Skyrider Patrol

Creature — Elf Scout

Flying

At the beginning of combat on your turn, you may pay . When you do, put a +1/+1 counter on another target creature you control, and that creature gains flying until end of turn.

The set Guilds of ravnica is going to be released soon :DD

And i can't wait to see what the meta game is going to become, the set looks amazing, love the all the new cards in the set

But something stirred within me when i thought about the core 19 multicolored uncommon and how "Much" synergies that there is in those cards...

Heroic Reinforcements = Gives you new mentor targets and pumps the whole team which is basically what you wanna do in a aggressive deck. See also Legion Warboss, Swiftblade Vindicator and Chance for Glory

Enigma Drake = the mechanic of the set is Jump-start which means that the spells got value after it lands in the graveyard, this gets better with for each spell in you're graveyard and there is also a "Better" version of this which also draws a card when it enters the battlefield a.k.a. Crackling Drake

Satyr Enchanter = green and white aka "Selesnya" have now in my opinion become the best enchantment pairing in standard. there is Seal Away, Ixalan's Binding, History of Benalia, Legion's Landing  Flip etc in Guilds of Ravnica there was Conclave Tribunal,Dawn of Hope and the best card in my opinion from the set Divine Visitation and a common support card in the set was Sumala Woodshaper..

Poison-Tip Archer and Psychic Symbiont seems to be the least synergetic of all the "Guild" pairings but Poison-Tip Archer synergies with the guild legendary Izoni, Thousand-Eyed and sometimes Vraska, Golgari Queen.

Psychic Symbiont has no synergies with "surveil" but it's the best mechanic in my opinion because of "card selecting" etc, this was a beast in it's limited format and it did what it was supposed to do which is to help the limited formate.

As for the other uncommons in Core 19..

Brawl-Bash Ogre = Either a sacrifice based mechanic or maybe morbid is going to return, i've thought about the mechanics "Madness" or "Hellbent" before this card, but who knows i haven't thought so much about this archetype..

Skyrider Patrol = +1/+1 counters have been a staple of the simic guild, there was "Evolve" in gatecrash and "Graft" in Dissension, what if there was a mechanic which activates when a creature gets a counter or a counter enter's "the battlefield" aka triggered ability for counter's..

Aerial Engineer = in the lore for the set, the Leader of the Azorius get's killed by Vraska, Golgari Queen as seen in the card Assassin's Trophy, maybe the Azorius will go in a new directions with thopter's as surveillance aka 1/1 flying artifact creture tokens, maybe there will be a "metalcraft" mechanic in the azorius which symbolises a new direction. See also Skilled Animator and Sai, Master Thopterist because synergi if it is a artifact theme.

Draconic Disciple = maybe "Ferocious" or "Formidable" because in the card Street Riot i feel like domri is rallying his clan into "anarchy mode" then this card pumps all you're creature's attack and it gives them trample..

Regal Bloodlord = this is pretty much "lifegain payoff.creature" Soo What if the Orzhov mechanic was something with lifegain such as "If you've gained life this turn, it does this" such as Nightmare's Thirst or maybe extort makes a return... :DDD, for instance i hope there will be more cards such as Dawn of Hope cause of it's lifegain clause and there is also Resplendent Angel, Ajani's Pridemate, Ajani's Welcome and Epicure of Blood which has synergies also ;)

Maybe i'm overthinking things but i really liked the uncommons from Core 19 and my favorite of the uncommons was Regal Bloodlord.

This is only my thoughts but i think it's fun to think and theorize about sets but if you all think i'm crazy then by all mean tell me why, i can stand by this but by all means change my mind.

I feel like 4 colours, and Atraxa of all cards might be a bit much, although it is nice and cheap so you wouldn't really be out of pocket huh. just from a brief look, there doesn't seem to be much initial counter placing. There's a lot of cards you have that give you benefits if you already have counters, but that's a win more scenario. But first thing's first, remove Manalith and add in Darksteel Ingot because it's the same thing..but indestructable, which can be incredibly useful. You look like you're lacking a bit of ramp and instead went for some minor draw power. Cultivate and Nissa's Pilgrimage are some good green ramp. You 100% need more lands, you should have a minimum of 35 lands, regardless of what the rest of your deck has. Skyrider Patrol can help with the counters. There are some Ajani planeswalkers that give you counters. She may be a bit pricey as well, but Vivien Reid could be a useful addition. You need more interaction with players, and I don't mean individual interactions. I mean "you all lose stuff" type of cards, like Austere Command and The Eldest Reborn. Something to think about with EDH specifically is the wincon. Are you planning on winning by just beating people down? If so, you need cards to support it, and protect your board state, which you don't seem to have enough of. Although if the people you are playing with have low powered decks, you might be fine, but I'm not sure. Mirari's Wake can also be rather useful. Now obviously you don't have to add all these cards, or do them all immediately, these are all just things to think about. Later on if you ever go down the path of money, there's Doubling Season to help with your counters. Skullbriar, the Walking Grave is also a good commander to use if you feel like 4 colours is too much. Again, not something you really need to consider right now, but good to think about for the future.

