I love Jaya Ballard, but she wouldn't exactly fit here. I'd put her in a true spellslinging list. Neheb, the Eternal could use her.

I'm quite new to using The Locust God, and I'm surprised by the many ways it can win just on token swarming alone.

Have you given some thought (at least in the budget build) to Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive? Unless you have any anthems that boost toughness out, she renders all the locusts unblockable, so even other fliers can't chump them. Bonus points if Shared Animosity is on board as well. That said, she can be win-more if you already got a whole swarm out there, but in case you're up against the likes of Talrand, Sky Summoner, she could be useful.

nzlkingprawn: Ah. I misread the comment. My apologies.

No, it would not trigger Hallar. However, it still provides some utility in that it can be whatever you want it to be (a counterspell or another ramp spell), so it makes up for not being able to trigger her.

Here's how it would work:

  1. Play any kicker spell, say Primal Growth, and sac a token for the kicker cost. It and a Hallar (and she has 0 counters, say) trigger goes on the stack.

  2. With Strionic Resonator out, you pay it, targeting Hallar. Hallar would deal 1 damage after getting its counter.

  3. Then, the original Hallar trigger resolves, and it gets another counter, dealing 2 this time for a total of 3 (from both triggers).

I've made expensive decks in the past, but this takes the cake and the first to come to mind.

Some time ago, I built decks using all 15 of the FTV: Legends as decks. This was the deck for Visara the Dreadful, and at the time I had a certain trio of Black enchantments. I went all-out on the price in a bid to make it the most expensive deck I ever built. I can no longer build it, since I sold the enchantments, but I didn't edit the deck to reflect that.

Now we got official confirmation about Niambi.

Anyway, Urza would be rolling in his grave if he heard all the jabs at him.

Also, how on earth did Jhoira get Teferi's planeswalker spark? It's a nice cliffhanger, but it doesn't make sense. I also suspect Karn will show up next week (if not, the week after).

dreas94: They're more for utility rather than the theme. I've been cutting back on them, but I need a few in there. Reiterate, Fork, and Dualcaster Mage would stay. But I can cut one of the others for the Imperial Recruiter that's sitting in the Maybeboard.

pskinn01: Except I speculate the final fight is on Ravnica. Everything's pointing to it, and In Bolas's Clutches, with Liliana being one of the main 'walkers, means that Bolas will meet his end soon.

Also, we'll probably see Nissa rejoin the Watch before we return to Zendikar. But as the focus of the lore then? Sure.

April 15, 2018 10:54 a.m.

Actually, it was Ugin who sent Jace to Ixalan. It was a sneaky fail-safe spell placed on Jace's memory of him should Ugin's existence be discovered. It's as though he foresaw Bolas trying to crush Jace's mind. So it was confirmed that Bolas had no idea that Jace pulled the puppet strings in Ixalan, so to speak.

Anyway, as for the real topic: It's too soon. Not only were the reasons outlined, but we had BFZ back in 2015/2016. Theros would be more likely at this point. Give it a few years, then we just may see Zendikar again.

legendofa: That is a really good question. Here's my thoughts on Nissa atm:

She's probably going to return to Amonkhet at some point to help the plane heal (We know Chandra will return during Dominaria's story arc). The question is when will she return. I don't believe WOTC would write Nissa entirely out of the Watch, so I have two theories on her return:

  1. She returns during Dominaria's arc. It'll mean that Jace and Chandra will also show up, and unite to take down the Cabal.

  2. She returns to the Watch later on. This may give WOTC a fall set so the Ravnica invasion will begin next year.

Point is: Nissa will return to the group before Bolas invades Ravnica.

enpc: This was thought exactly. There weren't enough cards to benefit from the three. I'll fix the deck now. Thanks.

Deck for reference.

I've recently added Cloudstone Curio, Panharmonicon, and Helm of the Host into the deck, and I'm beginning to feel that they're clunky. But my main concern is that the Curio and the Panharmonicon only work with a dozen cards in the deck.

In that case, are they worth keeping in there, for the sake of that dozen? Also, considering 9 mana and some turns are needed for Helm to do its thing, would Hallar not be the best choice for the card? Thanks in advance.

dreas94: I've added it in there. Thanks.

Scrubadubdub: It's a great suggestion for Hallar, but I'm not fond of infect, so I chose to avoid it. However, I recommend it for those who want to use the mechanic when building Hallar.

April 13, 2018 2:06 p.m.

dreas94: If you meant Hallar's ability, it's a cast trigger, not an ETB/CIP trigger. There would be much fewer instants and sorceries otherwise. Nice tech on the Curio. I'll find a way to add it.

April 13, 2018 7:43 a.m.

Agreed. I'd venture to say that Dominaria is the best set released since...I'd say either Khans or Origins (Of all time, definitely closer to Khans).

I love the soldier and the stained-glass knight tokens for the set. it made me wish I was running a tokens deck because those are amazing. The throwbacks are really cool too.

I even may have found the perfect EDH general in Hallar, the FIrefletcher. Such a unique design yet perfectly functional in EDH. The new legendary borders are awesome as well.

My only gripe is the Cabal's plan to rewrite history. As an ex-historian, this really ruffles my feathers.

Regarding Gideon's Reproach...

April 12, 2018 12:55 p.m.

dreas94: I haven't considered Panharmonicon. It doesn't work with Hallar unfortunately, but there are about a dozen cards that work with it. I'd be concerned about whether it's worth adding for the sake of a dozen. But I'll test it regardless. Thanks for the suggestion.
