Sarkhan's Dragonfire

Sorcery

Sarkhan's Dragonfire deals 3 damage to any target.

Look at the top five cards of your library. You may reveal a red card from among them and put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.

Ok here is my take on the budget side. TLDR: Land total and Ramp increased. A lot of subpar removal taken out, and better ones put in. Some cheaper dragons/shapeshifters added to smooth out curve and provide cheap dragon drops for commander ability. Most importantly is added some value for getting extra dragons from cards, either by creating tokens or playing them for free from hand/deck. Added in 3 additional wincons similar to Terror of the Peaks to make it easier to win just by populating board and swinging in. Note that the wincons also can serve as creature removal, which is why so many of the outs are instant/sorcery removals

If it's a casual deck then there are lots of things you can do. Before I start suggesting things, in the end this is your deck. So even if I say some things could be better according to my opinion, you should only pick those you aggre or that you think we'll make the deck more confortable to play with.

Again, first things first. You still need to trim it down to 65 cards. No decks, except for Battle of Wits ones but those are exceptions, run above than 60 cards. Having extra 5 cards will only make it harder to draw the cards you want.

One of the things I immediately would cut is Zirilan of the Claw . He isn't that budget friendly and rather slow as you have to pay 5 mana, wait one turn and then pay 3 mana to activate its ability.

Another one to cut would be Dragonmaster Outcast . I know he's very appealing to play with, but he's a few problem that will probably let you down some times. First, since you're playing monored you don't have any ramp, you'll need to rely on drawing lands every single turn while also having to draw and play him just to meet the requirements of his effects. Second, he's just a 1/1, so having him survive even a single turn can be really hard as he also doesn't have any form of protectio. Third and last, since you have Flame Sweep you would either restrain yourself from playing it to keep him alive or be forced into a situation that you would need to kill him alongside other creatures to survive.

Cutting one Drakuseth, Maw of Flames and one Verix Bladewing shoukld also be fine. They're ok cards but since they're legendary you'll be able to have more than on the field anyway. Also, casting Verix Bladewing without kicking would just make him basically a vanilla dragon, which wouldn't really impact the board. However, he can be a nice late game option.

Replacing the 3 copies of Sarkhan's Dragonfire and one copy of Dragonspeaker Shaman for something like Cathartic Reunion or Faithless Looting should help with consistency. The effect on the the Dragonfire is "nice" in conjunction with the damage but there are better damage and card advantage spells you can use. Dragonspeaker Shaman also isn't too budget friendly while being kinda easy to remove from the field, which would make the mana you spent useless.

It may not seem really useful to use cards like Cathartic Reunion or Faithless Looting since you wouldn't benefit much aside from digging through your deck. However, I ahve some things you could add to capitalize on the discard.

  1. Bladewing's Thrall - With spells that make you discard you wouldn't even need to run black mana in your deck, just discard them and as soon as one of your dragons comes into play you would get them all back. Also, Dragon Tempest would give them haste if you have a dragon in play.

  2. Dragon Scales - Depending on the dragons you choose to run, you could discard this and as soon as a dragon comes into play it would get a small buff and vigilance.

  3. Fledgling Dragon - This one wouldn't benefit from being discarded but would from filling the graveyard.

I'd like to see what you think about these before continuing.

