Yeah I didn’t think about Abrade , could be better than Annul . Are there many artifacts going around in Pioneer?

Hardhitta7 on H: Binder W: Pioneer Prowess

I’m looking to build my first Pioneer deck, and of course it’s prowess! I have some random cards mostly EDH stuff that I wanna trade for my new deck. If you’re interested in cards under $2 you can look through my binder, can’t promise everything is up to date though.

Edit: My Binder is now up to date so you can check that out if you wish.

I really like this because my boy Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger makes an appearance and pushed the deck up. I think the royal scions is ok but maybe could use some other blue spell. Opt is nice but I personally think this is missing the Annul or Cancel to control sligthly more.

Erm . . . I'm not sure if I got the right piece of info through, so let me clarify just in case

Denial counters basically everything(noncreature) if cast t1, and it is very likely to counter things turn 2-3. You can drop a 4+ power creature t3, and then protect it with Denial. Granted, Denial is best with cheap big things, but that's because its role is often " Turn Aside for your Shadow, but with the upside of hitting a lot more relevant things".

Really, I would be using Denial as a way to keep my opponents from killing my big thing in Modern, meaning that technically, you can still just use Spell Pierce in the same spot.

But I guess you just want big things to go with denial, in which case look at https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=cmc%3D1+legal%3Amodern+pow%3E%3D4 , https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=cmc%3D2+legal%3Amodern+pow%3E%3D4, https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=oracle%3Adelve+type%3Acreature+legal%3Amodern

If you're simply looking to be able to counter spells for 1 mana in Modern, Spell Pierce , Spell Snare , Miscast , Annul , and Mystical Dispute are all variants on that effect.

If you want to build with Denial and a big creature, Grixis Death's Shadow is a great deck.

If you're trying to protect a reasonable sized creature, any cool low cmc creature plus any counterspell is fine.

What is it specifically you want to do?

Don't be afraid to go a bit heavy on 1 mana cards in a garfield deck btw. There's a metric ton of conditionally insane blue counterspells that cost a single blue to cast.
Dispell, Swan Song, Flusterstorm, Annul, Ceremonious Rejection, Blue Elemental Blast, Hydroblast, Nix, Spell Snare, Stifle, and Spell Pierce, just to name the "best of the bunch"

Invisible Stalker is definitely there. (I personally can't think of many more cheap CMC creatures myself, however, a couple cheap Aura enchantments which give hexproof such as Alpha Authority and Starlit Mantle could be used. Unfortunately it seems like I overestimated how many cheap hexproof creatures exist.

As far as cheap counter spells, I'm moreso talking about the CMC 1 counters, which are not too expensive and definitely exist. Good ones are Stifle, Annul, Dispel, Envelop, Flusterstorm, Spell Pierce, and Swan Song. (You'll definitely want to think about your playgroup for some of those).

Raven's Crime and Life from the Loam together is just a simple combo. Add Lands from grave to hand with Loam, use them to make your opponents discard with retrace. (You can also use Delirium Skeins or Mind Rake, or even Tasigur's Cruelty because of the dredge. Not necessarily a combo so much as cards that just generally synergize.

I hadn't realized that the reason you described was the purpose of using Leyline of Anticipation. If that is why, you might consider cards like Kruphix, God of Horizons.
