joaoguaxinim I see your point with Jade Guardian. Thanks for the advice. As far as Deeproot Champion goes it works really well with your deck because you have a good amount of non creature spells. Looking at our decks they have different purposes. Your deck is about getting a few really big creatures out, then dropping Herald of Secret Streams. My deck is more about getting lots of decently sized creatures out, then using Herald of Secret Streams to close out the game. River Sneak synergizes better with my deck because of my focus on creatures. Deeproot Waters is a great combo card to have with sneak because the merfolk tokens count towards it's text. I don't run four mimics mainly due to pricing, and Verdurous Gearhulk makes up for that later. Also my LGS meta is rampant with Carnage Tyrant so having a gearhulk and putting all the counters on it gives me an answer to tyrnants.

Let's see, I'm not sure what cards you should cut, but I do know some good cards you could use. I can see this deck have 3 different outcomes. An unblockable deck with Slither Blade, River Sneak, and Storm Sculptor. The typical Merfolk deck with Deeproot Champion, Deeproot Waters, and Kopala, Warden of Waves. Or something else. Opt, Negate, Chart a Course, and Glimmer of Genius are some blue staples. Not sure for green.

Have you considered Siren Stormtamer instead of maybe Daring Saboteur? 'Cause it's always nice to have a turn one play, and it has flying, which is unblockable 3/4 of the time, plus it gives your creatures some added protection that can be really good if they want to Fatal Push your 4/4 River Sneak or a Metallic Mimic, or just whatever since you only have the one copy of Kopala, Warden of Waves and the 3 Blossoming Defenses for protection. It's a pretty solid creature all around in my opinion. It's also pretty nifty if you play against a lot of Glorybringers, because it has flying to block it if need be and you can also counter its ability if they exert it so it stays tapped and you save one of your other guys from a fiery death.

Hey, consider River Sneak? The only reason I suggest it is because of Deeproot Waters. The interaction with Waters is good. You could cut 2x Apprentice and 2x Weaver for 4x Sneak.

I don't think you need Illumination consider cutting it for a fourth Defense, Opt and Boon? These three cards are doing a lot more here than Illumination is since it will most of the time only be cycled for one mana which if you're doing that just play more Opt. My last suggestion is 4x Botanical Sanctum in place of 2x Island and Forest.

Okay I see what youre saying... I can see that working nicely. Now just what to take out for it? River Sneak? Because for 2cmc it makes it conveniant to still get damage in without being blocked. Still hit for 2 (unless removal) turn three. But ill play with the idea

Sorry for the late reply! Didn't see the comment, evidently.

Let's start off with your Merfolk!

1.) I would remove Jungle Delver. It's just not good enough in my opinion to main deck. I see your strategy is about going wide and that's good because that's the only way Merfolk can win in this Standard. I would recommend changing it with Chart A Course in all honesty to get you some extra card draw, which your deck is lacking aside from the Branchwalkers.

2.) See what you can do about adding more hexproof stuff. Dive Down and Blossoming Defense are good, Spell Pierce and Negate are good out of the sideboard. You need to able to protect your creatures as they are vital to you, especially River Sneak as that baby gets pretty big when you have Deeproot Waters out. Protect your fish!

Otherwise, it looks great! You could branch your sideboard out a bit more too, adding things like Appetite for the Unnatural, Dissenter's Deliverance, Crook of Condemnation, Perilous Voyage, River's Rebuke, Spell Pierce, Negate, and Heroic Intervention. I usually put most of my protection in the sideboard in case I run against a control deck.