OK so the deck glitched out and it didn't work out the way I wanted it to so I will just put in a comment of what I would do/suggestions. 1. You have too many lands. 30-35 lands is what you would look for in a deck. So I would cut down to 35 lands and use those 5 that you cut out to get ramp. I would put in Sol Ring , Kodama's Reach , Zendikar Resurgent , Commander's Sphere , and Urza's Incubator . 2. I would also get rid of the things that are giving you non-dragon creatures. So I would take out Goblinslide , Devils' Playground , Dragon Fodder , Dance with Devils . This is so that you can use cards like Vanquisher's Banner and Door of Destinies so that you can pump up your dragons and do more damage! 3. You have some creatures that are there just to be there. I would replace all non-dragon creatures other than Dragonmaster Outcast . Dragons that you can use to replace are; Lathliss, Dragon Queen , Savage Ventmaw , Utvara Hellkite , Scourge of Valkas , Hellkite Tyrant , Moonveil Dragon , and Thundermaw Hellkite . 4. Although your dragons can remove creatures you need to be able to deal with enchantment, artifacts, and you also have to protect your dragons as well! So I would remove Draconic Roar , Echoing Courage , Sarkhan's Rage , Savage Alliance , Stonefury , Bathe in Dragonfire , Devour in Flames , Make Mischief , Reduce to Ashes , Sarkhan's Dragonfire , Atarka Monument , Staff of the Flame Magus , Outpost Siege , and Retreat to Kazandu . You already have dragons doing damage when they Enter The Battlefield so I would take out instants or sorceries that are doing that. Plus I recommended taking out some of the ramp that you already had because there is better ramp. For removal I would suggest Beast Within , Naturalize , Decimate , Hull Breach , and Vandalblast . Now to protect your creatures I would add Heroic Intervention and Asceticism . 5. Last but CERTAINLY not least, MANA! Ok so I know I mentioned going down to 35 but even if you just take away 5 basic lands there are non-basics that I would take out that might fix you down to 35 and then I will give some recommended lands that might help. I would take out Crumbling Vestige , Gruul Turf , Looming Spires , Pinecrest Ridge , Quicksand , and Vivid Crag . I would put in Command Tower , Cinder Glade , Rootbound Crag , Mosswort Bridge , Spinerock Knoll , and Spire Garden . Ok so I know that is a LOT to take in but please take note that I am in no way a professional helper. This is all in my opinion and don't let me influence your playstyle. I am happy to answer questions if I can and I am here to help!

Hey man! This deck ain't bad! If I may give a few suggestions, I would consider dropping a few of the higher costing cards like the Banefire & the Sarkhan's Dragonfire since if you're trying to abuse the Dark-Dweller Oracle you probably want to be able to cast most everything you flip. I think the Spark of Creativity is a neat touch but tbh, I think it could go since if you lower the average mana-cost of the deck, at best it becomes like a sorcery speed bolt, but at worst, it just flips a land. I would maybe go for a playset of Goblin Instigator to make fodder for the Dark-Dweller Oracle. They also double as cheap pressure and blockers in a pinch, which I think the deck could use. If you do add the Goblin Instigator, I think a great addition to this deck would be Goblin Barrage. Doublecast could also be fun to copy a Goblin Barrage or a huge Fight with Fire. Anyways, good luck with the deck! Hope it works out. <3

Hi SoulsSlayerKnight! First thanks for your feedback, really appreciated that you went into details. I've checked out your deck and I'm really amazed that you manage to build a solid deck around all those badass tricolor dragons! Oh and I apologies in advance for my english but I'll do my best! :D

To be honest for Lathliss, Dragon Queen I'm quite new to Magic and didn't knew that two legendary creatures can't be onto the battlefield at once like Planeswalkers... So thanks for that and yeah I'll surely consider to cut one (even if I was so happy to pull a third one in few boosters hahaha). Then yeah you're right Demanding Dragon seems extremely powerful in my games, I'll try to add one or two more of them but don't you think that a fourth Verix Bladewing would fit better for his versatility as long as it helps to get an early dragon and it's still amazing in late game when kicked?

About the Dismissive Pyromancer, I placed them as sideboard but in my head it's more a maybeboard. I was thinking about replace the Kargan Dragonrider by them since the dragonriders doesn't add a lot to ramping.

For the Sarkhan's Dragonfire I think you may be right since tormenting voices and dragon's hoards would already do the job so when I'll get all my deck I'll try it out to be sure that I don't need it.

I'll try some changes following your advices but sadly I won't get the cards to complete the deck before mid september so it's still theory. Anyway, really appreciate the aid and you are welcome if you have any other tips and suggestions. Thanks a lot!

With the new 2019 core cards on dragons, aren't there some interesting choices to test? In particular Dragon's Hoard , Lathliss, Dragon Queen , Sarkhan, Fireblood and Sarkhan's Dragonfire .
