Turns out all it takes to make a competitive deck in commander to start off is Fblthp, some fast mana, and proteus staff. Counters are really optional but help a lot. I heard about this deck from the cEDH decklists website and would recommend that site to anyone looking into getting more competitive in commander.

This deck through uses the commanders ability and the main card, proteus staff. When you use the staff on the commander it first puts Fblthp on the bottom of the deck, reveals cards until you find him again, and then you get to draw two cards since he entered from your library. However, the best part of this exchange is that proteus staff allows you to put all the cards reveals back in ANY ORDER. This allows you to stack your deck in any way and then draw two. THis usually ends with some combination of gush, dramatic/scepter combo, and blue sun's zenith to go infinite and cause your opponents to draw their decks.
