Promise of Loyalty

Sorcery

Each player puts a vow counter on a creature and sacrifices the rest. Each of those creatures can't attack you or planeswalkers you control for as long as it has a vow counter on it.

Great theme song! I like the style of what you've built here and would play it as-is right now!

Some notes:
- Breena isn't card draw. It's a good card though. Also your monarch cards count as card draw. ;)
- Faithless Looting would be better if you were running Reanimate or recursion spells. Night's Whisper might be better.
- Mythos of Snapdax is OK but probably hits your own permanents harder than you'd like. Consider Blasphemous Act, Vanquish the Horde, Wrath of God or my latest personal favorite Promise of Loyalty there. Those still hit your creatures too but on an empty board monarch shines.
- Open the Armory is good but Fighter Class was built for Sunforger.
- Everyone has their own preference for win conditions in control decks. Debt to the Deathless, Exsanguinate, Torment of Hailfire, Master of Cruelties, Approach of the Second Sun, and Revel in Riches are all popular. One I found recently that might be interesting is Near-Death Experience. It needs support cards to make it work but they are spicy like Stunning Reversal and Plunge into Darkness. It also pairs with Master of Cruelties and life swap spells. This list is a good example for more ideas is you like that path.

Here is my Queen Marchesa deck with its own theme song (less original than yours). You might like it.

Have fun ruling the battlefield!

KBK7101 on Would a "group hug" Marisi …

So, I've had a Marisi, Breaker of the Coil deck for about as long as I've been playing Commander/EDH (it's not a public deck because it's mainly an EDHREC cat tribal kind of thing). I've recently been wanting to redo it so it's less of an EDHREC copy/paste and I had a thought about running some group hug cards in it. Basically, the idea is that we want all out war between our opponents, but we want them to enjoying it at the same time. It's very much a "Fighting you now would be pointless. I want to fight you at your strongest." kind of trope that you see in anime and stuff like that.

Howling Mine, Heartbeat of Spring, Mana Flare, Evolutionary Escalation, maybe Primal Vigor and stuff like that alongside the token granting cards such as Hunted Dragon, Varchild, Betrayer of Kjeldor, Genesis Chamber etc. Some political cards would also be included. Maybe something like Promise of Loyalty, Secret Rendevous, etc.

At the height of the game, everyone would be at their very best, their gameplans running at (mostly) full speed with lots of cards in hand and lots of big creatures to swing at each other with like the big final battle at the end of a movie/show.

Would a deck like this have any potential? Or do the two styles clash too much?

Yeah you got the right idea but I think I'd rather try to make room for Promise of Loyalty as yet another wipe; while not as reliable or cheap, it will probably remove someone's problematic blockers while neutralizing survivors as attackers, esp. rival voltron commanders

The Ways To Victory

  • ULTRON: Get enough buffs on a single creature, attack with it and kill people one by one. One Kaldra Compleat on Galea may be enough, as well as one Scytheclaw or Nettlecyst . Having Vigilance, Galea will also serve as a blocker. Use Unquestioned Authority or Thassa, God of the Sea to pass unblocked, though you can also use flyers. Personally I don't like this way much, as it "lacks of style", and killing opponents one by one may be too slow. But it could be more stylish if you steal the opponent's creature (there are 3 Auras for that) and kill everybody with it!
  • KILL AND STEAL: Play Promise of Loyalty , then just steal the most powerful creature. Alternatively, you may protect Galea with Darksteel Plate and convince another player to play a board wipe, keeping your stealing/disrupting Auras in your hand.
  • TRIDENT PUNCH: Play Surestrike Trident on something very very big, but without evasion, and kill players without attacking them. This works even with Glacial Chasm in play! If you have enough mana, you can even combo with Umbral Mantle , hitting several times per turn.
  • DESTROY THE WORLD: Get Worldslayer with Kaldra Compleat or Darksteel Plate . Hit somebody, destroy all permanents except for your world slayer. Argentum Armor is a light version of this strategy.
