"Survival rule 782: There are always more scute bugs."

Welcome to my Omnath, Locus of Creation landfall primer. This build is a fun to pilot, mid-tiered tempo deck that stays true to it's Landfall roots. This idea was conceptualized with 3 main goals in mind.

  1. To be relatively inexpensive, while still being a "well oiled machine".

  2. To stay mostly away from Cedh or even High Powered pods. Essentially be a strong mid-tiered deck. Power lvl 6-7ish if you will.

  3. To keep the Landfall theme relevant.

I believe I have achieved all three of these to a fairly high degree in this build. With out further ado.... let's get started.

The deck has a plethora of ways that it can win, with each play through potentially being slightly different. Though there are many potential routes to go about pulling away with the W, these are essentially the 4 main focuses/plans of the deck.

  1. Forming an army and attacking using Pathbreaker Ibex or Dragon Throne of Tarkir to give your armies trample and power buffs

  2. Plains + Retreat to Coralhelm + Ruin Ghost for ""infinite"" Landfall Triggers. If you have either Spitfire Lagac or Tunneling Geopede on the field aswell, than good game.

  3. Ashaya, Soul of the Wild + Quirion Ranger with either Tunneling Geopede or Spitfire Lagac on the field. As long as Ashaya is on the field, and it, or another creature is on the field without summoning sickness. You can tap the creature for , then return Quirion Ranger to your hand, untapping Ashaya, cast Quirion Ranger again, then tap ashaya for . Rinse and repeat for "infinite" Landfall triggers since Ashaya makes creatures into forest along with their subtype.

  4. With Kodama of the East Tree and either Scute Swarm or Omnath, Locus of Rage on the field, you can use a bounce land such as Azorius Chancery to create an arbitrarily large army by stacking the triggers correctly. When you play the bounce Land you trigger kodama and the bounce land, which both go onto the stack (you get to decide in which order they resolve). You return the bounce Land from its etb and then replay it from kodama's ability, targeting itself again when it enters, returning it to your hand. Both of the times the bounce Land enters will put any landfall trigger onto the stack. So when that resolves, if you had Scute Swarm on the field for an example, it will have made a 1/1 or copy of itself for each time the bounceland enters, total for 2 at this point... Each of those 1/1's or copies will enter the battlefield, which in turn will trigger kodama's ability allowing you to replay the bounce land, targeting itself when it enters creating another token. Rinse and repeat. Making let's say 19 trillion scute swarms copies. Since Kodama's ability says you "may" in it, you can stop the loop at anytime. Otherwise it would've needed an external source to stop the loop or it wouldve ended the game in a draw due to it being an actually infinite loop.

There are 9/100 cards that are 5cmc or higher in this build. If you draw your first 7 and there's two of them in there, definitely mulligan. I'd personally consider a mulligan, if there was even just 1 in there that was 5cmc or higher. This deck is all about ramping, since it's a "Landfall" theme. Those cards we will be able to draw into, and play later. So in your opening hand, you want a turn 1 or turn 2 play that ramps

1. Extra Land drops per turn with any bounce Land such as Azorius Chancery for an example, is straight gas for the tank. When the bounce Land enters the battlefield, target it's self to return it to hand. Repeat for all available Land drops per turn to get multiple triggers of Landfall each turn consistently.

  1. Ashaya, Soul of the Wild is another phenomenal engine in the build. With Ashaya in play, you successfully turn every creature into a Landfall trigger. Sword of Hearth and Home now can produce multiple Triggers with it's effects. Moreover, any creature with a Landfall ability will see it's self as a forest when it enter the battlefield and trigger it's own Landfall ability. (Note that any creature that has a landfall ability that creates a creature token when triggered does not go "infinite" when paired with Ashaya, since Ashaya only sees's nontoken creatures as a land. Hence the tokens will not be considered a land and do not trigger any landfall effects on entering.)

  2. Fierce Empath is in the list to almost exclusively find either Pathbreaker Ibex in an attempt to closeout the game using its ability to buff your army with power and trample, or to find Kodama of the East Tree.

  3. In a prolonged game, both Titania, Nature's Force and Omnath, Locus of Rage's landfall effects create elementals, which help with Omnath, Locus of the Roil's ability to draw if there's 8 or more elementals on the field
