this is not your average phelddagrif deck.
This deck is made in a control shell with targeted hug aspects. Essentially, you play by saying you are group hug, making friends, and controlling to keep the game stable and fun. Then when it gets down to one on one, you should already have selected cards in your hand for late game and have a small pillowfort set up. Now is time to grind out the control and beat down with one of the large creatures (or Phelddagrif) this deck has. There are also a few combos FOR DIRE SITUATIONS ONLY (combos can be unfun and this deck is all about fun, but I always put combos in my decks to compete with other combos just in case). Now here is the deck breakdown:
FRIENDLY HUG:
These cards are designed to help/save people to make friends
Spectral Searchlight
Spurnmage Advocate
Nullmage Advocate
Phelddagrif
+
Proteus Staff
= 2GU: Polymorph
Squirrel Nest...if you enchant an opponents land with this, I promise they will do anything you ask for the entire game, everybody loves squirrels!!
Baton of Morale
...save sombody with a band of hippos to block with. Plus it's funny to play with banding. Makes people think.
Maze of Ith
Cephalid Coliseum you can make your opponent draw if they give you a good reason to
Mystifying Maze
Roon of the Hidden Realm
Soldevi Sentry
Spellskite
Earthcraft
Avacyn, Guardian Angel
Kiora's Follower
Phelddagrif
Questing Phelddagrif
Yavimaya Hollow
Edric, Spymaster of Trest
Prahv, Spires of Order
Forbidden Orchard
CONTROL
These can all be used to help people by controlling things that hurt them, but can also save yourself/the game
Dream Fracture
Roon of the Hidden Realm
Maze of Ith
Mystifying Maze
Telepathy
Illusionist's Gambit
Path to Exile
Rout
Supreme Verdict
Rubinia Soulsinger
(usually used to take a creature away from a player who is being mean)
Kiora, the Crashing Wave
Cyclonic Rift
AEtherspouts
Arcane Denial
Frost Titan
Mystical Tutor can get a lot of these
Time Stop
Voidslime
Stifle
Council's Judgment
mind slaver
(only used on somebody for being mean)
Proteus Staff to tuck commanders that are being mean and problemsome creatures
CARD DRAW (universal or me)
Every deck has to have it's fair share of card draw
Mikokoro, Center of the Sea
Kiora Crashing Wave
Rites of Flourishing
Fact or Fiction...with the politics this deck plays, this card often reads "draw 5 cards"
Future Sight
Consecrated Sphinx (when playing use this ability sparingly. Do not make yourself a target with this advantage. That may mean not using it for a bit, trust me)
Rhystic Study
you can actually tell people you will help them if they let you draw and you will always get at least a couple more cards than usual off of this card.
Isperia, Supreme Judge
...works great when you're giving opponents hippos
Sphinx's Revelation
Selvala, Explorer Returned
Cephalid Coliseum
Edric, Spymaster of Trest
RAMP AND FIXING
It's important to hit land drops with this deck. You need mana to help your opponents, play cards, and keep up mana for control in case anybody turns on you.
Selvala, Explorer Returned
Prophet of Kruphix
Kiora, the Crashing Wave
Exploration
Courser of Kruphix
Oracle of Mul Daya
Rites of Flourishing
Birds of Paradise
Spectral Searchlight
Chromatic Lantern
Expedition Map
Mirari's Wake
Kiora's Follower
Earthcraft
Tempt with Discovery
PILLOW FORT
You need to make sure people have to jump through hoops to attack you. If people don't think attacking you is worth it, they are less likely to break alliances with you. All of these cards also make the hippo tokens not matter for you and thereby let you give out a bunch and let your opponents kill eachother with them.
Ghostly Prison
Propaganda
Island Sanctuary
Teferi's Moat
Crawlspace
Enlightened Tutor gets any of the above, so I count it.
Edric, Spymaster of Trest
Isperia, Supreme Judge
LATEGAME BEATDOWN
this deck needs some creatures to beat down with once it gets down to two and it starts to play a more control-esque game. Note that all these creatures have a strong purpose without attacking (not counting the kraken tokens, but kiora has a purpose).
Isperia, Supreme Judge
Consecrated Sphinx
Roon of the Hidden Realm
Avacyn, Guardian Angel
Questing Phelddagrif
Phelddagrif
Frost Titan
Kiora, the Crashing Wave kraken tokens
WINNING COMBOS
Every deck has to have immediate win combos to compete with other combos like it
Intruder Alarm
+
Phelddagrif
and a mana producing creature (Birds of Paradise or Earthcraft
+
Forest
) make infinite hippos. Combine that with Suture Priest and everybody dies. Or have Selvala, Explorer Returned instead of the bird and make everybody draw their deck.
Earthcraft + Squirrel Nest
kills everybody with infinite squirrels. This is easy to do and people actually enjoy dying this way sometimes.
SYNERGISTIC COMBOS
These are cards that work well together, but do not win the game
Future Sight
+
Island Sanctuary
you never really need to draw the card since you can play it anyways. Island Sanctuary also goes with Oracle of Mul Daya and Courser of Kruphix if the top is a land and future sight goes with Enlightened Tutor and Mystical Tutor since you can tutor to the top of your library.
Nacatl War-Pride
+
Phelddagrif
this one is not as obvious. But by the rules, if I attack somebody with Nacatl War-Pride, the number tokens are equal to the number of creatures the defending player has (which I can manipulate with hippo tokens), but the tokens can attack any player. So you can give one player a bunch of tokens, generate that many 3/3 tokens, and send them at another player.
Phelddagrif
+
Proteus Staff
is a repeatable Polymorph-like ability
Intruder Alarm
+
Phelddagrif
lets me untap all creatures for G, which can be a great political move
HONORABLE MENTIONS
There are a couple cards that aren't categorical, but are just strong and still should be mentioned
Echo Mage
counters any counterspell and can really benefit people. If somebody casts a kill spell, you can copy it and redirect it at them. Very flexible card.
Eternal Witness every deck with green needs one in edh. Getting back resources is very powerful and one reason why
Spurnmage Advocate
and
Nullmage Advocate
can be extremely seductive political moves.
Phyrexian Metamorph every deck with access to blue should be running this clone. It's a staple, cloning is good. That is all.
I'M DONE NOW
So now that you have read my incredible long deck tech, feel free to test it, play with it, and give feedback as well as recommend cards. +1 if you like! Thanks and have a great day :)
