The Benevolent Rulers of Meletis

Commander / EDH Budget Casual

This is my Virtues deck designed around art, flavor and general feel of the cards for what hopefully is a fun deck to pilot and to play against. There's an enchantment and a hint of toughness-matters subtheme, but it's mostly a political deck using the natural grouphug nature of the commander to dissuade people from focusing you. Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis are actually really good at providing card advantage without bringing too much attention if you can manage to always play a land in addition to drawing a card (hence the inclusion of cards like Khalni Gem and Wildfield Borderpost along with the appropriate bouncelands).

Another important thing is that the deck is mostly WG and the manabase reflects that. As surprising as it might seem, I hardly ever have trouble finding my colors due to the ramp package, but its first turns are usually a bit slow.

Designed for a pretty casual playgroup and super budget-friendly, I aimed to make it able to respond to most threats and become "the savior" without sacrificing its ability to win.

Key cards are Assault Formation, Sigil of the Empty Throne and Myth Realized which are win conditions and should be protected.

Most cards represent virtues to aim for like Hushing Griff (Serenity), Alms Collector (Generosity), Angel of Jubilation (Morality), Eidolon of Rhetoric (Patience) and Selfless Squire (Altruism) help you slow down the game to give everyone a fair chance.

Bounty of the Luxa along with all the land auras represent gifts from the gods. Heliod, God of the Sun (even though he's a bastard in the story), Karametra, God of Harvests and Kefnet the Mindful were my choices for a trinity.

Ground Seal stops a lot of graveyard shenanigans and Karmic Justice helps you keep playing the righteous one while Bonds of Mortality (Memento Mori) keeps the game fair (also a great negotiation tool). Mystic Barrier, Sphere of Safety and Spear of Heliod act as an extra protection layer.

The removal package also tries to be flavorful with Forsake the Worldly, Banishing Light, Blessed Reincarnation, Valorous Stance (underrated card), Oblation, Swords to Plowshares, Revoke Existence and Seal of Cleansing. The boardwipes chosen were The Great Aurora, Hour of Reckoning, Fell the Mighty and Dusk/Dawn, all of which have the potential of giving us an edge in the game.

The enchantress package is pretty light Eidolon of Blossoms, Mesa Enchantress, Satyr Enchanter but drawing cards shouldn't be difficult with the deck.

Angelsong might seem dumb, but a fog effect can save you (or someone else) on a pinch and if not needed you can always cycle it. Abundance provides protection from mill and Open the Vaults, Seasons Past, Sigil of the New Dawn and Emeria Shepherd act as recursion.
