Azdranax Old Magus

Thanks to finding a small box of my original collection in storage several years ago (with cards dating back to Unlimited, all of which I thought I sold in 2000), I got sucked back into collecting and playing, and now have more EDH decks and modern/legacy cards than I know what to do with - my binder is just a small portion of my total collection at this point.

Other games will come and go, but reliving my high school and college days through Magic helps keep me young, and it's a hell of a lot easier on the body than baseball and basketball. If I can help you in any way, or if you are looking for trade pieces, feel free to reach out - I'm always up to something new these days.

BladeMasta220 My foil Cryptics are the full art promo versions, so it would take something really special for me to consider trading them. Unfortunately I dont think the Ugin or anything in the binder currently would fit the bill.

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm trading for a friend and he wants to trade it toward 2x snapcaster mage, but don't want to break up your playset so no worries. Aside from the ugin, is there anything in binder I could trade towards your 3x foil Cryptic Command?

BladeMasta220 I recently broke up my super friends deck, so I don't need any planeswalkers currently, but depending on what you're looking for, I may still be interested. Anything specific to standard or extra modern stuff (beyond my playsets) I have I would definitely consider it.

Hey man, would you be interested in a NM foil Ugin, the Spirit Dragon?

Due to the popularity of Affinity, playing Phyrexian Unlife will allow Affinity to one-shot you even easier with Inkmoth Nexus and Cranial Plating or Arcbound Ravager. It's makes a very tough matchup even worse, thus severely hurting it's use in any main/sideboard slots in Death's Shadow decks.

Fair enough, and I agree, the art is excellent. Maybe a token Izzet brew could really break the combo.

Is the purpose of the noted combo specific to just mono-blue, because 16 mana to activate is a crazy amount - as vishnarg noted, you should have won already. Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Timestream Navigator seems much more efficient at 9 total CMC to activate if casting Kiki, or just 6 if casting the Navigator with Kiki already in play. Considering you need 10 permanents to activate anyway, the combo seems somewhat lackluster either way - certainly not cEDH material.

In order to remain tribal and improve your competitive performance, you'll want to look to add more combo pieces and reduce your average CMC pretty significantly. Your Maybe Board already has a few of the best options identified, in Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Cabal Coffers and Phyrexian Delver. In addition to these, some creatures to improve the deck and add combo options would be Carrion Feeder, Vengeful Dead and Mikaeus, the Unhallowed. Add Phyrexian Altar, and you can create an infinite loop with Gravecrawler + Vengeful Dead or Diregraf Captain. Early game draw is also critical for consistency, so with the inclusion of blue, you'd be better off replacing high CMC (six mana or greater, even Delve spells) options of all types with spells like Preordain, Ponder, Serum Visions, Brainstorm, Mystic Remora and Rhystic Study, as these will be far more valuable and easily played whenever drawn. The Scarab God would also be an excellent fit for the deck, and additional tutors like Beseech the Queen and Demonic Tutor would also be great. Additional cheap self-mill options could also help - Glimpse the Unthinkable in early turns can often give you a massive advantage, and there are other similar options available that are more budget friendly. Obviously a lot of the noted options are not exactly budget friendly, so if that is a concern, focus on the less expensive options (both from an expense and CMC standpoint) first, and then collect the others as you can. Even without Mikaeus in the deck, something like Cauldron of Souls can get you double-ETBs with a sac outlet. With him, the combo potential is amazing. Hopefully this gives you some additional ideas to improve and speed up your deck. Best of luck with your build.

Zedruu is a great chaos deck imo, as it lends to a great pillow fort, enchantment heavy build, which is often difficult for opponents to deal with, plus it durdles less than other chaos options. Color base gives lots of options for fast removal and board wipes, plus artifacts and curses that wont matter which player controls them in order to maximize Zedruus value. Also provides plenty of ways to give your permanents indestructible to take big leads in board state.

It also depends how competitive youre looking to be, as cEDH is almost always going to be improved with the addition of blue. Meren cannot truly compete with Sidisi in the cEDH format thanks to the addition of cards like Flash plus draw, discard and control options. That said, your mana base is also going to increase significantly in cost to build competitive Sultai options.

If your long term goal is competitive, go Sultai. If its more casual or just more pure reanimate flavor youre looking for, or even if budget is more of a concern, then stick with Meren. Both are a lot of fun though.

I dont see too many planeswalkers being all that competitive as commanders, especially in a multiplayer format, so why not allow them? Id imagine Ashiok, Narset and Tamiyo being fairly viable, but they would all still be subpar compared to Teferi based on the ultimate. The Chain Veil would probably skyrocket in value though.

Started my senior year in HS 25 years ago - 1993 experienced the first World Trade Center bombing, the Waco standoff, the first Intel processor and the Buffalo Bills losing their third straight Super Bowl. Most notably, though, the birth of Magic the Gathering.

Dosan the Falling Leaf will drive the blue mages insane, and Melira, Sylvok Outcast with an infect and persist theme is pretty quick and unexpected.
