Many thanks PhyrexianPreator! Your Orzhov list is great. I'm definintely planning to incorporate either Korlash, Heir to Blackblade or Lashwrithe once I work out my early-game curve, as both harken back to the MBC decks to which I'm seeking to pay homage. If only Laquatus's Champion was Modern legal...

Heliod's Intervention seems like it could be really good. If you put more creatures in here Inscription of Abundance would be helpful Kenrith, the Returned King would be a decent mana sink Laquatus's Champion would be really useful. Orzhov Guildmage Primal Command

Almost 20 years ago I read a super long article about Magic in some magazine. It was my first introduction to the game and it focused on the individual colours and their philosophy. It was since then that I fell in love with black. And the card that was there to illustrate black was Laquatus's Champion, which I felt was awesome-looking compared to the cards that represented the other colours (I actually don’t remember any of those other cards, but that’s saying something about them more than it is about me, ha!). And so I consider Laquatus's Champion to be THE card that got me into this game. Funnily though, I only got a copy of it when it was reprinted in M25. Needless to say, I love playing it even though it's not very powerful in today’s Magic.

I have always been in love with Guiltfeeder & Laquatus's Champion.

With the second one you can run False Cure aswell, which is a super fun card that nobody ever sees coming.

I was looking around to build a similar deck with Remedy, and this is just truly wonderful! An idea I was toying with is using Laquatus's Champion, a reletively silly card, to abuse its second effect. The goal would be to use something like Cloudshift to bounce him, and then do a silly amount of damage to your opponent as such. But wonderful deck!

Laquatus's Champion doesn't work the way you describe because swapping it in with Mary doesn't trigger ETB effects. Cool deck! I'm working on a similar one.

Agent_Fire - Tree of Redemption at uncommon would ruin the limited format.

I'd like to pose this question again: Would you rather have value cards at mythic or rare?

The obvious answer is rare. You are more likely to open them and with more in circulation, the cost will go down. I am all for a card like Tree of Redemption or Akroma, Angel of Fury being printed at mythic rarity. I personally think Wizards is absolutely nailing this set with their rarity distribution. Obviously some choices are...odd (i.e. the two aforementioned cards), but the set so far looks fantastic.

Some of the new spoiled cards I am excited about (since last time I checked):

Elvish Piper, Hell's Caretaker with a new boarder, Courser of Kruphix (called it!), Laquatus's Champion, and Animar, Soul of Elements.

I'd be quite happy with a Doubling Season reprint for the last green rare, but there doesn't really seem to be a +1/+1 counter or token archetype to the set so I doubt it. I am still holding out for Deranged Hermit though :)
