Azdranax Old Magus

Thanks to finding a small box of my original collection in storage several years ago (with cards dating back to Unlimited, all of which I thought I sold in 2000), I got sucked back into collecting and playing, and now have more EDH decks and modern/legacy cards than I know what to do with - my binder is just a small portion of my total collection at this point.

Other games will come and go, but reliving my high school and college days through Magic helps keep me young, and it's a hell of a lot easier on the body than baseball and basketball. If I can help you in any way, or if you are looking for trade pieces, feel free to reach out - I'm always up to something new these days.

To answer your earlier question, your T/O rank and Helper rank are determined by your activity and comments/upvotes/card suggestions to other users. Currently you rank in the top 20 on the site for both, which means if you've upgraded your account, then you can click on settings and go to your profile settings box, where you will see a box named "rank title" - that is where you can modify your user title to whatever you would like, such as "Old Magus" in my case, since I've been playing since Unlimited.

Hopefully the cEDH hub is added to the site soon, as I really think that would be helpful as well. In fairness, although I would classify most of my decks as strong, if not competitive, the only deck I play I would absolutely classify as cEDH is my Arcum Dagsson deck, and even that one I could optimize a bit more if I wanted to spend a couple grand. In any case, I appreciated your response and look forward to seeing more from you in the future. Thanks.

Adding the various blue spells with buyback to your arsenal can provide for almost unlimited potential win-cons as well, and you don't require infinite mana to do it, just the ability to produce at most 6 total mana via mana rocks, including at least , and you can cast Capsize, Whispers of the Muse or Mystic Speculation an infinite number of times with Paradox Engine in play. Add in Sentinel Tower and Aetherflux Reservoir, and you have multiple additional win-cons that are often just as easy, if not easier, to get to and/or easily solve the problem of your initially planned win-con getting blown up or denied. Capsize is also very helpful in eliminating hate bears and other board denial that may otherwise prevent you from comboing off. Hopefully my Arcum deck Dang Son! It's a Shiny Rube Goldberg Machine! can provide some additional inspiration, as there are some variations to it, with a focus on getting overall average CMC as low as possible to help maximize speed. Happy brewing.

It seems you've been busy today policing the competitive hub for commander decks SynergyBuild - I find it quite interesting that you're chiding so many users for tagging their decks as "competitive" rather than making a much simpler and friendlier suggestion, such as asking yeaGO if it would be possible to create a new cEDH specific hub? I actually think that would be a pretty good idea, as I would guess many users on the site see a significant distinction between a deck being "competitive" and a deck being considered "cEDH competitive". That said, your approach to many of your comments today is pretty off-putting, as inserting yourself as a foremost authority on a topic (in this case, what should and shouldn't be marked as competitive) that very few, if anyone, was specifying with their deck build (on which you've commented) just feels, for lack of a better term, douchey.

Case in point, my Kambal, Consul of Allocation deck does not note anywhere in the description that it is built for cEDH, but if I activate the competitive meter feature, it's noted as 92%. Obviously the competitive meter should be taken with a huge grain of salt, as the value of it is modest at best, but every meta is going to define competitive a little bit differently, regardless of the most optimized tier decks available. I don't play it a ton, as I have 11 EDH decks built out completely, and I try to only play any of them once a night if possible. Even so, in 4 and 5 player pods, it wins at a high percentage, not due to its optimization, but due to its nuance in early to mid-game activity. It's not going to win turns 1-4 but on very rare occasions, but it can easily combo off without much warning on turns 5-8 pretty consistently, and in ways most players are not expecting. Your opinion that it's not "competitive" as a result of the way it is built is no more accurate or valid than the competitive meter, and by starting your comment with the excerpt below, any valuable additions later tend to fall on deaf ears at that point.

"I want to preface this with that I don't want to claim you, your deckbuilding skills, or this deck is bad. I simply want to make notice of the "competitive" tag you placed on this list. I would like to see it removed due to what I believe is a mistake and might be misleading.

Competitive lists are normally Tier 1 to 2.5 lists that tend to either..."

Well, Kambal isn't considered one of those Tiers as far as commanders go, so I guess maybe it's a mute point? Yet, your profile has a link that states "why any commander can be competitive," which contradicts your initial quote above, so as you felt the need to tell another user earlier, let me refrain your own words...you can't have it both ways. In any case, if you simply stick to suggestions to start, your knowledge of the game and deckbuilding will help a lot of other players. If, on the other hand, you insist on policing users using the site as they see fit based on your opinions, then a lot of your other suggestions will have been wasted, regardless of their value. Take these comments for what you will, and good luck with getting to number 1 on the T/O and helper rankings, looks like you're getting closer by the day.

As previously noted, there’s no recognized difference in price between English and Japanese, and eBay has several listed starting at $151, while TCG mid shows $175. You also have the 2011 judge promo foil of the same art, which hurts the foil value a little.

While I’d agree it will likely be quite a while before another reprint happens and value is likely to hold or increase, unless you find someone specifically looking for the Japanese version, $200 seems unlikely for now. Seems like a pretty safe hold if nothing else.

I’m assuming your name is just a coincidence, so I was kidding about the similarity. Not kidding about my love for Arcum, though. This is my Arcum deck.
