Taking out some blue

perrin515, 11 years ago

Took advice below.

Removed Jace, Traumatize, and Counterspell (didn't realize it was not modern) and added Sorin, Lord of Innistrad and Mikaeus, the Lunarch.

Moved Render Silent to main deck

Playtest some with me, lets see where this goes

The problem with this deck is that it takes a while to set up some of the best combos. However, i found that if I have enough mana and creatures out, the extort ability keeps me alive long enough to survive. I have also found some cards that could aide with my ability to keep going. With Pestilence, I can damage everyone and all their creatures. The first of two major problems with this is if I do not have Exquisite Blood out I am in danger of killing myself. The other problem is if run the risk of taking my own creatures out. Thus if I add stuffy doll to the deck, I can keep creatures out AND hit players for even more points because they will get even more damage from stuffy doll. I am also considering drain life. For two mana to cast, plus an additional one swamp per life, I have the ability to gain life from an opponent and gain life. Batwing Brume and Ethereal Haze would be nice substitutes for my darkness/holy day. Ideas?

UPDATE #1

Agthor, 11 years ago

Deck description has also been updated.

I adjusted this deck with the cards I currently have. The sideboard is actually IN my mainboard at the moment to buff the card count above 60 cards. However, the cards in sideboard will make up the sideboard once I acquire the Boros Charmfoil and Simic Charm I need. In addition, a longer step to take to update again would be to aquire shock lands to replace the various guildgates I have in my land pool. Also, the maybeboard is used as a public acquireboard at the moment, and consists of cards that I am searching for to add or swap out in my mainboard.

Explanation:

I love the idea of charms in a sliver deck, and I hadn't thought of them as good defense before. Both Boros Charmfoil and Simic Charm will help keep my slivers up. I plan to put 2 of each in my mainboard, keeping 2 Ranger's Guile in the sideboard for playing against decks such as a red burn deck, which can easily counter a creature deck like this.

I balanced out my land acquiring spells such as Verdant Haven, as I hadn't done this prior to adding the guildgates into the deck. Lay of the Land was an old card used before I had guildgates to fix the wrong color mana problem, and was taken out completely. Chromatic Lantern is still a goal to replace Darksteel Ingot, I just don't have any at the moment.

Some somewhat useless slivers were removed from the deck, including Steelform Sliver. This sliver has saved me in the past but in testing, I draw much more useful cards now that I reduced my card count by taking him out. Progenitor Mimic was also swapped out due to it's slow build up time and higher mana cost. A regular Clone was put in it's place, as I find them still useful to increase your army's usefulness when used on a Predatory Sliver, Megantic Sliver, or an enemy card.

Means an update -- Switch out 2x Swamp and the Exsanguinate and Liliana's Shade (considering putting it back in for the Swamp tutor, not to mention it IS Liliana's...) for Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker, Unbreathing Horde, Crypt of Agadeem and Springjack Pasture.

I feel like it's ALMOST done! Any other ideas? Anyone??

And counting! This deck has become far more popular than I ever thought it would. It has also become far better, thanks to the TappedOut community who have helped me out a lot.

LGS results 2-2

Apoptosis, 11 years ago

Well, after using the Boros Reckoner/Blasphemous Act version of the deck at my LGS, I had mixed results going 2-2 for the night. Competition at my LGS is always very high and frankly the matches that I lost were mostly due to things like being land flooded. Also lost every die role and was never on the play first. I don't have my list of specific sideboard swaps between games in front of me now, and will revise that later. Here's the breakdown.

Match 1. 2-1 against Green aggro This was a very scary mono-green aggro deck with very explosive power, featuring things like Revenge of the Hunted. Game 1 my opponent was had to mulligan to 5, was stuck with two lands and was still able to do 15 damage on T3 to take me to 2 life. I was able to stabilize with Azorius Charm and Warleader's Helix, then stretch the game with counterspells until Boros Reckoner and Blasphemous Act sealed the game. Game 2, didn't draw the removal I needed and was killed pretty fast. Game 3, with the help of Celestial Flare out of the sideboard and a steady stream of removal/Azorius Charm and well timed Syncopate I was able to neutralize the big bombs that the deck threw at me, stabilize, and win handily .

