Nullpriest of Oblivion Discussion

BlackoutX on Kathril, Aspect of Nightmares

Stitcher's Supplier instead of Crystalline Giant , It's cheaper to play and doesn't care about being removed, chances are you will dump something with a keyword immediately making it better.

Valentin, Dean of the Vein  Flip instead of Nullpriest of Oblivion , cheaper to play with the same keywords while also stopping creatures from staying in the graveyard and potentially making your blockers. You may even play the flip side in this deck so that's added value.

Gurmag Swiftwing is worth considering since you don't have many first strikers.

Tortured Existence is amazing in this deck especially if you decide to run cards with cycling like Pale Recluse or Archfiend of Ifnir

Unearth is just good

Question: Can Dream Devourer be combined with Nullpriest of Oblivion when I pay the Kicker? Example: the Nullpriest of Oblivion was exiled with foretell and then I play it from there with 2 black mana and 2 colorless (instead of 4) to use its ability and put a card from the graveyard back into the battle field.

Gorbah To answer the first question it is very powerful, as a part of the storm combination you can win immediately if you have 5 mana available Skullclamp or Heirloom Blade in play and Mana Echoes , Phyrexian Altar , 1 mana vampire in your hand, otherwise if you don't have Phyrexian Altar you can probably win the game if you just play mana echoes and it makes it all the way around the table as long Skullclamp or Heirloom Blade + any sac outlet is out.

Entomb is a new inclusion that I'm trying out that you can use to get Oathsworn Vampire to combo, or just get Bloodghast , or if you have Bloodline Necromancer or Nullpriest of Oblivion you can get any vampire you want right into play.

I agree with trying to capitalize on creatures a little more than noncreatures since you already have Drana, Liberator of Malakir , Zulaport Cutthroat , and Liliana Vess caring about them to one degree or another. I think the best creatures to look into would be vampires since you already have a decent shell for them. Gatekeeper of Malakir or Feast of Blood could swap for Geth's Verdict , Gifted Aetherborn or Nighthawk Scavenger could supplement Vampire Nighthawk , Pulse Tracker or Vampire of the Dire Moon could replace Mardu Shadowspear , Blood Artist could replace Cutthroat, Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose provides redundancy for Sanguine Bond , Pawn of Ulamog can provide sac fodder for cards like Ob Nix or Viscera Seer , Nullpriest of Oblivion is a flexible way to reanimate beefy monsters like Sangromancer , Vampire Nocturnus , Malakir Bloodwitch , Butcher of Malakir , or Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet . Finally, while not a vampire, I'd rather play Sidisi, Undead Vizier over Diabolic Tutor if you can't afford the OG 1-2 cost tutors. BTW, I'm not saying you should run all of these cards; just run what fits your playstyle.

Hey, good start on a budget.

Cards to consider cutting to make 100 cards:

  • Beacon of Immortality
  • Kazarov, Sengir Pureblood
  • Vein Drinker
  • Defiant Bloodlord
  • Mirari
  • Grisly Spectacle
  • Archetype of Finality
  • Arvad the Cursed
  • Teysa Karlov
  • Captivating Crew
  • Bishop of Binding
  • Regal Bloodlord
  • Tempt with Immortality
  • Solar Blaze
  • Commander's Insignia
  • Congregate

The cuts to consider above will reduce the mana curve a lot, but consider reducing it even more by adding more low CMC Vamps: one drops and two drops? With Edgar you want an established battlefield of Vamps to attack before you cast him. Lower CMC Vamps gives you more Vamps on the battlefield because each one also creates a Vamp token. Edgar is the high CMC Vamp you want to cast more the than the others therefore you don't really need lots of other high CMC Vamps or even high CMC nonVamp cards.

Vamps to consider adding that are $1-$2 each, most are less than $1:

If your budget allows more then these tribal Vamps are powerful upgrades:

If interested I offer more advice. Good luck with your deck.

Ah I see.

You are correct that if the commander's color identity is pure white, then you could only include colorless and white cards. However, Tazri, Beacon of Unity 's color identity is thanks to the appearance of those symbols in her text box.

If you go with Tazri, you might consider picking these up: Coveted Prize , Nimble Trapfinder , Thwart the Grave , Crib Swap (this card has all creature types, so it can be picked up via Tazri's ability!), Nameless Inversion , Linvala, Shield of Sea Gate , Zagras, Thief of Heartbeats , Squad Commander , Oakhame Adversary , Malakir Blood-Priest , Veteran Adventurer , Sygg, River Cutthroat , Nullpriest of Oblivion , Moritte of the Frost , Nin, the Pain Artist

ichibancho: For your deck I'd probably recommend War Priest of Thune , Cabal Archon , Leonin Arbiter , High Priest of Penance and/or Nullpriest of Oblivion .

And you're welcome! Always happy to help. =)

ichibancho: Tough question to answer, as the impact of any one card is really dependent on what you're playing against. Suture Priest & War Priest of Thune are both pretty good options from my decklist. A few other options for consideration: Cabal Archon , Disciple of Griselbrand , Leonin Arbiter or Nullpriest of Oblivion . Depends if you want to go the more Staxy route or for more inherent synergies.

I'm sure Geralf's Messenger + Luminous Broodmoth is a pretty fun and convincing way to win a game, but unless you're going to a new tournament with new players every week that shit's gonna get shut down by your playgroup really fast. The same reason I ended up cutting Liliana's Contract + Mirror Entity from this deck. Having Broodmoth out every game would be super! However to build the whole deck with that idea in mind would be foolish. Maybe that's just my own ideology about the game, but I really believe that powerful effects and cards should be nice bonuses when you draw them, not cornerstones to build a deck around. Especially when only one such card (Broodmoth) performs its function, what do you do when it's exiled?

Tutors can mediate a bit of that, but you're playing a Commander that thrives on combining with other 'likeminded' cards. You don't need it to be a Cleric deck to win with Geralf's Messenger and could probably run a different General altogether that would better support your win condition (e.g. Teysa Karlov ).

And you're welcome! Always happy to provide feedback and have a broader discussion! =)
