Creature (1)

The game plan is to play stax pieces like Contamination, Thorn of Amethyst, and Null Rod that will have an asymmetrically negative effect on opponents, while ramping with mana dorks to create an even greater resource disparity. A toolbox of creatures, key tutors, and versatile removal spells allow the deck to protect itself while establishing the Protean Hulk or Necrotic Ooze combos for the win. This is not a prison deck, and the goal is usually not to try to completely lock all opponents out of the game. The Protean Hulk combo does not take too long to set up, and so it isn't necessary to trip opponents up for all that long to before you can combo off.

Primary - Protean Hulk: Sacrifice/Kill Protean Hulk, fetching Viscera Seer or Carrion Feeder, Body Snatcher, Sylvan Safekeeper, and Dryad Arbor. Sacrifice Snatcher in response to its ETB trigger, returning Hulk to the battlefield. Hulk is immediately sacrificed, allowing you to fetch the Mikaeus, the Unhallowed + Walking Ballista combo.

Sacrifice Ballista, causing the Undying trigger to return Ballista to the battlefield as a 2/2 (1/1 from Mikaeus' anthem and a +1/+1 counter from Undying). Remove the counter to ping an opponent for 1 damage. Sac Ballista again and repeat until everyone is dead. Sylvan Safekeeper provides protection for Hulk, Mikaeus, Ballista, and Seer/Feeder, helping to ensure that the combo goes off.

Secondary - Necrotic Ooze: Necrotic Ooze with Phyrexian Devourer + Triskelion in the graveyard. Ooze uses Devourer's ability to buff itself with lots of +1/+1 counters, which are then removed with Triskelion's ability to kill the table.

Tertiary - Ballista/Triskelion & Mike: Walking Ballista +Mikaeus, the Unhallowed + Any Sac Outlet or Mikaeus + Triskelion. If all else fails, you can stax the table as hard as you can and hardcast Walking Ballista/Triskelion and Mikaeus. Not ideal, but it gets the job done.

With the unbanning of Protean Hulk, Meren finally has access to a combo that is more powerful than the Boonweaver combo; this has eliminated the power level gap between Meren and Karador Boonweaver lists. IMO, the balance is now tipped in Meren's favor. Being a G/B deck, Meren has more consistent mana and can afford to run powerful resource denial cards like Contamination and Winter Orb.

Meren herself is a powerful engine. Every turn she will either 'draw' you an extra (creature) card or put a creature into play for free. At 4CMC, casting her is rarely a problem given the amount of dork ramp the deck has access to. And despite her power, the deck is not reliant on her to win.
