.m.

_Delta_ says... #13

And filter lands I knew it after seeing these multicolour mythics!

(Flooded Grove, Fetid Heath, Cascade Bluffs, etc).

February 28, 2018 10:40 a.m.

Canadion says... #14

I guess I'll have to settle for Summoner's Pact lol

February 28, 2018 10:51 a.m.

Hold up...did Wizards really just put Strionic Resonator in a set with Reef Worm, Protean Hulk, Sundering Titan, Ruric Thar, the Unbowed, etc.? I mean most of the abusable payoffs are at high rarities, but even at common and uncommon we have Fierce Empath and Man-o'-War. This set has the potential for a bunch of degenerate combos and I love it!

Totally wrong on the filter lands, but I am happy I can at least maybe get Rugged Prairie for EDH.

February 28, 2018 11:18 a.m.

Phaetion says... #16

I hoped Nicol Bolas would be reprinted, but what about the others? Sure, they aren't quite as good, but they could do with a reprint with new art each.

February 28, 2018 11:22 a.m.

CastleSiege says... #17

Absolute zero chance of getting a modern bordered/foil Worldly Tutor between Eladamri's Call and Summoner's Pact :(

Why only enemy filters though?

February 28, 2018 11:31 a.m. Edited.

I think while you can argue that Bolas is kind of worth a rare slot... you can't make that same case for most of the other elder dragons. I would be kinda sad if I opened one in a draft at rare... new art would make them at least worth something though, commander players like myself would want them for that alone.

February 28, 2018 11:33 a.m.

Canadion says... #19

Considering they're not beneath printing legendaries at uncommon (they just did so for Jalira), they could place them in that slot.

I highly doubt they will though.

February 28, 2018 11:40 a.m.

Yeah I don't think they would print them at uncommon either, strictly for limited reasons... i can't imagine having multiple 7 costing 3 colored creatures in my packs lol

February 28, 2018 11:46 a.m.

_Delta_ says... #21

Now if they just at least print some or even most of this, I will be happy with the set: Noble Hierarch,Demonic Tutor, Karn Liberated or Mox Opal, Arcbound Ravager, the tron lands,Ancient Stirrings, Chromatic Star and Chromatic Sphere.

February 28, 2018 11:58 a.m.

I don't know why but I am super happy this was the homelands choice

enter image description here

Also Animar, Soul of Elements gets a deserving reprint.

February 28, 2018 1:55 p.m.

K34 says... #23

Mono blue and mono black legendary uncommons. Are we looking at a cycle?

February 28, 2018 2 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #24

Yes! The filter lands are finally being reprinted! I nearly shouted for joy when I read that announcement, but I did not, because I was at work. I do wish that all ten were being reprinted, but some are better than none at all, and I imagine that WotC shall reprint the other five at some other point. The reprint of Mikokoro, Center of the Sea is also very nice; this set definitely has some of the best lands of any recent set.

Another card that I desired is being reprinted; Ihsan's Shade, and with new artwork, which is very nice, but does not quite have the same aura of darkness and mystery that the original had.

I have seen some players complaining about this set, and I wonder how they can, when the set contains so many awesome cards; some people simply cannot be pleased, it seems.

February 28, 2018 10:34 p.m.

Am I the only one that wants Force of Will? But with Jace and Clique already revealed as the blue mythics, it's unlikely that they'll put Force at rare. I wouldn't mind it, but I don't think it'll happen. I really wanted Force of Will in either IMA or M25.

Azdranax says... #26

As the spoilers currently stand, there's only 1 remaining unspoiled mythic - . Let's hope it's something a little more exciting than the choices that were spoiled today. As for rares, there are only 2 remaining unspoiled artifact, land or gold rares after the inclusion of Coalition Relic. As for the individual colors, still has 4 rares to be spoiled, has 1 remaining, has 2 remaining, has 1 remaining and has 2 remaining.

Of 160 remaining cards in the set to be spoiled, that leaves a truckload of commons and uncommons to be revealed (or 147 to be exact). While I'm impressed overall with the depth and draftability of the set thus far, I'm hoping WOTC uses a good portion of those remaining rare slots for some much needed staple value that fits the theme as well. Demonic Tutor and Food Chain, I'm looking at you.

K34 says... #27

I really think that with the power level of this set they could have shifted Tree of Redemption to rare.

March 1, 2018 6:51 a.m.

_Delta_ says... #28

Yeah it feels like more of a rare. Well hopefully either Noble Hierarch, Scapeshift, or Doubling Season are in this as a rare to make up for it.

March 1, 2018 7:11 a.m.

_Delta_ says... #29

Pact of Negation reprint.

March 1, 2018 8:14 a.m.

