Today, tomorrow and Wednesday we get all the remaining spoilers for Ultimate Masters. Today’s big reveal of the day thus far...Phyrexian Altar

The other additions were also quite strong, and my best guess for predictions would be to expect Food Chain in this set as well.

Keep the updates coming.

I see that they are reprinting the eldrazi Titans, as well as now Eldrazi Conscription and All Is Dust, so I expect that we will see this continue with reprints of Eye of Ugin and or Eldrazi Temple. While they are at it I hope to see a reprint of the tron lands and maybe Expedition Map, Chromatic Star (this one is just a bit expensive tbh), and Chromatic Sphere (then this one I simply am not a fan of the art much). I had a friend as part of a trade buy me a playset of the lands and now I have a bunch of Urza's Tower and the like with differing art lol.

Im quite pleased with all the reprints that I see I will be needing to pick up for my Meren edh deck so far.

Also Glen Elendra archmage is pretty exciting for edh.

I'm surprised to see another gamble reprint. That probably could have been used reprinting something more important, but now we've seen a black and red tutor. Another tutor cycle reprint incoming? Maybe this time we'll get Idyllic Tutor and Personal Tutor and Worldly Tutor?

ToolmasterOfBrainerd I think you might be right on the tutor cycle, as that would make a lot of sense with how the set is being structured thus far, as well as the need for those reprints.

Overall, the set appears to be shaping up to really represent the name choice, so much so I already preordered two more boxes...

Similarly, I hope we see maybe something such as Tooth and Nail, Sylvan Tutor or Fauna Shaman.

Phyrexian Tower revealed as well. This appears to be a well-seasoned reanimator set for sure.

ToolmasterOfBrainerd - Most people speculate the recent Ixalan flavored tutors are just WoTC recycling the canceled Ixalan masterpieces. Besides, a tag line of searching for treasures makes perfect sense on the plane.

Runed Halo reprint.

November 19, 2018 2:30 p.m.

I was worried when Tasigur made the Ultimate Box Toppers, but it seems like the value is still flowing.

C'mon Wizards, I want Oracle of Mul Daya and Exploration and Bloom Tender and Surgical Extraction and more tutors and...

Between the MSRP and announcement that this would be the final masters set in the near future, it seemed a solid bet that the EV per pack would be quite strong. So far, it appears WoTC is delivering on those aspects, as the rest of the set would have to be toilet water to depress the EV below MSRP, and I think there are still several more value cards to be spoiled.

Totally agree ToolmasterOfBrainerd. All I want/expect for Christmas is an Oracle of Mul Daya reprint!!

Back to Basics at rare...that EV is looking really solid.

November 19, 2018 5:14 p.m.

Oh my god they did it. I was kinda disappointed when it wasn't a box topper because I didn't think it would be in the set. Wow

If they spoil force of will at rare I will involuntarily orgasm in class.

There was already a thread for this, so there was no reason to make this thread.

However, the cards spoiled thus far are very nice.

Another reprint of Gamble is good, but I really would have liked Worldly Tutor, so I shall still remain hopeful for it.

Many players were hoping for a reprint of Phyrexian Altar, and they got it. I would have preferred any member of the Weatherlight over Squee, but him, Phyrexian altar, and Fecundity will be an insane combo.

The reprint of Phyrexian Tower is very nice, as well, since it has never been reprinted, before, and Glen Elendra Archmage is also a great reprint, if I ever make an EDH deck with Oona as the general.

I still am hoping for reprints of Akroma's Memorial and Vedalken Orrery, since they are great for EDH but very expensive at this time.

Containment Priest to counter-compliment the reanimator theme thus far.

November 20, 2018 1:43 a.m.

Boza says... #16

In the world of pauper, there are two exciting reprints - Chainer's Edict which is widely played at quite expensive in paper, and Resurrection which is downshifted to common.

For EDH players, Sovereigns of Lost Alara is reprinted to compliment your new Tuvasa decks.

Downshifted cards include Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker for some reason, Fire / Ice is now a common and Sigil of the New Dawn is an interesting shift to uncommon.

Overall, I am liking this set a lot more after this wave of spoilers.

For Legacy and Modern, Flagstones of Trokair is exciting.

November 20, 2018 4:17 a.m.

Bogles package (including daybreak Coronet) spoiled.

They really did go all out on this one.

Reprints of leylines of the void and sanctity are almost certainly too much to ask for, but modern could really use them.

We also got fauna shaman. Here's to hoping for Oracle of mul daya still. I also wouldn't mind Strip Mine. If Oracle gets spoiled then I'm going to overhaul my edh deck deck ramp package.

I wanted to see a reprint of the tron lands with new art, but apparently those, surgical extraction and my other hope for oracle of muldaya won’t happen.

However overall i’m quite pleased with the set.

DemonDragonJ says... #20

Sigil of the New Dawn is very nice, because, despite its low price, it has never been reprinted, and the new artwork looks great.

I am not particularly pleased about the reprint of Containment Priest, because I feel that that card is too inexpensive for such a powerful effect (it really should have cost 3 or 4 mana for that effect).

Angel of Despair is one of my favorite angles in the game, so her being reprinted is always nice; I would have preferred to see her with new artwork, but her current artwork is so awesome that there is no real need to replace it. Why was she demoted to an uncommon? She is far too powerful to be anything less than a rare, in my mind.

I really would like to see all ten lieges (but most notably Balefire Liege and Deathbringer Liege) from Shadowmoor and Eventide reprinted, becuase many of them need to be reprinted.

Ertai, the Corrupted would also look very nice in the new frame style, as well.

Pattern of Rebirth and Spoils of the Vault were not particularly expensive, but their new artwork is very nice.

