Why I built the deck:

Because I love B/G and all the things it can do, with recursion being right at the top of the list. I've built several golgari decks in the past but of all of them, Meren has been the most consistent and funnest to play. What I've built here is a toolbox reanimator deck with a minor stax theme, mainly in the form of recurring Fleshbag Marauder and/or Merciless Executioner enough to clear my opponents' boards.

How the deck wins:

The deck wins through combat damage or by sacrificing Lord of Extinction and/or other big creatures to Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord. While it is possible to win off of a Protean Hulk trigger, I personally don't aim to do that in this deck.

How to play it:

The strategy can be broken down into 3 steps:

• 1.) Play Meren and get experience counters as soon as you can. This can be effectively achieved with Hope of Ghirapur, Sakura-Tribe Elder, Caustic Caterpillar, Fleshbag Marauder/Merciless Executioner, Winding Constrictor, and Sidisi, Undead Vizier, among other things.

• 2.) Fill your graveyard through the use of sac outlets like Altar of Dementia, Ashnod's Altar, Birthing Pod, and Greater Good, or by dredging with Life from the Loam, Stinkweed Imp, or Golgari Grave-Troll.

• 3.) Use the graveyard to win. This can mean reanimating creatures and beating your opponents down over the course of a few turns, but usually means finding Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord and sacrificing Lord of Extinction to him.

Possible future inclusions:

• Spore Frog because gaining experience counters while not taking combat damage is good.

• Woodland Bellower, who can bring in Caustic Caterpillar, Sakura-Tribe Elder, Winding Constrictor, Eternal Witness, Reclamation Sage, or Tireless Tracker with it.

• Living Death because this is a goddamn reanimator deck.

• Crucible of Worlds to play dredged/discarded lands out of my graveyard. Also gives my opponents something unnecessary to aim their removal at.