Do you have your collection of cards on tappedout? If so, looking through it I could give you some suggestions. One last piece of advice, don't be afraid to ask if you can use proxies. Depends on who you play with, you could proxy a decent amount of cards. I know my lgs lets people proxy up to 30 cards. So what I like to do, is put a piece of paper in my manalith card sleeves to say they are Darksteel Ingot, seeing as they are almost identical cards. Oh I lied, I have another piece of advice. Have fun with it. Embrace the format as a casual format for luls, experiment, and find out what everyone's ideas are (such as are they going to get more and more competitive, or just do random nonsense. Do they like control decks, do they hate them? etc).

I've been playing mtg less than you, so take my advice with a grain of salt, but hopefully it's all valid.

What are your thoughts about Skyrider Patrol? It adds some evasion and pumps your merfolks. The only thing I am concerned about is its CMC.

Dieball on Classic Simic deck - Comeback …

Hi everyone! I've recently started playing Magic again, after 12 years of break. My Trusty old Simic gathered a lot of dust, so I started to rebuild it using what I managed to get fast (and cheap). I wonder if it's any good and if anyone could provide any constructive feedback on what I should still change in it. I would greatly appreciete that. The card list is as below:

CREATURES:

4x Thrummingbird 1x Vigean Hydropon 3x Trygon Predator 3x Plaxcaster Frogling 1x Vigean Graftmage 2x Vorel of the Hull Clade 2x Skyrider Patrol 3x Cytoplast Manipulator 1x Simic Ragworm 1x Cytoplast Root-Kin 1x Momir Vig, Simic Visionary 1x Experiment Kraj

ARTIFACTS and SPELLS

2x Everflowing Chalice 1x Simic Charm 2x Essence Scatter 2x Voidslime 2x Give // Take 4x Blessings of Nature 2x Doubling Season

LANDS

5x Island 5x Forest 4x Simic Growth Chamber 2x Hinterland Harbor 3x Llanowar Reborn 1x Oran-Rief, the Vastwood 2x Temple of Mystery

Hey, nice start and if this is really your first deck, great job. You're already building a decent curve which is something that new players find hard to grasp right away.

Consider Thorn Lieutenant, Elvish Clancaller, Chart a Course, Skyrider Patrol, Hadana's Climb  Flip and Unclaimed Territory? Looks like you're a fan of Elves :) Currently Thorn and Clancaller are the best two drop Elves. Clancaller is an Elf lord (she gives all other Elves you control +1/+1) she brings the tribal synergies with Elves. She's also a mana sink with Marwyn's mana. For six mana and tapping Clancaller you can tutor for another Clancaller and put it right into play.

Thorn is also a mana sink with mana Elves can make, he can pump himself +4/+4 for six mana. Skyrider is another Elf, he has flying and he can give another Elf you control a +1/+1 counter as well as flying EOT (enter of turn).

Chart is a very good two drop draw spell when you're attacking. Draw two for two mana is good. Climb is one of the better cards to play with Elves if you're playing blue especially with Champion giving it flying and doubling it's power can be game winning. Climb and Skyrider are nice with Marwyn because they can put a counter on her. Territory is a good tribal land for Elves because it can be played turn one naming Elf and then be used to cast Llanowar. Turn two Clancaller or Champion. Turn three Champion or turn four Skyrider.

For the sideboard I suggest Negate (big reason to play blue with Elves), Blink of an Eye, Reclamation Sage, Vivien Reid, Crushing Canopy, Vine Mare, River's Rebuke, Pelakka Wurm, Aggressive Mammoth.

Consider this creature base with all Elf goodness:

  • 4x Llanowar
  • 4x Clancaller
  • 4x Thorn
  • 3x Cowl
  • 4x Champion
  • 3x Marwyn
  • 3x Skyrider

Consider this other spells base:

  • 1x Vivien Arkbow

  • 3x Impulse
  • 4x Chart
  • 2x Climb
  • 2x Song

I've been playing Elves in Standard for more than three years now. If you're interested check out my deck, Elves of Dominaria (M19). At my deck I go pretty in depth about Elves. The most exciting times are when spoilers are starting and a new Standard set is coming out which is happening soon.

Good luck with your deck.

I dont know. It blows away all the zombie tokens and can bounce planewalkers that have managed to tick up a bit but Sleep might be a better option against red black. River's Rebuke is great against white to get rid of all of their enchantments.

I saw another list similar to this that was also running Skyrider Patrol that seemed like a nice touch.
