pod pod

POD: Planet of Death (titled simply POD in North America) is a futuristic racing game for Windows released by Ubi Soft in 1997. The game is set in the distant future on the planet Io. A mining accident unleashes a fungus[1] from within the planet on its inhabitants, causing widespread panic. After most of the population escapes the planet, a few survivors remain on Io, with only one ship remaining. The survivors soup up cars which they race in tournaments, the winner of the final tournament taking the last ship and escaping to safety, leaving the others to die. The music was produced by Daniel Masson.[2]

As pointed out by AdNauseam12, I cannot use Gleancrawler in this deck. He has been swapped for Body Double which improved the pod chains significantly.

jmax12 had a point that there are a lot of untappers. I had 3 of them in the 3-cost slot. Pestermite was removed for Platinum Angel to bolster the end of a combo turn-- why not, right? Another 7-cost CMC also helped the pod chains finish out and the creature its self is just gravy.

Vorapede has been swapped for Arboretum Elemental which allows more flexibility when podding out the higher end of the CMC. The hexproof is nice for keeping him alive and if he isn't necessary for podding, he can lay dormant and just be an extra big body-- like a big, green insurance policy.

Golgari Grave-Troll was swapped for Phyrexian Metamorph for more land fetch in combo and more flexibility overall. jmax12 correctly pointed out that despite all the recursion, dredge is not where this deck wants to be.

Clone Shell was swapped for Acidic Slime because removal.

Somewhere between revisions, I accidentally my Sol Ring. Fix'd. To accommodate this, Skullclamp was moved to the sideboard. In playtesting, card draw was rarely an issue. In early turns, the mana felt better spent elsewhere. That said, skullclamp is an amazing card that has its uses. It will remain on the side board-- especially since this deck is equipped to tutor it out if need be and it definitely fits the theme.

MaltOMeal pointed out Sylvan Primordial is BANNED. It was too good to be true. Therefore, lookout fleets! Scourge of Fleets is in the building!

Who needs Elvish Piper in this deck when Summoner's Egg is a thing????

Added in Archetype of Endurance. If the deck needs to pod Protean Hulk, it needed a good creature to land on that would retain that high cmc on the board. AoE not only does that for its self, but for everything else too. This is a creature-based version of one of my favorite EDH cards, Asceticism. Nerf Theros block.

BrainGamer suggested I try out Dryad Arbor. I like this card because it also allows the creature fetch to enable land fetch. Not bad at all for hitting those land drops.

Adjusted sideboard to include cards for a lower CMC, more-consistent chain and a pretty basic combo kill via Peregrine Drake, Deadeye Navigator, and Mindshrieker.

This revision: Kozilek, Butcher of Truth is overkill. Strictly out of wanting to not lose friends, he has been removed for Chord of Calling. Maybe Perplexing Chimera would be fun?

Taking out Kozilek made Arboretum Elemental unnecessary. Swapped for Glen Elendra Archmage for stronger early chain plays.

Perhaps my favorite new additions to the deck: Glacial Chasm, Burgeoning, Green Sun's Zenith. I've been lazy about updating this as I make changes. Ma b.

While playtesting, I found something I had never realized. Another way this deck goes infinite is with Minamo, School at Water's Edge / Wirewood Lodge when combined with Deadeye Navigator and Peregrine Drake/Palinchron. Goodbye Tooth and Nail, hello Expedition Map! It was already consistent before I even realized this but now we're golden!