I did not realize that Vengevine had become so expensive, so it being reprinted in this set is very nice, indeed.

November 20, 2018 10:05 p.m.

No more tutors. No path to exile. No Oracle of Mul Daya or Bloom Tender or Exploration. No surgical extraction.

Oh well. Still a lot of good reprints included.

November 21, 2018 3:50 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #22

I am very displeased that neither Akroma's Memorial nor Rhystic Study were reprinted, since both of those cards very much need to be reprinted.

The new artwork on Vengeful Rebirth is nice; I see that Seb MicKinnon is taking inspiration from Rebecca Guay and/or Terese Nielsen in that image.

I really wish that I had waited to purchase a Lord of Extinction for my Mimeoplasm EDH deck until it was reprinted in this set, as doing so would have saved me a great amount of money, but I made that purchase months before this set was even announced, so there was no way that I could have known about it.

The reprint of Reviving Vapors is very nice, and I may purchase a copy if I ever build a white/blue EDH deck.

Prismatic Lens is rather useless; Prophetic Prism would have been vastly better.

It is good to see Anger and Brawn reprinted, but why were the other incarnations in that cycle not reprinted? That is especially glaring considering that Filth and Valor have never been reprinted.

Most of the lands were great, but did the game really need another reprint of Terramorphic Expanse? Also, Rogue's Passage and Thespian's Stage were great, but those spaces could have been used for lands that need reprints much more severely, such as Reflecting Pool, Meteor Crater, or Vesuva.

In conclusion, I shall purchase some cards from this set, but not too many, and I certainly shall not purchase any boost packs or booster boxes. This set did have some nice cards, but I feel that it overall was slightly underwhelming for it being the final masters set for the foreseeable future, so I hope that whatever WotC has planned for reprint sets in the future is a worthwhile replacement.

To add to what you have said already DemonDragonJ, I think all the mythics they chose were good choices (although Balefire Dragon should have got reprinted imo instead in iconic masters or somewhere else. Wish there was a Mox Opal reprint though, and because there's not any affinity related reprints I have changed my mind on pursuing to build that deck. I got the Inkmoth Nexuss' and so i'm going to use those for my original plan of infect in modern.

Hopes that I still had were for Oracle of Mul Daya, Surgical Extraction, maybe some of or all of the leyline cycle, and then a few more tron related things I had hoped to see were Chromatic Star / Chromatic Sphere (one is simply pricey while the other I just wanted to see new art for as I don't like the old ones). But yeah I agree Filth would have been a better choice for a reprint. One of the things I would have liked to see most was a new art set of the urza lands so I can replace my mismatched art playsets lol. They would have made for a good uncommon reprint I think, and while it would have took up 3 of the set's uncommons you could simply cut out Rogue's Passage, and the like. City of Brass and or Reflecting Pool would have been good choices here, and maybe Vesuva over Thespian's Stage. This would have been a good opportunity to reprint Cabal Coffers I think too especially with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth being already present.

I'm however happy for the reprint of Karn Liberated, a noble hierarch reprint, Demonic Tutor (they should have done a tutor cycle though with idyllic tutor for white, worldly tutor for green, and personal tutor for blue). Dark Depths, Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, Phyrexian Tower, Phyrexian Altar, Entomb, Reanimate, among others were all cards that I still had been needing for a meren deck. The eldrazi titans I had been wanting to get a copy of each for decks as well.

Altogether though I think the set is certainly fine, they have certainly done better than iconic and m25, and have reprinted a lot of relevant cards that badly needed reprints like Celestial Colonnade, again Snapcaster Mage, Liliana of the Veil, Tarmogoyf etc. The reprints of Back to Basics, Temporal Manipulation, Phyrexian Altar, Phyrexian Tower were needed and hopefully there will be one for others like Ravages of War eventually too. I'm not one too complain too much tbh, and i'm mostly satisfied with this set as i'm sure some of the things that I still hoped for will get their chance at reprints sooner or later.

So now that it's all revealed, what are every one's thoughts?

November 23, 2018 6:18 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #25

APPLE01DOJ, I have already stated my opinion, above, but I am very displeased that WotC missed several key reprints, including the allied-colored filter lands, Rhystic Study, Vedalken Orrery, and Akroma's Memorial, since all of those cards are very expensive but are amazingly-powerful and, thus, in high demand.

However, the set did have some great reprints, such as Ancient Tomb and Temporal Manipulation, so it was not a complete failure.

November 25, 2018 5:17 p.m.

Hmm card wise, this set seems pretty great. A lot of needed commander reprints and some cool new art. Limited play wise...eh, there are some cool archetypes for sure, but the fact that they pretty much included the entire Bogles deck in a limited environment could ruin the play experience. At least Slippery Bogle is at uncommon so that could save things.

As far as the set as a whole goes though...it's a dumpster fire. Wizards completely ruined it by jacking up prices, poorly executing the box topper idea, screwing over LGS with Blister Packs, and then being indifferent towards players complaining about being priced out of the set. And to top it all off, its a limited print run, so none of these reprints will really impact the cost of these cards.

November 27, 2018 10:48 a.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #27

Another card that I really wish to see reprinted is Ancient Spider, and this would have been a great set in which to reprint it, preferably demoted to an uncommon. For only a slightly stricter casting cost over Giant Spider, it is generally superior to that card in every way.

Went and traded in a Primal Vigor and a Tempt with Discovery -im strapped for disposable income- to get a couple of packs of ultimate masters. A gamble i know but I figured with all the value in the set I would pull something decent. Well what happened was i pulled a Talrand, Sky Summoner and a Nourishing Shoal as my rares. Didn't even get a mentionable uncommon. I think i teared up.
