Mayael the Anima EDH

Commander / EDH RGW (Naya)

mattzim666

The point behind this deck is to get massive, hard to stop creatures out with Mayael the Anima's ability. The deck can still function without her ability, but it will slow the deck down tremendously.

Some good cards that help protect Mayael the Anima, even though they would typically come out after her, are: Sigarda, Host of Herons, Cavern of Souls, Avacyn, Angel of Hope, Vigor, and the enormous attackers/blockers this deck has to offer.

There are a few cards that pair up really extremely well in this deck, which would be:

a) Mayael the Anima + Seedborn Muse. This creates a very deadly combination, especially in multiplayer games, which this deck is more geared for.

b.) Avacyn, Angel of Hope + Sigarda, Host of Herons. This is mainly against black decks that have a lot of sacrifice (Thraximundar, Ghave, Guru of Spores, Karador, Ghost Chieftan, etc). However, the only way to deal with these two cards out at the same time is with single target exile spells/boardwipes. These two have proven to be deadly when out together.

c.) It That Betrays + any other Eldrazis. This allows you to continuously beat down your opponents via annihilator, while also making yourself more powerful with their artifacts, creatures, enchantments, lands (which help with Mayael the Anima's ability), etc.

This deck has proven to be an extreme threat in any form of multiplayer games. The deck isn't overwhelmingly quick, but people tend to ignore the deck due to early game decks that cause threats.

This deck is also labeled as one of the most powerful decks and is also seen as a concern with others in my playgroup, since there is not as much destruction in the group.

*Note: I know there are cards out there that can make this deck more powerful, like: Iona, Shield of Emeria, Tooth and Nail, etc., but this deck is mainly for fun!
