APPLE01DOJ Blackwater of the Abyss
I really haven't had too much luck with Waste Not. I'm not giving up on it just yet though.
Unless there is some weird ruling I don't know about, Amulet of Safekeeping stacks.

I like the card a lot. It's really good on the play when the opponent has to mulligan because kills their free scry, likewise it can be good against Serum Visions and late game when people hold onto lands. I've found the life gain beneficial.
I ran this list the other day New Pox. I think 8Rack is in a good position right now. Especially with decks like Howling Mine on the rise. 2 cards I think are worthy of running are Liliana's Caress on the side. It single handily hoses Hollow One and can slow Steam Kin Red down as well. The second SB is Amulet of Safekeeping. This thing is pure Storm hate but also puts in work against stuff like Mardu Pyromancer or decks that rely on Lingering Souls. I'm only running 1 in my list but after testing it, it's certainly worth more slots.

Those effects only last 1 turn. That's assuming that those enchantments don't get killed in the process either.
I could be looking at it wrong, how has it done in testing?

I think the deck might be a little slow. I don't see what benefit it would have over a standard burn package.

I'm from the era of Fetch > Shock > Thoughtseize, followed by a turn 2 Dark Confidant. Life is a commodity not a strategy.

FSims81 a potential T1 play is far stronger than a potential T3 play. Especially when T1 is often the only "safe/free" turn against any deck running blue. Furthermore being able to pay life instead of mana is a clear advantage not a disadvantage

I actually started out with a deck that had a lot of the cards you listed and found it to be slow and underwhelming.
The discard has been absolutely amazing. I don't understand why the majority of stanadard players think they belong in the side. They almost always hit and even when they don't they still provide valuable information. Vicious Rumors has been great. It does so much for so little mana and since there is no Liliana of the Veil in Standard, it has a similiar effect.
Underrealm Lich is a powerhouse. His Sylvan Library like effect pretty much seals games and the thing that he has over Doom Whisperer which gets killed about 90% of the time is that he sticks. Having indestructible access with no mana investment is huge.
Golgari Findbroker was one of the last cards I cut but I'd say my wins have gone up since doing so.
The exploring merfolk are okay but they still die to Ritual of Soot which often becomes a 4 of game 2. I've seen them get big but the majority of the time you're paying 3 mana for an extra land to go to hand and a creature that'll die before it can swing once. Please also note the anti-synergy they have when against Vicious Rumors
Not trying to shoot down all your suggestions and I thank you for commenting. I just been down that path before and for my play style at least, this is much more successful than moving backwards.
That being said, I do see the value of a The Eldest Reborn in the 75. What would you cut for it?
Also, I agree the curve is rather wonky. The intention is to leave room for interaction but I wish there was some more instant speed stuff.

Been eyeing Glowspore Shaman for a minute. May have to find some room for 3 or 4.
Thanks for the upvote and suggestions. Going to ponder over them some more.

I originally tried a more creature based deck with stuff like Ravenous Chupacabra but I found that it just wasn't my play style, in fact it was kind of boring (to me) and that I'm far more successful with my current line up. Not a fan of hoping to draw the exact creature I need to sway the tides of battle when I could just draw a more universal kill spell and just eliminate the threat.
That being stated and you said you've had success with Ritual of Soot as well, do you feel 2 is the right number MB?

Also seems 24 lands might work better.

Of those 2 I would buy Spirits but I personally feel Burn has much more longevity.
Trouble is most of the cost of Spirits is Cavern of Souls. If it sees a decent reprint the value of your deck could drastically plummet.

I'm not much of a standard player, haven't played it very much since Theros. I'm not familiar with the meta but have been dabbling in it and learning what's out there this last week. I've been having a blast using and tweaking this deck.

So a few observations, I'd like feedback & thoughts on. First, Ritual of Soot is an absolute powerhouse in a lot of matches. I've been debating increasing the current MB copies to either 3MB & 1SB or all 4MB.
Second, Control of the U/Wx variety seems to be the most difficult match up for me. What sideboard cards are really good in that match?
Third, any other suggestions or improvements?
