Obeka, Splitter of Seconds

Commander / EDH* UBR (Grixis)

keitterman

Sideboard

This deck doesn't really focus on one upkeep strategy, but is a jack-of-all-trades approach to Obeka, Splitter of Seconds

It goes a bit mana-heavy with eleven non-land mana sources because there's a lot of opportunity to play other people's spells, and we may need that mana to do so. If you wanted to cut some of them out, you must leave the Replicating Ring and the The Reaver Cleaver, as they synergize with Obeka, Splitter of Seconds. Other ones to keep would be prioritized by which ones are good targets for Extravagant Replication

either Extravagant Replication or Mechanized Production on their own are pretty devastating in this deck. Copying mana sources or any of the +1/+1 color rings in the deck will be rough for opponents to deal with, but if Portal to Phyrexia is in play, that's the obvious target.

There are a considerable amount of buffs for our commander, many of them are just to keep her alive, but the any one of the rings: Ring of Evos Isle, Ring of Valkas, Ring of Xathrid will cause Obeka to grow bigger than we need to win the game. With the right upkeep triggers on the field, Hatred can end the game outright. For example, with eight mana you can cast Court of Cunning, become the monarch, swing with Obeka and cast Hatred. Sac 10 HP and everyone mills 100 cards.

There are also a lot of ways to make her unblockable, Silent Arbiter + her Menace ability means she can't be blocked.

The deck doesn't rely too heavily on additional combat phases, but it does have a few cards to make that happen. The main line here is: Get Obeka kinda big, throw down something that will devastate the opponent's board and smack someone with her in that same turn. Because the deck is really looking to get a single big hit in, use Sneak Attack to put down something like Braids, Conjurer Adept, or Plargg and Nassari right before damage is dealt to get their triggers enough times to give you overwhelming value, then sac them at the end of the turn.

There are some interesting plays you can make around Jhoira of the Ghitu, remembering that you can wait to activate her until Obeka lands a hit.

Lastly, the deck as quite a bit of interaction, eleven cards of it. These should be used to stop imminent threats to your strategy. If someone puts down a Chandra, Awakened Inferno, have your response ready to remove it before you get an emblem that will make the game unplayable for you.
