PRIMER

Emiel the Blessed is filled with a lot my favorite and most sentimental cards since I started playing in the fall of '96. In the beforetime, I played a lot of Legacy Survival and GW Legacy Maverick, and this deck has a lot of that built into it with its toolbox engine and combo finish.

Gameplan

The gameplan is to set up an early value engine, blinking creatures to get extra draw and ramp triggers. The creature tutors are then used to control dangerous elements with our silver bullets, blinking them as necessary for extra triggers. The endgame is a combo finish usually involving Emiel the Blessed + Felidar Guardian + Gaea's Cradle or Felidar Guardian + Preston, the Vanisher, netting infinite mana. Once you have infinite mana, use Finale of Devastation *f-etch* to attack with a hasty team, or White Plume Adventurer to Undercity your opponents to death.

Rule Zero Substitution

My play group has a house unban for Primeval Titan, which can be traded out for a Smothering Tithefoil for untrusted play.

Felidar Guardian

Emiel the Blessed + Felidar Guardian + Gaea's Cradle creates infinite green mana. You want to use the mana to blink any of the Wall of Blossomsfoil variants or trigger The Great Henge variants to draw your library, then funnel it into Finale of Devastation *f-etch* or White Plume Adventurer to win the game. There are lots of avenues to get there.

Felidar Guardian + Restoration Angel creates infinite ETBs. It takes a third card to net gain here: Earthcraft nets infinite colored mana; The Great Henge, Guardian Project, or Soul of the Harvest net infinite draw.

Felidar Guardian + Preston, the Vanisher can also be used to create infinite mana. Felidar needs to ETB through either blink, reanimation, or creature tutor to the battlefield, but once there Preston, the Vanisher sees Felidar and creates a 0/1 white illusion copy. The copy targets the original Felidar with its ETB blink trigger, and the loop is infinite. Each time the OG Felidar gets blinked, you can target a mana source and tap it before it LTB creating infinite mana.

Village Bell-Ringer

Emiel the Blessed + Village Bell-Ringer + Circle of Dreams Druid creates infinite green mana. For this combo you can also substitute Selvala, Heart of the Wilds *f-etch*, Priest of Titaniafoil, any combination of mana dorks that tap for four mana, or Earthcraft. From there you use the mana the same as the Felidar Guardian combos to blink things infinitely and draw your library.

Lightning Greaves

Emiel the Blessed + Lightning Greaves works with any of Circle of Dreams Druid, Priest of Titaniafoil, or Selvala, Heart of the Wilds *f-etch*. Tap the mana dork for at least four mana, equip the Lightning Greaves to Emiel the Blessed, use the floating mana to blink the dork, then equip the Greaves back to the dork, tap, rinse, repeat, infinite mana.

With a deck skewing so heavily towards combo and ETB creatures, I felt a toolbox nature was the best strategy, prioritizing putting creatures directly into play.

CREATURES TO BATTLEFIELD

  1. Green Sun's Zenith *f-etch*
  2. Finale of Devastation *f-etch*
  3. Nature's Rhythm
  4. Chord of Callingfoil
  5. Eldritch Evolution
  6. Natural Order

CREATURES TO HAND

  1. Worldly Tutor
  2. Eladamri's Call
  3. Survival of the Fittest

NON-CREATURE TUTORS

These all find combo pieces with Enlightened Tutor grabbing Survival of the Fittest, Earthcraft, or The One Ring, while the land tutors all find Gaea's Cradle.

  1. Enlightened Tutor
  2. Crop Rotation
  3. Elvish Reclaimer
  4. Knight of the Reliquary
  5. Primeval Titan

I chose to prioritize mana dork ramp over land ramp (like Nature's Lore) because Emiel the Blessed is a deck that cares about creatures. Sure, I'm weak to Wrath of God. That's what happens when you play a creature deck.

ROCKS AND ENCHANTMENTS

  1. Chrome Mox
  2. Mox Diamond
  3. Sol Ringfoil
  4. Wild Growth
  5. Utopia Sprawl
  6. Earthcraft

BLINKABLE LAND RAMP

  1. Wood Elvesfoil
  2. Sutina, Speaker of the Tajuru
  3. Overlord of the Hauntwoodsfoil

INTERACTION

Most of the interaction is on creatures for blinkable value, but we need to make sure we have flexible and efficient spell-based removal to handle an opposing Torpor Orb or Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines.

  1. Swords to Plowsharesfoil
  2. Path to Exile
  3. Force of Vigorfoil
  4. Reclamation Sage
  5. Skyclave Apparitionfoil
  6. Solitude
  7. Endurance

CARD ADVANTAGE

As with the interaction, most of our Card Advantage comes from blinking creatures. These are especially good when we have infinite mana and can funnel it through our commander to draw our deck. But cards like Sylvan Library and The One Ring are also helpful as efficient draw engines that are not dependent on board state.

  1. Elvish Visionary
  2. Helpful Hunter
  3. Spirited Companion
  4. Wall of Blossomsfoil
  5. Wall of Omens
  6. White Plume Adventurer
  7. Guardian Project
  8. Soul of the Harvest
  9. The Great Henge
  10. Esper Sentinel
  11. Sylvan Library
  12. The One Ring

UTILITY

These cards don't fit into any of the above categories, but they're some of the most important in the deck. Their flexibility in function are vital to making the deck work.

RECURSION

  1. Karmic Guide
  2. Eternal Witness

PROTECTION

  1. Cloudshift
  2. Ephemeratefoil
  3. Legolas's Quick Reflexesfoil
  4. Lightning Greaves
