Oathsworn Giant Discussion

Razulghul on Born for War

Hey, I'd suggest the following:

Cut: Deploy to the Front, Oathsworn Giant, Tajic, Blade of the Legion, Temple of the False God, Assemble the Legion, Relentless Assault, Launch the Fleet.

These are all pretty lackluster or too slow in my experience.

Add: 2-3x Mountain(maybe Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx/High Market/Kor Haven), Lightmine Field, Repercussion, Mind's Eye, Scroll Rack and Starstorm.

Your probably going to be hurting on draws, Mind's Eye and Scroll Rack(w/Land Tax) really help. The lands id say should be at 34 minimum, the other stuff just synergies with your commander.

Hope it helps!

In my experience, banding works best if you can pair it with First Strike (so that lots of little creatures banded together can outfight any larger creature without having to trade) and Vigilance (so your big scary band can attack unopposed but still block.)

You might find stuff like Knighthood, Brave the Sands, Archetype of Courage and Oathsworn Giant will come in handy for making your banders harder to deal with.

When I see an 8CMC card like Sandwurm Convergence, my first thoughts are to compare it to borderline win cons like Insurrection or an overloaded Cyclonic Rift. The Convergence is not going to give you that kind of power, so I would cut it. There are plenty of cards in your maybeboard you could swap in, or maybe you could go for Archetype of Courage, Archetype of Imagination, or (following the advice of gonki regarding Vigilance) Oathsworn Giant.

Anguished Unmaking is better than Grim Contest. Unconditional- hits any nonland permanent. Opponent about to combo off with Sanguine Bond or Exquisite Blood? Not an issue, for 3 mana and 3 life, you just exiled one of them with the trigger on the stack, halting the combo in its entirety. Exile, hits more permanents, and it doesn't require you have a creature on board first. It's extremely good, and I don't recommend you go without it.

Aura Shards- you have 30 creatures. Extremely strong, as most artifact/enchantment based decks can't combo out or establish while it's on the board. It would do you a lot better than, say, Angelic Chorus, which is just life gain on casting a creature (you have Ikra and Trostani for this, you don't need more).

Get rid of the Angel's Feather, Demon's Horn, and Wurm's Tooth. They're terrible cards that aren't worth the slots they're taking up, as 1 life per spell of a specific color is slow, mediocre life gain in comparison to even Soul Warden in a 4 person Commander game. You can do better with those slots, like running Swords to Plowshares to actually kill the things that hurt you so you don't have to deal with them again.

Tree of Perdition is better than Kami of Old Stone, who is a vanilla meh creature. You can make it a 0/40 and drop someone to 13 immediately- it's a pretty solid card.

Treefolk Harbinger isn't bad. Low cost, and tutors up things like Sapling of Colfenor, Indomitable Ancients, or even Lignify, if you ran it.

Tower Defense is better than Corrosive Gale in this deck. +5/+5 and reach is great on the defense, but a +5 attack buff for only two mana is huge when you're attacking.

I would get rid of all of your +0/+3 equipment and run global buffs, like Oathsworn Giant or Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite who gives +2 and in the case of the former, vigilance to all of your creatures, not just one.

Wave of Reckoning is a Doran staple. Run it for sure, as it's basically a one sided board wipe with high toughness dudes.

I wouldn't exactly call this competitive, and you have a lot of room for improvement. Hopefully this helps you a little bit toward your goal though.

Ikra Shidiqi, the Usurper is necessary since it opens you up to lifegain. Indomitable Ancients is a no-brainer. Tree of Perdition is hilarious. Sapling of Colfenor is really nice for what it does.

Treefolk Harbinger.

Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa.

Tree of Redemption.

Behind the Scenes.

Oathsworn Giant.

Wakestone Gargoyle.

Trostani, Selesnya's Voice.

Anguished Unmaking, Swords to Plowshares, Putrefy, Krosan Grip, etc are necessary removal. There's a lot you can add if you don't focus it into being Wall tribal. I would want to fully utilize Doran.

Hey PartyJ

I really like Meekstone. Recently got my masterpiece and I haven't had time to play it enough. Also it's not affecting Elesh Norn because she have Vigilance. Oathsworn Giant and Brave the Sands also get my creatures Vigilance. Never really have devotion for Heliod, God of the Sun :(

I agree with you on the card draw. But not Rishkar's Expertise, because I have all low power creatures. And I have many removals... I probably need to cut some. But they are all good. Probably Vindicate because it's Sorcery but I would like to add Maelstrom Pulse... Didn't tried Jeskai Barricade but I've played with Village Bell-Ringer and Affa Guard Hound. Flash creatures were nice but one-time use only and they were not helpful when I don't have anything in play.

Thanks again for the correction. Wow. Totally missed that one. I'm french and I'm not used to write in english that much.
