My casual and budget
Savra, Queen of the Golgari
deck based on reanimation and mini-combos driven by sacrificing of my stuff to gain huge card / board advantage.
Card analysis
Sac outlets
Ashnod's Altar + Phyrexian Altar are key cards for several types of combos. Very important cards.
Attrition
locks several types of decks.
Birthing Pod is insane toolbox card that gives you answer to almost everything. I'll add separate section just for this card as it's awesome.
Dimir House Guard
is mainly used as a tutor to find key combo pieces (e.g. Birthing Pod) or might be used as a sac outlet (usually when reanimated with Living Death).
Dread Return Casting for its flashback cost is like cheating - no one sees this comming. This card is often dredged into the graveyard where it waits till tokens from Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder or Avenger of Zendikar are replaced by some major thread.
Fleshbag Marauder provides an one time sac outlet for my creatures (just to reanimate them) and helps in the
Attrition
wars.
Grim Backwoods
is quite expensive, but solid sac outlet. An extra draw is always welcomed.
High Market
saves the day. You want to steal / enchant / kill / clone my minion? No, thanks!
Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord Still being playtested. I've not used his sacrifice ability yet, but it seems solid. Especially with fatties that provide infinite combos like Avenger of Zendicar.
Perilous Forays
gives you huge mana advantage. Combine with Bloodghast for ultimate fun.
Phyrexian Plaguelord
solves problems with indestructible creatures like [[Stuffy Doll].
Sadistic Hypnotist clears hands of opponents. When unanswered, usually closes the game.
Victimize
is more basically 3+ for one. One sacrifice, One Savra's effect, 2 reanimated creatures.
Viscera Seer helps to find key cards in the deck. When used as a part of infinite combo, it just finds anything.
What might happen when a creature is sacrificed
With
Gutter Grime
, another creature is born. Stronger than before.
With either Butcher of Malakir or Grave Pact, another creature dies. Glissa, the Traitor might then return destroyed Birthing Pod or Nim Deathmantle or Nihil Spellbomb for more fun. Massacre Wurm slowly kills oponents.
With Harvester of Souls another card is drawn.
With Mikaeus, the Unhallowed another ETB effect is provided and old fried is welcomed back. Add Woodfall Primus for end of the game.
Skullclamp provides extra cards.
Reanimation cards
Bloodghast is key part of the game. It's not a bad idea to keep one fetch land in the play (preferably a panorama) to save him from graveyard hate or use him as an uexpected cannon fodder.
Creeping Renaissance returns all dredged creatures to you hand. Might be also cast from the graveyard when dredged out.
Deadwood Treefolk
replaces itself with 2 creatures. Good Birthing Pod target.
Dread Return is even better when in the graveyard.
Eternal Witness Everyone loves the Witness. It just can't be a bad draw. Plus it's a great target for Birthing Pod as Bloodghast or Reassembling Skeleton are easy to reanimate and sac.
Glissa, the Traitor can bring back key combo pieces, triggering it is quite easy with all the attrition effect in the deck.
Golgari Thug can help me to get some creature back. Might be a little bit slow, but when used with either
Grim Backwoods
or Harvester of Souls, it's not that bad.
Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord. In case of emergency, he can reanimate himself and serve to
Savra, Queen of the Golgari
.
Living Death great card when you have Nihil Spellbomb or Bojuka Bog. Once I've Ghost Quartered my Bojuka Bog to get it back with Life from the Loam and than cast Living Death. With a good sac outlet, you can also send all your guys to your graveyard and than cast this one. Too bad is countered, though.
Nim Deathmantle is my favourite reanimation tool. When Ashnod's Altar / Phyrexian Altar is in the play, you can sacrifice Avenger of Zendikar or Reassembling Skeleton or Woodfall Primus or Mikaeus, the Unhallowed + a non human for an almost infinite combo / Savra's triggers.
Oversold Cemetery is easy to trigger as this deck runs 30+ creatures.
Phyrexian Reclamation is easy to pay with Savra life gain.
Reassembling Skeleton is basically Bloodghast #2. And it can block fatties.
Sheoldred, Whispering One is an army itself. Reanimates, kills, unblockable beater.
Victimize
Dredge / full graveyard effects
Creeping Renaissance might return huge amount of cards to my hand. I've also used
Praetor's Counsel
but this one seems better for this deck.
Crypt of Agadeem provides mana. It's always at least one B even when my graveyard is empty. More reliable than Cabal Coffers.
Dakmor Salvage fills the graveyard. And might provide extra mana when needed and is in the graveyard.
Ghost Quarter later in the game, it can fill my graveyard with my own lands that can be reanimated Bojuka Bog or that can give another worm from
Worm Harvest
.
Golgari Thug also fills the graveyard for more targets quite easilly. It's good to see this guy die, he is usually revenged.
Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord can send more lands to your graveyard for
Worm Harvest
. And triggers both
Savra, Queen of the Golgari
effects.
Kessig Cagebreakers. Just one attack is enough to kill someone or provide sac tokens for card/live/scry/draw/reanimation/
Attrition
wars.
Life from the Loam All your lands are belong to us. Self driven dredge effect for mana stabilization. Returns important lands as
High Market
or Bojuka Bog. Neglects Jarad, Golgari Lich Lords reanimation cost.
Stinkweed Imp
fills the graveyard and keeps me away from being attacked by fatties.
Worm Harvest
might also win games. Or at least provides tokens for other funny effects. With Skullclamp it somehow keeps itself running.
Yavimaya Elder
, Mitotic Slime, Sakura-Tribe Elder.
Creakwood Liege produces tokens of both colors, also makes other creatures stronger.
