A while ago, I found out that I am having a lot more fun playing magic when I play a deck that has some sort of flavour or lore theme. When I came across Marchesa, the first thing I did was read the conspiracy lore. I liked her even more after that. I wanted to make a deck with her that kept that flavour alive. In this deck I tried to make a deck that is more reactive and political than what I usually built.

The plan here is to built yourself into a pillow fort, make attacking other people interesting and deter people from attacking you. Then, when the time is ripe, punish your opponents for their strength and succes. Marchesa works pretty well as a dettering force, deathtouch is pretty good for breaking voltron commanders. I also run some general pillows like ghostly prison and some more interesting pillows like pariah. On the punishing. Cards like Acidic Soil and Price or Progress punish opponents for ramping. While these cards also hit you, the plan is to have more life than the rest of the game in order to survive these effects. Backlash and Delirium hit when the opponent is big, Batwing Brume and Rakdos Charm hit wide. Animate dead, word of seizing and possibly mirage mirror copy/steal big hitters.

The rest of the deck is support, removal and some political tools (like axis of morality). I also put blind obedience Kambal, Consul of Allocation in, partly to soften up opponents, partly becaus I love the flavour of it.

I had a very hard time deciding if I was going for a (life)drain or a more reactive deck. This is the more reactive/political try of the spectrum. I got most ideas:

I tried to take the basic idea from this deck and make it more budget-friendly and more flavourfull. It was a hard time balancing between flavour and effect, I would have loved to put in cards like Capital Punishment, bite of the black rose and coucils judgement but I couldn't justify it.
