Statement of Design Philosophy

Deck design is an opportunity to learn about new cards and critically assess interactions. It is an opportunity to evaluate cards you might never have seen or considered. It is about establishing the set of cards you will most enjoy playing. This is a process which is necessarily prejudiced every time you look at a list similar to the one you are thinking of building. To that end, I encourage you to avoid looking at lists I've created if you are currently drafting lists for a Commander I've built for.

Further, I am strongly of the belief that using sites like EDH Rec destroy the integrity of the deck building process. They result in a less diverse deck construction and play experience. In a broader sense, looking at statistically commonly played cards rather than critically assessing all available options leads to a paucity of knowledge of cards.

Solitary Confinement is the catch-all pillowfort combo card with Queen Marchesa, because you can't lose the Monarch whilst its around, and drawing on your end step lets you work around the drawback.

In addition, you do not need to run any other Monarchy cards because you should be able to consistently get the Monarchy back / recast your commander.

Further, Viridian Longbow allows you to shoot down any creature since your Commander and her tokens all have deathtouch.

Granted that deck curves at 3-4, and your commander is 4 to cast, you should probably play 2 cost mana rocks rather than 3 costs ones. So, that's Orzhov Signet, Boros Signet, Rakdos Signet, Talisman of Indulgence

I understand that you wanted to maintain the "Kamigawa" feel, but I think that Hold the Line and Ethereal Haze are probably not particularly strong in here; same with Terashi's Grasp. Perhaps those cards can be substituted for some removal spells: Swords to Plowshares, Path to Exile and for enchantment and artifact removal, cards like Return to Dust, Aura of Silence, or Abolish so on come to mind. Potentially, you can run Door of Destinies to add to the tribal scaling effects. You should probably run Thalia's Lancers as a tutor for some of your fun legendary dudes, perhaps Recruiter of the Guard as a tutor as well. Also not sure why, Alesha is necessarily better in here Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder or Tajic, Blade of the Legion or Basandra, Battle Seraph. Though Alesha's reanimation might be helpful to keep pressure up.

Hi NV_1980,

In respect of (1) Maybe don't add those cards, but I think you can still do better then the Leige.

In respect of (2) Glad to hear it.

In respect of Diligent Farmhand. Consider it as a card in your opening hand. Comes down turn 1, sac's turn 2, and ramps you to 4 for turn 3. The Muscle Burst reference is irrelevant to the card in this context. It comes back off meren and can be repeated sac'd for lands. Compare to the Carytid, which also ramps to turn 3 meren. Except that it doesn't serve another purpose later, other than being a random blocker.

If you need lantern of insight / Field of Dreams, perhaps Trinket Mage or Dizzy Spell might be good as tutors. Maybe instead of Mindlock Orb, you should run Psychic Surgery and Grafdigger's Cage which lock out tutors in a much cleaner way.

Hi :)

I appreciate this deck: the list looks pretty enjoyable. I just have a few of cards I think should be cut in favour of more interesting cards. If you want to keep the effect I've made some suggestions for alternatives in the slots; but really you could take those slots and put anything in there.

Happy Brewing & dream big! :)

Ivy Lane Denizen does some truly degenerate things with Hapatra. It triggers off the snakes coming into play, meaning you can either creature a huge threat, or offset several of the -1/-1 counters. If you can get any of your entry leaves the battlefield loops going it just gives you another win con.
