River Sneak Discussion

Saint1129 on Death by treasure!

Doomed Dissenter and River Sneak really don't contribute to the theme of your deck at all- ESPECIALLY River Sneak.

I would suggest replacing them with artifact creatures like Scrapheap Scrounger (which can come back from the graveyard after being sacrificed or killed off) or with treasure generators like Prying Blade, Revel in Riches (which provides an alternate win condition), Deadeye Plunderers (which grows while you get more artifacts), or Pitiless Plunderer,

Take note, a lot of the cards I suggested have a really high mana cost, so you'll have to pick which ones you like better so that your mana-curve doesn't get too top-heavy.

Risque on Merfolk "budget"

I'd drop lord of Atlantis, Master of Waves and Merrow Reejerey. You don't need THAT much constant boost, especially since they're a bit on the pricey side and you already have Pearl and Mistbinder, which work better. Bump Deeproot Elite up to 3. Bump Kunema's speaker up to 4, then my suggestions would be and this is just from MY personal experience, so take what I say with a grain of salt. Merfolk Branchwalker, Chart a Course , River Sneak and Deeproot Waters . They're inexpensive and lend themselves to the deck quite nicely. Also, it seems you want to go with the protecting your Pearl and allowing your combo to be him and Spreading Seas to sneak under your opp's stuff and dmg them. So work on 'that' angle.

Your mana is a little slow.

Not sure if it's a budget thing but Botanical Sanctum is much better than Woodland Stream.

I wouldn't mind seeing two more lands, as you are often mana screwed on Turn 4, when you want to start casting your bigger threats.

The biggest challenges for this deck are against ones that can get big Creatures on to the field from Turn 3 and onwards, like Stompy Whompy Dinos and Control decks, like Flame-Chained.

Since those decks outpace yours by targetting your Creatures, and board wiping, some Blossoming Defense and Heroic Intervention in the Sideboard would be more useful than extra copies of your Creatures.

I would try this:

OUT

1x Herald of Secret Streams
1x Jade Bearer
1x Jungleborn Pioneer
1x Kumena's Speaker
1x Merfolk Mistbinder
1x Mist-Cloaked Herald
1x River Sneak

IN

3x Blossoming Defense
4x Heroic Intervention

You can play around with this numbers, but I would not go lower than three copies of each.

Hope that helps.

Chasedrk1 on What library? (Mill works in standard)

As its your only merfolk, Mist-Cloaked Herald is a better unblockable than River Sneak

Have you ever thought about running a couple River Sneak? With the low CMC of your deck, you can put out a lot of creatures in a single turn, creating a massive unblockable threat. I really like the card in standard Merfolk and I think it could help your deck a bit. Still love this though so you got my upvote!

P.S. The only reason I found this was because you added my cycle deck to your folder, so thanks for that

Thank you so much for the suggestions. I will definitely play with that, to see what works. I wonder if, with all islandwalk removed, I should just drop Spreading Seas as well. That said, I kinda like the land destruction and card draw component that the enchantment provides. Especially since I am not running stuff like Ponder or Preordain.

As a side-note, I somehow missed that River Sneak was an uncommon. That opened up 4 more slots to figure out. Back to the drawing board!

Even worse - Drop the Kefnet cards for 2 each of Mist-Cloaked Herald and Curious Obsession , although I played this with 4 each of Mist-Cloaked Herald, Slither Blade, River Sneak, Sixth Sense and Curious Obsession with a bunch of Fog and Disrupt cards