Match 2. 2-0 against Bant hexproof/auras Game 1 he mulliganed to 5 and then was land flooded. I played conservative and didn't play Boros Reckoner until ~turn 6, when I was sure I could land him and still cast Dissipate. Boros Reckoner pounded him down along with some burn from Warleader's Helix. Game 2 he started with Strangleroot Geist(?) and resolved Invisible Stalker with two enchantments to make him a 5/5, followed with Voice of Resurgence. I bounced the geist with Azorius Charm while the stalker was still growing, then holding Snapcaster Mage and Blasphemous Act was able to flash Snapcaster Mage to block and kill voice, then used flashbacked Azorius Charm for card draw, allowing the spawned elemental tokens to reduce the casting cost of Blasphemous Act such that I could clear his board before the elementals could strike. Probably my best play of the night. Boros Reckoner and AEtherling arrived shortly thereafter and closed the game out.

It was downhill from there.

Match 3. 0-2 against Bant hexproof Played against one of the strongest players at my LGS, who is actually going to the Detroit PTQ and has actually won a PTQ. Both games he resolved Geist of Saint Traft on T2 after dropping a T1 Avacyn's Pilgrim, which I was unable to stop. I made some slight mistakes in my sideboarding and play G2. For instance, I didn't realize that I could use Celestial Flare after the declare of attackers, but before the angel comes into play (I had two in hand, but he always attacked with the pilgrim too and I only had 3W mana sources), so instead I was counterspelling the enchantments that he was trying to put onto geist. I resolved a Boros Reckoner, but he was able to cast Spectral Flight. I did bring in 3x Celestial Flare and Terminus, but my mistake was not sideboarding out Assemble the Legion and Turn / Burn (I can't remember exactly, but I took out Think Twice, tamiyo, and one Warleader's Helix - a screw up). I should have also brought in Detention Sphere to neutralize the enchantments, but we analyzed the game together and he agreed that there wasn't much I could do and G2 at the end I drew too many win-cons to soon (had 1 Assemble the Legion in hand and drew back to back AEtherling.

Match 4. 0-3 against Naya mid-range/aggro Guy went 4-0 on the night. My game 1 I kept a 5 land hand, with one Syncopate. He was on the play and went Cavern of Souls, Champion of the Parish, T2: Champion of the Parish, T3: Silverblade Paladin and I couldn't draw a wrath. Thought I was playing Naya Blitz and sideboarded for anti-aggro. Game 2 is a bit fuzzy: had to mulligan to 6. He went Cavern of Souls (human), Champion of the Parish, which I was able to burn with Turn / Burn. I forget what exactly happened next, but he did resolve a second champion, which I was able to kill with Ral Zarek, he then got out Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip, which I took out with Warleader's Helix and the wolf with Ral Zarek. I thought I was in good shape at that point, but he dropped a 2nd Cavern of Souls naming angel and resolved Sigarda, Host of Herons, who preceded to beat me in the face backed up with Kessig Wolf Run and bitch slapped my Restoration Angel who was trying to keep me alive. We played a game 3 for fun, since we decided before game 2 that we would get more packs if he conceded so we were both technically 3-1. Game 3 we were even for awhile where he had Mayor of A out and I had Boros Reckoner, I started with a 5 land hand, and he was using Gavony Township to pump. I was able to flash Snapcaster Mage with Slayers' Stronghold to kill a wolf spawned by the howlpack alpha and even kill him with a ?Warleader's Helix? (I forget). Anyway, I then went on to draw 5 consecutive lands in a row and died to a slow beatdown.

Thoughts: all in all not bad. Almost every player at my LGS is a regular player and there is rarely an easy matchup. Tamiyo, the Moon Sage didn't help and I think I had too many win-cons with 2x Assemble the Legion in the mainboard. I like what Boros Reckoner did for the deck and might tweak it a bit more. Alternatively, I might try out Ben Sparks American deck that did awesome at World's 2013 but with 2x Snapcaster Mage (I haven't seen Scavenging Ooze at my LGS, so I feel a bit more comfortable with 2-3x Snapcaster Mage). His build is closer to my other AEtherling deck AEtherling is Alright 8-14-13 version, but he had more burn in his. I haven't decided yet, but am picking up the cards I'll need to play it.