Agent_Fire says... #30

Is Tree of Redemption a mythic?

March 1, 2018 8:42 a.m.

_Delta_ says... #31

Yes... Some thought it was fake when revealed yesterday but its clearly real. Not the most exciting green mythic when there was other options for sure. I still have hope though that there will be another good green rare as already mentioned in my above post.

March 1, 2018 8:44 a.m.

Agent_Fire says... #32

I could have seen it as an uncommon. It seems like opening a rare is better than open a mythic for value.

March 1, 2018 8:46 a.m.

Blue and green pacts are great reprints for me. I might even get some for EDH use if they go low enough!

March 1, 2018 8:54 a.m.

Boza says... #34

Delta-117, Pact of Negation is indeed getting a reprint.

March 1, 2018 10:52 a.m.

Agent_Fire - Tree of Redemption at uncommon would ruin the limited format.

I'd like to pose this question again: Would you rather have value cards at mythic or rare?

The obvious answer is rare. You are more likely to open them and with more in circulation, the cost will go down. I am all for a card like Tree of Redemption or Akroma, Angel of Fury being printed at mythic rarity. I personally think Wizards is absolutely nailing this set with their rarity distribution. Obviously some choices are...odd (i.e. the two aforementioned cards), but the set so far looks fantastic.

Some of the new spoiled cards I am excited about (since last time I checked):

Elvish Piper, Hell's Caretaker with a new boarder, Courser of Kruphix (called it!), Laquatus's Champion, and Animar, Soul of Elements.

I'd be quite happy with a Doubling Season reprint for the last green rare, but there doesn't really seem to be a +1/+1 counter or token archetype to the set so I doubt it. I am still holding out for Deranged Hermit though :)

March 1, 2018 11:44 a.m.

Elvish Piper is the first card from Urza's block spoiled, and I'm curious what the other 2+ cards will be. I'm personally hoping for a sweet Greater Good with new art reprint.

March 1, 2018 12:42 p.m.

OG Akroma, Angel of Wrath spoiled at mythic

March 1, 2018 12:54 p.m.

Azdranax says... #38

The only color with rare slots remaining is black at this point, so Im eagerly awaiting those. I am somewhat disappointed by green overall, as it seems under balanced compared to the other colors thus far. Maybe an Eternal Witness at U to make up for it?

March 1, 2018 2:50 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #39

Today's spoilers were not as impressive as were yesterday's, but they were not too bad.

The reprint of the white Akroma is nice, as she is not only my favorite creature, but my favorite card overall, in the entire game, but she really did not need another reprint, and her being reprinted only adds further agony to her memorial not being reprinted.

On the other side, another reprint of Pernicious Deed is always welcome, as that shall help to keep it affordable.

Stangg was a very random choice, but at least one card from the original Legends set is being reprinted, although I myself would have preferred Sol'kanar the Swamp King.

March 1, 2018 9:30 p.m.

K34 says... #40

I'm guessing that since are few to no rares left that we'll be getting the last of it today?

March 2, 2018 6:26 a.m.

Boza says... #41

Yes, masters sets is only 1 week of spoilers.

March 2, 2018 6:27 a.m.

Azdranax

There is still a good chunk of cards to spoil at green but at the moment it seems its only goal is to ramp and pump creatures... while not really offering a pay off for the ramp or any great creatures to pump :(

March 2, 2018 9:18 a.m.

Agent_Fire says... #43

Borrowing 100,000 Arrows seems good against elves in pauper

March 2, 2018 11:34 a.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #44

Now that the entire set has been revealed, I suppose that it was inevitable that not every card would be amazing, that there would be some mediocre cards, but I am overall very pleased with this set. I will not be purchasing any booster packs or booster boxes, but I will certainly purchase singles.

I would have liked to have seen Book of Rass reprinted, since that card has never been reprinted but it very awesome, as it is essentially a colorless version of Greed, which would work in any deck.

March 3, 2018 12:49 a.m.

K34 says... #45

Anybody count the watermarks?

March 3, 2018 8:35 a.m.

The set appears to have a pretty fun limited environment, which is all that really matters to me.

March 3, 2018 10:55 a.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #48

If I did not already mention them, it would have been really nice to have a further reprint of Reflecting Pool and a reprint of Meteor Crater, which has never been reprinted.

Also, I definitely believe that Tree of Redemption should have been demoted to a rare, because its effect, while powerful, should not have wasted a mythic rare space in this set.

March 6, 2018 10:56 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #49

Reprints of Ancient Tomb and Ertai, the Corrupted would have been really nice, as well; the tomb, because it is very expensive and Ertai, because I am certain that he would look awesome in the new border style.
