I've been where you are with regards to politics. My story is simple: I started out playing decks that my inner Johnny adored, and this got me a reputation for the broken. At this point, I hated how my opponents could more easily win because they could accentuate my board state and make me inevitably get all or most of the aggro. I even felt like politics should be banned! How could it be allowed that I lose only because of words?! Then, while listening to The Command Zone (I prefer listening to podcasts over music while commuting), they had an episode called Poli-Tips and Tricks where they outlined both a few general methods for using politics to your advantage and a few specific examples as well. With just a little bit of research, I quickly escalated from one of the worst political players to one of the best in my playgroups (yes, multiple playgroups).
Even with a quiet voice or introverted personality, you can still become a great user of political power. I'll give you one example: casually get into a conversation about someone else's deck, and everyone loves to talk about how great their own deck is. How many times have you heard an opponent talk about how their deck almost lost but came back in a crazy win? People love to brag on their own decks! This is very easy to do, and the bragger usually becomes scarier in the eyes of opponents when all boardstates are similar.
If you'd like, enable chat and we can talk more about political theory!

Profet93: EDHrec is a goodplace to start, or you can take a look at my build, Cojutron. I never liked Voltron or counterspells, but this is one of the very few decks using either tactic (or both) that I can get behind; it's weird of me.

I'll be taking Dragonlord Ojutai to a league soon, but the whole counterspell thing is what I'm wary of. Using them is only half the battle (because I tend to have poor judgment at times when using them), but I also find counterspells to be a bit unfun. If a deck is full of them, then that's a problem. A few? (mine runs ~8) No problem.

Yeah. Screw Valentine's Day. It's Chocolate Day. Too bad those Creme Eggs aren't in stock that day, or I might buy out the entire store. Maybe.

Man, that was such a Tainted Strike.

So, wait, there's an insurance company named MagicalHacker? Do they offer Magic Card insurance?
Anyway, let's not get riled up and go further off-topic. Between the new Archenemy stuff, and all the Bolas-themed stuff coming out, it almost makes me want to build Nicol Bolas with those Amonkhet full-arts. That would be a sight to see.

I can see an argument for Gisela, but she also paints a target on you, and she's expensive to cast.

The main card I want is Cavern of Souls. Other than that, meh. I never cared that much.

This certainly looks interesting. I may try it out, and if I like it, I'll build it IRL with a few tweaks.
But why Cataclysm and Decree of Annihilation? I might be biased because I hate MLD, but wouldn't they be counter-intuitive in some way (like getting rid of your enchantments so there's less chaos)? And destroying lands means no one can have fun. Just my thoughts.

I wholeheartedly agree with the flaws of a league. I've played in both social games and league games, and they are worlds different. I had more fun in the social ones, and lot of people may share the same sentiment.
Personally, I would do away with leagues entirely, and just focus on what the format was supposed to be about. Alas, social playgroups are a delicacy these days (they're extinct in my area), and I find that depressing.

Finished up a short story that included romance as a side plot. Does that count? I did nothing else that day, nor was I interested in Valentine's Day. That and my current relationship is a complicated matter anyway, us being distant, busy and all.

I used to play Oviya, and I can tell you that the best way to play the deck is a combination of artifacts and tokens. Go onto EDHrec.com, and look up her deck, and you'll see what I mean. It was a blast to play. Yeah, there are some expensive cards there, but don't worry about those for now. Focus on what you can afford.

So there won't be 4 full-art basics like in the Zendikar blocks?

Ok, so you're running a Fight Club deck and you're not runnning Domri Rade? How criminal! He's a fight card, and can potentially net you card (with 30 creatures, it's not difficult to miss).
