(SpellCastEDH) Kairi The Swirling Sky v2 SKYCLONE

Commander / EDH Clone Counterspell Infinite Combo Mono-Blue

Kairi, the SkyClone v2.0 (Swirling Sky Perfected)

This deck seeks to make use of (abuse*) the legendary rule, and blue's overabundance of clones, to dominate the game. Kairi is blessed with two very powerful death triggers, and with clones it can be very easy to make use of those triggers numerous times each turn. Kairi's first death trigger allows you to bounce any number of target nonland permanents with TOTAL casting cost 6 or less to their owner's hand. We'll use this to obliterate any creature tokens on the field (tokens that aren't copies of permanents have a CMC of ZERO, so you can bounce ALL of them with one of these triggers), and any problematic permanents that are lurking. Kairi's second trigger has us mill six cards and then return up to two instants and/or sorceries to our hand. It's not uncommon to rush this guy into play on turn 2 (I've had him on the table as early as turn 1), and the Ward 3 keeps away pesky early removal, the bounce ability helps us control the board, and the mill ability helps us get to the cards we need.

The deck can mill itself with a combination of Kairi, a clone spell (not one of the clone creatures), and Ghostly Flicker/Turnabout. Jace, Wielder of Mysteries, Thassa's Oracle and Laboratory Maniac are there to achieve the win in such a scenario. When you clone Kairi with a clone spell, you can mill six then return that clone spell to your hand. If you have one of the untap spells (Ghostly Flicker/Turnabout), and enough mana, you can repeat this process infinitely. If you use one of the clone spells that make more than 1 copy of Kairi (Rite of replication, Replication technique, Tempt with Reflections), you can bounce every opposing CMC <= 6 permanent on the table AND still mill yourself.

Very often this deck wins by locking out our opponents with repeated casts of Cyclonic Rift, Time Warp and a clone spell. One of our most important spells in the deck is Recall. It's the only spell I could find that is mono blue, is an instant/sorcery, and can return any card type from the graveyard to my hand. In an ideal scenario, you'll be cloning Kairi several times per turn, until you assemble the cards you need to win. During this process you will, most likely, mill your win-con (Laboratory Maniac/Jace/Thassa's Oracle) and will require a way to return them to your hand. Hence, Recall.

All in all, a very unassuming commander. Sneaky powerful coupled with the fact that its mono blue, everyone else at the table plays fearful of the ever-lurking counterspell (of which there are many). Be sure to keep hold of Disallow and/or Tale's End to ensure your graveyard doesn't get Bojuka Bog'd. Happy Cloning!
