This deck is inspired by the article on channel fireball named "Choosing Equity Over Equality: A New Way To View Group Hug in Commander" which shows a new way to do a group hug deck to make in my opinion a true group hug deck. Group hug in its very core is a way of playing that benefits everyone playing, but a real group hug is one that benefits everyone to an equal degree. Which is where a format like commander makes group hug such a finicky thing to accomplish. Say you give everyone ramp and card draw, the person running a Kozilek, the Great Distortion will benefit from that much more than someone running say your standard Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon deck. If you have ever had a group hug like an actual hug, it feels better if the hug is actually dispersed evenly amongst the group rather than some people on the outside not getting the same type of hug.

So, this deck focuses mainly on buffing the weakest player up to a point where if they are behind on say cards, mana, life, or anything really you can bring them back up into the game to work down the scariest player of the game. However, this deck is a politics heavy deck which does suffer in 1v1s due to the fact you cannot manipulate people and play the board, so this deck is an attempt to create a group hug deck that focuses on Equity rather than Equality. This letting you pick who lives and who dies, who wins and who loses.

Currently I am looking for combos to throw in, and cards to remove. Because currently the deck is struggling in wincons, and emphasis on the group hug mechanic of it to make it a more fair game for everyone rather than just give some of the stronger players more mana, cards, etc.

Current Combos

1) Sunforger

  • You need the following cards in play Sunforger, Mistveil Plains, and finally Platinum Angel. If you need to find them Mistveil can be found with Tithe. Sunforger and/or Platinum Angel can be found with Enlightened Tutor while Platinum Angel can also be found with Eladamari's Call
  • Use Sunforger to find and use Chance for Glory then using Mistveil Plains put Chance of Glory on the bottom of your library, then repeat it on your next turn, and every turn after that. If Platinum Angel is ever removed use Angel's Grace to prevent losing, and then get the combo going again however you can or resort to other infinite turn combos you can possibly get going.
