Oathsworn Giant Discussion

Gidgetimer on Cheating with Avatar of Slaughter

There is also always the option to just give your creature vigilance via Akroma's Memorial, Always Watching , Angelic Field Marshal, Angelic Skirmisher, Brave the Sands, Heliod, God of the Sun, Oathsworn Giant, or Serra's Guardian (there were more of those than I anticipated and not all are good, but i was committed by the time i realized how many there were.

Deck seems to want built in Jeskai, so I suggest Ruhan of the Fomori at the helm.

I would definitely up the mana base to 35-36 lands, 36 is what usually works best in my opinion.

I've noticed a few Counterspells, and these are some I really love: Render Silent, Insidious Will, Cryptic Command, and Plasm Capture. There's also Mana Drain and OG Counterspell if you are willing to pay.

I've got my own Arcades deck if you want to take a look. One of my best decks I've made, it operates around Aggro-control. Basically you just don't let your opponents play stuff and swing in with some powerful walls.

(My deck can also give you ideas on how you want to construct your mana base)

Vigilance is also powerful in Arcades, the Strategist. With this you can use cards like Akroma's Memorial, Brave the Sands, Oathsworn Giant, and some others that can be found in my deck.

Good luck building your deck!

LOL for not even trying with the description.

Masako the Humourless is a nice idea; did you consider Oathsworn Giant?

If you are going to use flicker synergies and run both Mentor of the Meek and Lifecrafter's Bestiary you may want to include Panharmonicon for added triggers.

Please comment on my decks, I want feedback!

Firstly fix your shit friend, you need to get these cards real cause arcades works on this site. Also Wave of Reckoning, Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa, Shalai, Voice of Plenty, Oathsworn Giant, Spidersilk Armor, Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive

Xynarth,

Slagwurm Armor:I like the card, but the problem is I'd have to take a card out, any idea what card(s) I should take out?

Oathsworn Giant:It is a nice anthem effect, but since it is on a creature it'll get removed easily. I'd rather play an enchantment or artifact.

Forbidding Watchtower: Definitely! I love myself some flavor!

Geist of the Archives: Depends if I'll find a wall to take out.

Sight of the Scalelords:This is what I meant with the oathsworn giant. Nice card.

Forgotten Ancient: But he doesn't have defender though.

Conjurer's Closet: Nice! I'll think I'll replace Brago, King Eternal with this one.

Verdant Sun's Avatar: I already have this one in the form of Angelic Chorus.

Belligerent Brontodon: It doesn't let creatures with defender attack though, which both arcades and Assault Formation do.

Bramble Sovereign: I already thought about this one, but it will depend if I want to spend the money on it.

The list is a lot larger than I had first intended it when I wanted to comment... Anyway, seeing as how I'm thinking of building an Arcades myself, I thought I'd share some cards of interest !

Wall of Junk (card draw)

Living Wall (resilient)

Quicksilver Wall (card draw)

Dragon's Eye Sentry (1 drop)

Wall of Mulch (card draw)

Wall of Kelp (card draw + more creatures)

Wall of Resistance (can become huge)

Amaranthine Wall (resilient)

Hornet Nest (token generator, can then use the 1/1 deathtouch flying as chum blockers, to be explored I think)

Builder's Blessing (anthem effect)

Tower Defense (potential wincon)

Slagwurm Armor (just makes things bigger)

Solidarity (wincon)

Bar the Door (wincon)

Oathsworn Giant (anthem effect)

Forbidding Watchtower (flavor)

Geist of the Archives (card advantage)

Sight of the Scalelords (anthem)

Forgotten Ancient (another big guy)

Conjurer's Closet (flicker triggers)

Verdant Sun's Avatar (life gain)

Belligerent Brontodon (another Assault Formation)

Bramble Sovereign (more ETB effects, tokens are permanent which is very nice. Also, if paired with Panharmonicon, you can pay 1G twice, and potentially draw up to six cards. Could be explored, imo)

Let me know if any of this helps you or not :)

Nice take on the Walls tribal.

Personally I would lose the 4 tutors to make room for more card advantage and selection, like Edric, Spymaster of Trest, Sylvan Library, Abundance or Bident of Thassa.

The Bident also forces your opponents to attack, which is nice if you have one of your Vigilance enchantments out. If Vigilance is a big thing for you, you may want Oathsworn Giant in there, the extra toughness is quite synergic with the theme.

You make a compelling point about Wakestone Gargoyle, how did I not notice that? I am taking it out of my build.

Bxbx Thank you for your suggestions. I haven't had the feeling that I may have too many lands on my hand, yet. But I will definitely pay more attention to this issue during my next games! I'm very torn because of Wall of Kelp. Like plasmor99 said. it isn't a bad card but it never brought me any value ehen I tested it. I'll probably give it some more chances.

Darkshadow327 Thank you for your suggestions. That's why I have Masako the Humorless in the Deck. She gives great value for her cmc and also has flash. I've removed Oathsworn Giant from the list due to his high cmc but he will probably make a return some day. Also maye one of the enchantments you suggested. Dazzling Ramparts is also not in here because of it's high cmc, but I'll add it to suggestions. Bant Charm is a great card as you mentioned it and I would also advise it to everybody, but we agreed to not use cards like this who put Commander on the bottom of our Decks in our playgroup. I'll add it to the primer though.

manticoreknightThank you for your suggestions. I haven't been in the situation where I couldn't have countered a critical boardwipe. But I will keep your cards in mind!

goblinguiderevealplsThank you for your suggestions. There aren't many flying creatures in my playgroup, that's why I didn't add Spidersilk Armor and rely only on the defenders with flying. I don't use normal "tribal" cards like Urza's Incubator, Kindred Discovery or Herald’s Horn because only around half the creatures with defender are Walls. I wouldn't get that much out of the cards, being mostly a semi-dead card. As you are darwing a lot of cards and due to the low mana costs of defenders and the other cards in general, I renounced of the mana artifacts since I never had a lot of trouble. But I'll add Sylvan Caryatid to the primer under the "Fast Mana Base" tab, since I overlooked her and it's a great suggestion.
