Mirror of the Forebears

Artifact

As Mirror of the Forebears enters the battlefield, choose a creature type.

1: Until end of turn, Mirror of the Forebears becomes a copy of target creature you control of the chosen type, except it's an artifact in addition to its other types.

Thanks d00d!

Hall of the Bandit Lord Urborg fixes this. The infect/poison strategy NEEDS haste. On that thought: Lightning Greaves.

Blinkmoth Nexus this is very narrow but it can speed up the Inkmoth win. It can carry auras/equipment.

Bojuka Bog free removal.

Locust Miser neat tax + tribal.

Mirror of the Forebears/Mirage Mirror solid clones.

Imp's Mischief staple in mono black.

Koskun Falls color pie bending blast from the past.

Cards that reference their own name in rules text always only ever really mean “this card”, referring to itself.

So, for instance, the rules text on Faerie Artisans really reads: ”Whenever a nontoken creature enters the battlefield under an opponent's control, create a token that's a copy of that creature except it's an artifact in addition to its other types. Then exile all other tokens created with this card.”.

What this means from your questions:

  • you can’t flicker/bounce tokens and have them come back. This is always the case for all tokens, and has nothing to do with these interactions.

  • if you flicker/bounce Faerie Artisans, any existing tokens its created will be immune to being removed from any future effects by the bounced card.

  • if Mirror of the Forebears copies Faerie Artisans to make tokens, any previous tokens it made will be removed (regardless of what turn they were made).

  • same goes for Volrath, the Shapestealer, if it creates a token as Faerie Artisans, any previous tokens it’s made will be removed, regardless of what turn they were made, or what creature/effect Volrath was copying to make them

Morophon, the Boundless seems like a great card. And Mirror of the Forebears. Any of the kindred cycle

Nice - some good ideas in here. I will consider Domri Rade, Herald's Horn and Mirror of the Forebears for my ramos deck. Could be some great effects in there!

One thing I recently did, too, was take out Crucible of Fire. It seems like the perfect card for the deck, but in hindsight all the dragons are big and badass so why do they need another +3/+3 when I could make room for something else I needed more. Just a thought.

Fun deck! Other good ramp you might want to include in this deck could be Burgeoning, Carpet of Flowers, or Birds of Paradise. Great value cards to add, in my opinion, are Esper Sentinel and Mystic Remora. These would all help you lower the curve. I would consider cutting a few less-valuable dragons, the more costly enchantments, or perhaps Mirror of the Forebears since so many of your creatures are legendary.

I've found the strongest allies can be is if you can repeat their ETB effects. Blink and cloning are the best ways to go about that. Graveyard retrieval is another option as well.

I've got tons of effects to make my allies recur over and over in my allies version. It's way more expensive (I originally built it as budget and had cracked most of the cards from packs at the time) but there are still some great budget finds in there:

Bounce For Me

My big suggestions for at least some protection/recursion from removal and some tricks (you don't have to go with the whole recurring flicker gimmick to get use out of some strategically done recursion... such as snagging more tutors out of Tazri) would be Eerie Interlude , Momentary Blink , Planar Guide , Rescue from the Underworld , March from the Tomb could replace your All Suns' Dawn since it puts them right back on the field. If you don't like the blinking idea Tazri, Beacon of Unity from your maybeboard can help repetitively dig for allies better than a one time tutor ETB from General Tazri will.

Also not budget, and it will make you do a lot of math since all the copies ETB and see each other at the same time, but Rite of Replication is one of the strongest cards allies decks can use, as well as Panharmonicon .

Other budget options would be Mirror of the Forebears from your sideboard since it can keep +1/+1 counters on it, and Distant Melody for big card draw.

Hey, well done for your first deck from scratch.

Some cards within the current budget to consider adding:

Could add all these cards for about $26.

Cards to consider cutting:

Worldgorger Dragon is a tricky combo to assemble because Worldgorger needs to be in your graveyard to reanimate it with Animate Dead. You don't want to ever cast it from hand or cheat it onto the battlefield with Kaalia. Sneak Attack cheating it on the battlefield is fine because then it will end up in your graveyard and you get your permanents back. You want to get Worldgorger into your graveyard and the best budget card that can do that is Buried Alive.

Currently here Angel of Despair is the easy win condition with the Worldgorger combo by destroying all your opponents permanents. But what happens if Despair is disrupted or exiled? Kaalia, Zenith Seeker can be a more complex enabler with the combo needing haste for all the creatures you put into your hand and get onto the battlefield. Bogardan Hellkite can be another easy, even truer, win condition with the combo because it does damage to each player each time it ETB which will be infinite damage with the combo.

Good luck with your deck.

711.8a If a player is instructed to put a card that isn’t a double-faced card onto the battlefield transformed, that card stays in its current zone.

Only game objects represented by double-faced cards can be transformed or enter the battlefield transformed. Since Mirror of the Forebears is not, the triggered ability will fail to return it to the battlefield transformed, and it will remain in the graveyard.
