Frostwalk Bastion

Snow Land

: Gain .

: Until end of turn, Frostwalk Bastion becomes a 2/3 Construct artifact creature. It's still a land. ( can be paid with one mana from a snow permanent.)

Whenever Frostwalk Bastion deals combat damage to a creature, tap that creature and it doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step.

Frostwalk Bastion Discussion

lagotripha on Naya Zoo/Christmas Snow

I'm not sure about glacial/scrying sheets- Into the north is slow, scrying sheets takes you off of desperately needed coloured mana and glacial refills your hand, but can't pick up gas (most creatures non-snow), so Winding Way or Once Upon a Time might be stronger. They are great cards if you want to be midrange, but this is a zoo list.

Since your creatures mostly care about forests (sorry wild nacatyl), you might look at increasing the forest count and running more artifact fixing ( Springleaf Drum , Chromatic Sphere , Navigator's Compass , Paradise Mantle ), which would also let you pick up Shrapnel Blast to finish games. While I'm mentioning burn options, I have seen Tribal Flames in non budget versions of these lists- representing ten points of burn from flames/blast will win games.

There is also the option of trying to make your creatures mostly playable with green mana (like Sunblade Elf , Lupine Prototype or Soultether Golem ), then cast Lush Growth / Nylea's Presence or get a singleton Sacred Foundry off Flower / Flourish . This is a bit more fragile.

If you want to go harder into snow-matters, Boreal Druid and Coldsteel Heart offer ramp, while Frostwalk Bastion is a decent manland, but that will look more like a midrange value list (eventually becoming another Ice-Fang Coatl list, and less like zoo, and may call for dropping to two colours on a budget.

If you do want to move up in CMC, Knight of New Alara offers multicolour-matters synergy, while the Naya Hushblade cycle isn't awful.

I recommend having a 3:1 spit of Dead of Winter and Bontu's Last Reckoning , or at least a 2:2 split. Dead of Winter scales to kill big creatures in the late game and is able to kill pretty much anything they play before turn 3 without the huge downside that Reckoning has. Plus, playing snow lands lets you play some Frostwalk Bastion as a budget Mutavault ; manlands are relatively important in 8-Rack to help increase the clock and Bastion can even buy you an extra turn when it blocks.

Next: 8-Rack's goal is to get each player to topdeck mode as fast as possible, and while Necrogen Mists is a really good value card, its higher cmc means it doesn't get them to start topdecking as fast as a normal discard spell does and it literally does nothing to the opponent once you get into topdeck mode. Liliana's Caress is in the same boat since it doesn't make them discard.

I recommend cutting the Necrogen Mists and the Liliana's Caress es to play 4 Blackmail , 2 Funeral Charm , and 2 Stupor . Funeral Charm can make them discard cards as well as remove early game creatures while Blackmail and Stupor are both decent discard spells. They are less expensive than Necro Mists/Lili's Caress, too.

The deck had some retooling since I last updated it. I'll try to get it uploaded soon. From MH1, Collector Ouphe is 100% going in, since it's a more tutorable Null Rod . Goblin Engineer helps tutor for hate pieces, so it is likely going in. Llanowar Tribe is under consideration, though it is harder to cast than Somberwald Sage . Prismatic Vista is going in, probably for a basic. Shenanigans is a consideration based on the meta, but likely won't make it in. Frostwalk Bastion is a consideration because it can block Tymna decks and whatnot. Reap the Past and Mox Tantalite are strong enough to go in budget lists, though I would probably add Seasons Past to a budget list before Reap. Wrenn and Six will require testing, but I am not optimistic about a walker that needs 4 turns to ult with a mediocre +1.

In Modern Horizons, given the all of the cards are spoiled now, I think Snow is a real deck.

Based Green, while splashing white and blue, this list has a lot going for it.

The Manabase isn't bad. Between Prismatic Vista and like 7 fetches (3 misty, 2 Windswept, 2 Flooded), along with 2 plains and 2 islands, 4 forests, and a Scrying Sheets , that manabase works well, because this list has a lot of ramp. Mouth of Ronom , Frostwalk Bastion , Boreal Shelf , Artic Flats, as well as some other lands are considerations, but I am not a huge fan.

Into the North , Rime Tender, Arcum's Astrolabe , and Boreal Druid help our mana a lot.

Ice-Fang Coatl and Ohran Viper are card draw/removal, but On Thin Ice and Gelid Shackles are strong answers too. Glacial Revelation is the strongest card in the deck, while Ambominable Treefolk is our massive beater.

Diamond Faerie is a secondary option as a finisher, my rough list runs 2 mainboard. It can close out games.

Icehide Golem is another quick beatstick.

Simple list, ramp, draw, removal, and beaters, but all of them are well above the normal rate.

Additionally, I think a mono-green list and simic list may have legs too.