Thoughts are always welcome. Especially, ideas to make this deck a little better!

A four team, 2 headed giant brawl

DeathBySprnkles, 11 years ago

I can't remember every move, but around turn 10, I started having a nice "little" army of rats that consist of a Pack Rat with 2 copies of it, an Ogre Slumlord, a Marrow-Gnawer, and about 7 rat tokens with a Parallel Livesand Door of Destinies (with 1 charge counter on it) I was controlling. My partner had some card I can't remember besides the 2 crucial ones: Auriok Champion and Deathgreeter. So each turn, I tap Marrow-gnawer, Sacrifice a Rat, get a life from Deathgreeter, put out X (x2) 1/1 black rats and gain life for each new rat.

Fast forward: Two teams down, two to go. Team 1's creatures consisted of knights and soldiers with one soldier equipped with Pariah's Shield and the emblem for Elspeth, Knight-Errant third effect and 71 LP vs my massive swarm of rats (little over 30,000) and over 29,000 LP (lost a few thousand life thanks to Batwing Brume)

The battle pretty much ended in a draw. You really can't win if you can't do damage to a player if all the damage goes to one indestructible creature or go up against 30,000 creatures with 29,000 life. There is debate about a card combo but we won't know if it would because it didn't happen and there might of been some spell counters and deck would of taking a while because everybody still had a least 40 cards in their decks even after playing for 3 hours

3-1 TNM 4th place

DjinnjerVitis, 11 years ago

Went 3-1 (4th place tied) with this. My only loss was game 1 to a Naya brew featuring Kalonian Hydra Thragtusk Restoration Angel.....i went 1-2

Game 2 - 2-0 American Flash

Game 3 - 2-0 Orzhov Extort mirror (he uses the instant win combo)....and didn't run Blood Baron of Vizkopa.....enough said.

Game 4 - 2-0 Selesnya Brew featuring Mayor of Avabruck  Flip and Angelic Overseer....never saw his wincon, as Blood Baron of Vizkopa and Archangel of Thune did their thing.

For just a bunch of cards I threw together it runs pretty well. But I've gotten some other cards that are coming to have more slivers in it. I've played quite a few games last night with my Fiance and won all but one within turn 5 or 6. Which though that is pretty bad for most sliver decks its the target of what I was aiming for.

Quite Final Version

k1rbz, 11 years ago

My old deck was build around Wild Beastmaster coupled with cheap to non-cost creatures for very fast gameplay and one strike wins.
This new version is running a little less lands but instead of 4 mana generators, it comes with 8 (Birds of Paradise & Llanowar Elves).
I also dropped the good ol' beastmaster and with him the Burning-Tree Emissary because his combo potential went with the beastmaster, instead i decided to run Strangleroot Geist because he is quite removal resistent and Skinshifter because he can adapt to different situations perfectly.

This is also a post rotation build. Would 1 Chandra, Pyromaster fit well into this? If so what would the swap out be? I also had a pair of Boros Reckoners in there but they seemed too slow to get out each time I had them in hand

Updated changes to deck — Aug. 21, 2013

SuperEntity, 11 years ago

After playtesting at home I noticed that the Warden Of Evos Isle enabled my deck to play my flyers much earlier in the game and the Nephalia Seakite was a very effective surprise in all games that I drew it from the library. Also the Cancel worked well as cheap, effective removal and helped to keep the right tempo in play. Plus I was finding my hand was to full some times to use my Opportunity's so have removed one to make way for a forth Warden Of Evos Isle. So I have added the following - 1x Nephalia Seakite 1x Cancel And removed completely 1x Opportunity 2x Water Servant Will add my scores at FNM this Friday

-2 Memoricide +4 Go for the Throat

The addition of Go for the Throat helps remove creatures as they hit the battlefield, something I had let go unnoticed.Memoricide performs the same duty as Slaughter Games so I feel it will not be sorely missed.

I am still in great consideration of Extirpate and Surgical Extraction but I feel that with this deck is better off neutralizing threats that have not hit the graveyard yet. Despite the extra mana cost of Slaughter Games compared to them, I feel that it is still far more effective and can target a larger number of cards in a library.

Changed 2 Witchstalker for 2 AEtherling, haven't tested the deck yet, so i don't really know if it is a good idea.
