This is the preconstructed dragon deck with The Ur-Dragon, modified to run Scion of the Ur-Dragon as commander instead. It sacrifices the Ur-Dragon's eminence ability for versatility and graveyard shenanigans.

The majority of these changes came about through redundancy, having only situational usefulness, and a desire to add more support, protection, and graveyard recursion. I'd been wanting to make a good dragon deck before the Commander set came out, so I already had a handful of these cards on hand to work with

Changes from the Preconstructed deck and Why

Added:

Creatures

Dragonlord Atarka - the 5 damage is extremely useful, and at worst it's an 8/8 body that Scion of the Ur-Dragon can turn itself into at a moment's notice.

Dragonlord Dromoka - Uncounterable, nice stats, "my turn is my turn", it's a good target for Scion and good protection in any situation.

Krosan Drover - Without The Ur-Dragon in the command zone, I added another cost reducer.

Thunderbreak Regent - Punish people for targeting you automatically

Nicol Bolas - Great target for Scion of the Ur-Dragon to pick, very bad to actually have to play. (BTW if you don't have Ugly Bolas what's the point)

Sorceries

Explore - a little extra land, hoping to make up for the loss of The Ur-Dragon's cost reduction.

Fearsome Awakening - Graveyard to the battlefield with a bonus for dragons? Yes, please!

Unburial Rites - Graveyard to battlefield with flashback.

Treasured Find - very powerful graveyard recursion for very cheap

The precon deck has ZERO INSTANTS.

Lightning Bolt - This is just a good 3 damage to a creature or planeswalker.

Ancient Grudge - Two artifacts gone for 3 mana

Foul Renewal - Graveyard recursion, and since you are almost certainly going for a dragon, you'll probably be killing something by giving it -6/-6 or more until end of turn.

Sultai Charm - all 3 abilities are super useful.

Tainted Strike - Just in case 10 damage to the face via dragon wasn't already scary enough..?

Grim Return - While you'll probably go after your own dragons with this, you can also steal your opponent's cards!

Land

Unclaimed Territory - good in any tribal deck

Hall of the Bandit Lord - HASTY DRAGONS

Removed:

Taigam, Ojutai Master - While useful, he's not as valuable in this deck as he would be in a spell-slinging archetype.

Tyrant's Familiar - I don't generally like "win more" cards to begin with, and in a bad situation he's a 5/5 for 7 mana...

Broodmate Dragon - While dropping a dragon token is very nice, it's not a good target for Scion

Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius - Niv-Mizzet doesn't work to bolster other dragons, and card draw isn't a huge problem in this deck imo.

Orator of Ojutai - just a so-so card

Steel Hellkite - my artifact deck wanted it more

Wayfarer's Bauble and Mirror of the Forebears are on the maybe list

Curse of Opulence,Curse of Verbosity, Curse of Bounty - I didn't feel like they did enough to warrant a place in this deck. Donated to my brother's [awful curse deck.](https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/i-curse-you-and-you-and-you/)

Frontier Siege - I felt it wasn't getting much value

Fractured Identity - only occasionally useful for me

Rain of Thorns and Dreamstone Hedron - too expensive

Suggestions

Updates Add

changed commanders. The Ur-Dragon is great, but I felt that Scion had more potential as a commander. Added a bunch of graveyard recursion and better targets for Scion's ability.
