Reduce to Ashes

Sorcery

Reduce to Ashes deals 5 damage to target creature. If that creature would be put into the graveyard from the battlefield this turn, exile it instead.

OK so the deck glitched out and it didn't work out the way I wanted it to so I will just put in a comment of what I would do/suggestions. 1. You have too many lands. 30-35 lands is what you would look for in a deck. So I would cut down to 35 lands and use those 5 that you cut out to get ramp. I would put in Sol Ring , Kodama's Reach , Zendikar Resurgent , Commander's Sphere , and Urza's Incubator . 2. I would also get rid of the things that are giving you non-dragon creatures. So I would take out Goblinslide , Devils' Playground , Dragon Fodder , Dance with Devils . This is so that you can use cards like Vanquisher's Banner and Door of Destinies so that you can pump up your dragons and do more damage! 3. You have some creatures that are there just to be there. I would replace all non-dragon creatures other than Dragonmaster Outcast . Dragons that you can use to replace are; Lathliss, Dragon Queen , Savage Ventmaw , Utvara Hellkite , Scourge of Valkas , Hellkite Tyrant , Moonveil Dragon , and Thundermaw Hellkite . 4. Although your dragons can remove creatures you need to be able to deal with enchantment, artifacts, and you also have to protect your dragons as well! So I would remove Draconic Roar , Echoing Courage , Sarkhan's Rage , Savage Alliance , Stonefury , Bathe in Dragonfire , Devour in Flames , Make Mischief , Reduce to Ashes , Sarkhan's Dragonfire , Atarka Monument , Staff of the Flame Magus , Outpost Siege , and Retreat to Kazandu . You already have dragons doing damage when they Enter The Battlefield so I would take out instants or sorceries that are doing that. Plus I recommended taking out some of the ramp that you already had because there is better ramp. For removal I would suggest Beast Within , Naturalize , Decimate , Hull Breach , and Vandalblast . Now to protect your creatures I would add Heroic Intervention and Asceticism . 5. Last but CERTAINLY not least, MANA! Ok so I know I mentioned going down to 35 but even if you just take away 5 basic lands there are non-basics that I would take out that might fix you down to 35 and then I will give some recommended lands that might help. I would take out Crumbling Vestige , Gruul Turf , Looming Spires , Pinecrest Ridge , Quicksand , and Vivid Crag . I would put in Command Tower , Cinder Glade , Rootbound Crag , Mosswort Bridge , Spinerock Knoll , and Spire Garden . Ok so I know that is a LOT to take in but please take note that I am in no way a professional helper. This is all in my opinion and don't let me influence your playstyle. I am happy to answer questions if I can and I am here to help!

Gurmag Angler is great for this deck. It's sort of control, and control needs a finisher. Also useful would be Tragic Slip. Cut True-Faith Censer, your deck has 0 humans and there's no upside. Chainer's Edict and it's counterparts are helpful. Murderous Compulsion and Reduce to Ashes are utter trash. Dusk Legion Zealot and March of the Drowned are useful. You don't need many creatures. Basically cut all of them for the Zealot and the Angler. Hierophant's Chalice is some solid ramp. Increase the number of Shard of Broken Glass. Lastly, add Phyrexian Rager.

Thanks! I don't even know why everyone doesn't have a copy of this because the price is only $60,000! Even some Wicker Witch and some Reduce to Ashes are more expensive!

Okay, sticking to the budget idea:

In terms of the Maybeboard, I personally don't like Voldaren Duelist in constructed unless you're going all in on vampires - there're 4 drops which just synergise better - Smoldering Werewolf  Flip being the first that comes to mind. still a 3/2; flips for 4RR (earlier if you run/cast Waxing Moon which I personally would run as a four of in a werewolf deck) and when it's flipped, you essentially get a free Shock as an attack trigger. Removal at worst; game winner at best.

I'd also look at Twin Bolt over Dual Shot until it rotates out in september. it's 1 generic more, but it's more versatile in the current format.

Sideboard wise, Aim High is an odd one. I don't know how many hexproof fliers are in the format, but if you're running it as flier hate, Plummet or Clip Wings are both arguably strictly better cards. Not GOOD cards by any stretch, but I'd still plump for the kill spell over the buff any time. Lightning Axe, I'm not keen on, but can't think of what to sideboard in its place. bear in minc that without discard outlets, it's a 6 drop. Reduce to Ashes gives you the same damage for 5, and has the bonus of exiling it in a format where recursion is a pretty big thing. It's sorcery speed, sure; but realistically, are you ever going to be leaving 6 mana open going into your opponent's turn? if you're not, then you're way more likely to play it at sorcery speed, at which point, Reduce to Ashes becomes strictly better.

Now for the mainboard:

I'd be tempted to say ditch Rush of Adrenaline and replace it with Magmatic Chasm. Rush is super limited in its application. Combat tricks almost always go from 3/5 in draft, to 2/5 in sealed, to "there is always a better card to play here"/5 in constructed

I personally think you drop a Silverfur Partisan and an Uncaged Fury for two of the Hermit of the Natterknolls  Flip. Put the silverfur in the sideboard, and promote something from your maybeboard to your sideboard instead of the copy of uncaged fury

I'd also contemplate looking at Vildin-Pack Outcast  Flip over Wolf of Devil's Breach in your situation. the latter is good, but you really need to build around it for it to pay off -I'd go as far as saying that whoever was responsible for it in R&D and so on dropped the ball in making it a were/wolf. It screams out Madness synergy - whereas VPO gives you a beatstick which flips into a bigger beatstick which you can just dump mana into - card was probably MVP in the prerelease deck I ran it in.

Obviously Milage may vary with all of this, but that's the sort of stuff i would look at doing with it :)

I find Reduce to Ashes and Grip of Desolation quite ahead of your casting capability, as playing with 21 lands will require you to play fast and cheap spells. They'll be useless most of the time. Try to find faster and cheaper spells.

My 2 cents are Sludge Crawler and Transgress the Mind. Or maybe removal like Wasteland Strangler and Complete Disregard. No offense, but I don't see this deck very powerful without these cards. Looks like you need several pieces in order to abuse Void Attendant's ability

Thanks for the feedback Jaxis. I actually have added some Reduce to Ashes but have not updated the deck here. I also had Engulf the Shore, but it often was not worth playing due to a flood of mountains/non basic lands and a few islands. I like that Displacement Wave targets all permanents (even at the expense of my brain in a jar). I'll certainly give Engulf the Shore another shot though. Definitely a bonus that it can be cast via brain.

Thanks JohnnyBaggins. I actually never thought about it, but it could be really effective. It'd give you access to some nice spells like Languish to clear out fast creature heavy decks to make way for my horde of zombies. I'll make a Grixis deck and share it with you and do some play testing. Thanks for stopping by!

Since you're not paying the mana cost of the spells you cast with Brain in a Jar, I'd suggest dropping the X spells. Burn from Within won't hurt at all and Displacement Wave will only bounce tokens. I'd suggest Engulf the Shore and Reduce to Ashes to scale with the Brain's counters.
