+ Commander's Sphere
+ Spark Double
+ Crowded Crypt
+ Letter of Acceptance
+ Izzet Locket
+ Rakdos Locket
+ Dimir Locket

- Ravenous Harpy
- Laurine, the Diversion

- Angrath, the Flame-Chained
- Jace, Ingenious Mind-Mage
- Undercity Informer
- Thoughtpicker Witch
- Claws of Gix
- Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded

Hey, Decanter of Endless Water isn't good in Meren. Shutting off being able to discard down to 7 card hand size takes away a good/no mana cost way to get creatures from your hand into your graveyard to setup reanimation/recursion. Instead for ramp choose a creature mana dork or a creature who land ramps?

You don't need Letter of Acceptance or Unstable Obelisk in Meren either since these aren't creatures. You don't get the value that you're looking for in Meren with noncreature artifacts. Instead choose a creature who can draw and a creature who can be removal?

I am now replacing Thran Dynamo and Gilded Lotus in the majority of my EDH decks, because of how expensive those decks are, and my Meren of Clan Nel Toth deck is next for being updated. I shall definitely be putting Decanter of Endless Water in the deck to replace one of those artifacts, but I am not certain about the other.

I am now choosing between Letter of Acceptance and Unstable Obelisk, since each of those artifacts has a secondary ability, beyond producing mana, and I would like to have the feedback of the other users on this forum; what does everyone else say about this? Which of those two cards should I put in my Meren deck?

Ok here is my take on the budget side. TLDR: Land total and Ramp increased. A lot of subpar removal taken out, and better ones put in. Some cheaper dragons/shapeshifters added to smooth out curve and provide cheap dragon drops for commander ability. Most importantly is added some value for getting extra dragons from cards, either by creating tokens or playing them for free from hand/deck. Added in 3 additional wincons similar to Terror of the Peaks to make it easier to win just by populating board and swinging in. Note that the wincons also can serve as creature removal, which is why so many of the outs are instant/sorcery removals

Maybe part of the disinclination to run 3 cmc mana rocks is that it takes an extra turn to be mana positive. Something like Letter of Acceptance which was mentioned will only start producing more than you spent on it on the fourth turn. So, it's not just slower to get on the field than something like Mind Stone but it also takes longer to net you mana and that's two different strikes against it.

Honestly, this might be an unpopular opinion, but I think mana rocks are overplayed in general. When you have turns where you don't use all of your mana, that initial investment into ramp is a wasted move. Ramp to quick combo in cEDH or something is obviously very powerful, but for a casual list I often wonder if spending mana on ramp is actually better than advancing your board and plan.

Rather than rocks I really like ramp effects like Enter the Unknown that is giving you card selection, maybe pumping a creature, and gets you back the mana you spent on the turn it comes in. It's situational, sure, but the times where it gets you an extra land untapped with upside, yep, that's pretty good.

DemonDragonJ you do know that literally every single 3+ CMC mana rock is unplayable outside of EDH, right? Honestly, so are most 2- ones. Mind Stone sees some Modern play, and so does Springleaf Drum I think, but for the most part "mana rocks" as it were are an EDH construct. Legacy and Vintage see some fast ramp in the form of Moxen and such, but they'd never be caught dead with a fuckin Letter of Acceptance. This discussion is purely for EDH.

TheBrandon- thanks dont know how I missed Thought Vessel since I play it in almost all of my PDH decks :)

Deltrixs- Thanks, I haven't been on top of updating my lists. Letter of Acceptance , all of the Diamonds and Spectral Searchlight have been added to the main. Pentad Prism is going to the maybe board since it doesn't produce mana forever. Powerstone Shard is already in and Prophetic Prism isn't really a mana rock. The signets are in the maybe board since they dont produce mana on their own but do ramp you by one.

Letter of Acceptance is a new pauper mana rock as well! Pentad Prism is good for mana fixing. Marble Diamond , Sky Diamond , Charcoal Diamond , Fire Diamond , and Moss Diamond are one of every color. Spectral Searchlight was recently reprinted as a common in Commander Legends.
