- COMBO!
That's right you read the title correctly. You don't have to attack a single time, if you don't want to despite being in one of the most aggressive colour combinations magic has to offer.
This is an updated copy of the original version A Boros deck that doesn't attack? (RW Combo)
The newest Commander Legends spoilers have shown a long awaited combo piece: Glowing Solsteel!
1R - Equipment
Equipped creature gets +1/+0 for each opponent you have.
Whenever equipped creature is dealt damage, it deals that much damage to any target.
Equip 4
In most games I don't attack a single time, unless some Planeswalker needs to be dealt with. This has been a fantastic strategy so far, because most of the times attacking causes retaliation. Aggro is usually what RW does best, but in a multiplayer game it can get quite challenging for Boros to take on every one once they run out of steam. So just put Tajic, Blade of the Legion to the front and lean back. No reason to attack into an indestructible blocker unless you have evasion or trample.
That's how this deck works! Being a non-threat or hard to damage at first until you can combo!
The Wincons
=> Infinite Damage
Guilty Conscience can win with Stuffy Doll, Brash Taunter, the newly found Glowing Solsteel on Tajic or Boros Reckoner/Spitemare/Mogg Maniac + Darksteel Plate. Flickerform allows for Stuffy Doll to get a new friend, once the old one kicks the bucket ;) So every turn the biggest threat dies :D
Tajic or any indestructible creature with Pariah + Arcbond - once you get any kind of damage started it loops infinite, killing everyone and everything on the board.
The best part about Arcbond is that you can tutor it with Sunforger and get other combo pieces like Gideon's Sacrifice or Martyrdom to complete the loop.
If you have a Pariah-Effect out, you can go all in with Volcano Hellion on your damage redirectors and kill someone.
Damage enablers are cardCity of Brass:, Battlefield Forge, Ancient Tomb, Volcanic Fallout, Blasphemous Act, Chain Reaction, Star of Extinction and my favorite one with Tajic on board: Pyrohemia
=> Infinite Life
What also combos is
Boros Reckoner/
Spitemare/Glowing Solsteel +
Darksteel Plate +
Basilisk Collar. The first damage they receive will get you infinite life if you shot the triggered damage onto itself.
Play Stonehewer Giant and once Volcano Hellion ETBs, you call an insanely high number. The target for the Hellion doesn't matter. Might as well kill something. The hellion trigger on the stack you activate the Giant and tutor for Basilisk Collar giving it lifelink. This results in you gaining life equal to the chosen number and the damage dealt to you is prevented, because it is balanced to 0 due to the lifelink. Works since lifelink is a static ability and not a triggered one.
These combos are vulnerable, which makes them fair in my eyes. Infinite turn combos that take some time to set up while everyone else just sits there and stares at the ceiling isn't fun for anyone. I've had a blast playing this and I love seeing the surprise on players faces when they first encounter my combos.
If you know any cards I should run to improve this deck I would like to hear your ideas. :) I've taken a break from MTG for a while so some cards might have slipped past me.
Red damage doubling effects can increase the output of your redirectiors, but also paint a big target on your head. So the risk outweighs the reward.
Also a shout out to my friend and fellow EDH player Caeruleus, who helped me a lot with this deck!
Note: This deck's combo engine can function well without expensive cards to help set it up. But I love it so I'm investing in it :D
(The maybe board are cards I've rotated out for new cards, but just want to keep them in mind for now)
