Teferi's Moat Discussion

Panas on Fort Treva

Alright, I'll make a list of pillowfort cards that you may want to consider. Remember that a pillow fort is not just about taxing people that attack you, it's also about making clear that it's to their disadvantage to spend their resources on you rather than someone else. Taxing is extremely effective early, but later in the game it becomes less relevant.

To counteract this, you can include some cards that demonstrate that when something happens to you, the one who did it has major repercussions (aka rattlesnakes). Take Aura Thief, Archon of Justice and Academy Rector, as well as your Karmic Justice as prime examples of this. Another good one is the white equivalent of grave pact: Martyr's Bond. Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker fulfils a similar role. Last but not least is Dissipation Field.

Then you also have true protection. Cards that specifically state that you cannot be harmed: Solitary Confinement is the best example, but you also have lite versions in Crawlspace and Teferi's Moat. Stormtide Leviathan can work too, but it's very expensive and colour heavy.

The last point I wish to make concerns Privileged Position and its interaction with Sterling Grove.

Overall, the list looks very nice! It's just that people now understand that taxing them is your way of earning time and that you should be considered as a potential big threat late in the game. So the best course of action is to take you out first. No pillow fort can handle a coalition of 3 other players just by taxing.

On a sidenote, how does the deck win???

Crawlspace Norn's Annex Teferi's Moat Blind Obedience Narset, Enlightened Master and Dissipation Field are all cards you could consider. I like the deck but just know that the planeswalker will be your only friends when you play this lol

GD Merfolk! I have a merfolk EDH with Sygg and I luvv it, but it just doesn't keep up with super aggro decks unfortunately. They aren't terrible in multi-player, but in heads up merfolk EDH can be very disappointing. Trust me, I've tried most notable cards in it and in every configuration. I highly recommend cards like Inundate, Wash Out, Teferi's Moat, AEtherize, Opposition. Also, True-Name Nemesis is almost a must! Still +1 from me because I've been there.

Sweet list overall, a few suggestion I would give are as follows:

  1. You probably should add more lands as 32 is a bit greedy even for a deck will as much filtering as this one. Something are 36 is a little bit safer, especially because your deck functions much better with your commander out on turn four.

  2. I would swap out Counterspell for Memory Lapse as Memory Lapse takes advantage of your commander's cost reduction.

  3. The advantage that Imprisoned in the Moon has over a card like Detention Sphere which hits all copies and can target enchantments and artifacts all without giving them an extra land is that Imprisoned in the Moon can keep players off certain colors of mana. This effect is much more effective in multiples however, because negating one land usually wont keep them off all their colors for long. Due to this I would replace Imprisoned in the Moon with Detention Sphere unless you want to go more in the mana denial direction with cards like Spreading Seas and Annex.

  4. Generally it isn't too important to get rid of turn one enchantments, most of the power ones exist in the four or five slot, so Erase is cheaper of a spell then you need for that effect. I would choose a card like Return to Dust which can also hit artifacts and multiple targets.

  5. I see you have a library manipulation subtheme with the miracles and top X card rearrangers. A card you might want to consider is Ancestral Knowledge which goes really deep into your library to set up the top card.

  6. One weakness of your deck currently is it is lacking a way to deal with graveyard shenanigans. Adding in a card such as Angel of Finality would help combat this weakness.

  7. Because many of the creatures in commander need to be dealt with before their controller untaps, the restriction on Swift Reckoning is pretty tough. Something more universal like Swords to Plowshares is usually better.

  8. Teferi's Moat is a card much like Propaganda or Ghostly Prison that you should consider.

I do really like the miracles slant you have given to this deck and I'm excited to see how it evolves in the future.
