King Macar's Fleet Vehicles (~$25)

Commander / EDH Budget Casual Mono-Black Vehicle

[Budget $25, commander inclusive, basic lands exclusive]

I built this deck as part of a budget build challenge with a few of my buddies and purchased the entire mainboard (excluding basic lands) at our local card shop for $25, even. This was my first experience building on a budget and I find that it made me re-evaluate the usability of niche card abilities. For this deck, I chose crew. When I first saw vehicles, I thought it seemed completely unnecessary. I mean, why tap 1+ creature(s) I control to attack with a vehicle when I could just attack with the original creature? However, when I started doing research for this deck and found King Macar, the Gold-Cursed I realized that the crew mechanic could be abused into providing a ton of extra value with tap/untap activated support cards. At approximately $0.50, Macar is no slouch, hence he takes the commander role of this mono-black, heavy-removal build.

Between Treasure tokens, Gold tokens, the explore ability, a handful of mana dorks (Leaden Myr, Palladium Myr, Cultivator's Caravan), and even a Sol Ring which is increasingly rare in budget builds, this deck mana ramps reasonably well. Even still, if the mana isn't flowing abundantly, most of this deck's biggest creatures can be played for far less mana than their CMC, or even for free, with the right field because of their abilities (Metalwork Colossus, Myr Enforcer, Dross Golem). And those that can't be played on a discount are super high value (Demolition Stomper, Darksteel Juggernaut, Shambling Suit). Aside from King Macar, the Gold-Cursed, another excellent crew member is Scaretiller which helps fix mana issues and can even bring back lands that you may have discarded to fuel Tomb Robber's exploration ability. In addition to the heavy removal, I've opted to include a number of spells that provide power buffs and lifelink such as Butcher's Glee, Unexpected Fangs, and Grotesque Mutation because who doesn't love having more than 40 life? Also, I have to give a shout out to Cabal Paladin and Etched Champion for being just plain cruel in an artifact-heavy deck. Remove threats on your opponents' boards that you don't want to run-off-the-road with Murder, Doom Blade, Snuff Out, Tidy Conclusion, and Ob Nixilis Reignited.

Overall, for being a budget deck, I think there is a lot of synergy between the parts here and I'm really excited to see what other budget contraptions I can come up with!
