-Open the Gates, -Simic Guildgate +Winged Coatl, +Simic Growth Chamber

After extensive testing and consulting the Necrosages for their infinite wisdom, I have realized that Open the Gates wasn't all that great in a two color build as I had initially hoped. Additionally, I'm dropping Simic Guildgate as I was just including it to make the search more live.

In their place I'm putting Simic Growth Chamber back in as it can allow me to double up on a land's etb. A completely new addition, and a fellow Noodle too, is Winged Coatl, aka the Golden Gun. It allows me to be a bit more reactive in the voltron mirror, as it can kill anything it blocks.

Finally, I'm considering the following cards for future testing: Foil and Dizzy Spell

removed Duskwatch Recruiter  Flip for Lightning Greaves

removed Moonmist for Vines of Vastwood: Fighting doesn't count as combat-damage, oops

removed Plains for Silent Clearing

removed Swamp for Fetid Heath

removed Palace Jailer for Bolas's Citadel: Palace jailer can go bad when I can't hold the monarch, and the plan to put the target on another person rarely works. Bolas might give me great card advantage, even though I never expect the activated ability to occur.

removed Lightning Greaves for Necrologia: Lighting greaves are not worth the place because I don't care if Kambal dies, and at some point he always dies, even if through my own sweeps.

removed Sphere of Safety for Tragic Arrogance: Sphere is expensive and for that quite weak unless I have other enchantments. Trying another boardswipe instead.

removed Cliffhaven Vampire for Ankh of Mishra: Vampire is not bad but costy, and I don't want to play with the infinite combo. Ankh instead should punish some of the really heavy ramping that occurs in my group.

removed Profane Procession  Flip for Smothering Tithe: Profane is pretty expensive if I want just one creature gone. Tithe instead is not only great mana but also gives a nice psychological factor of annoying your opponents.

removed Vizkopa Guildmage for Cataclysm *list*: Guildmage might or might not be good but is very dependant on what I can do and the first ability I have no use for. Cataclysm instead is also to battle the heavy ramping and kinda "restarts" the game, just with my opponents hopefully having >10 less life.

The Adversary of Certainty

Labrodor64, 5 years ago

I replaced Lapse of Certainty for Ajani, Adversary of Tyrants. The more Planewalkers I have the better and Lapse of Certainty will delay a spell for a turn for 3 mana which isn’t great. Also, Ajani’s ultimate will create tokens every turn which is always welcome in this deck as chum blockers or lab rats for our Planeswalkers!

removed Paradox Engine for City of Solitude

removed Instill Energy for Angel's Grace: a buddy informed me that the card was erratad to NOT give haste, which was the main reason why I had it in there

removed Nature's Chosen for Generous Gift: I'm unsure if those 1-mana untap once are worth it, but I want more interaction.

removed Join Shields for Abeyance: Join Shields costs too much, Abeyance either baits a counterspell while replacing itself or stops a player from going off.

removed Evolving Wilds for Prismatic Vista

removed Terramorphic Expanse for Windswept Heath

removed Forest for Bountiful Promenade

Happy with Thada, less so Ludevic.

DaveofCanada, 5 years ago

Ludevic feeds into Fury Storm pretty well but he doesn't do much, the deck isn't running *that* many aggressive creatures and donating Ludevic is only so relevant. Kraum has proven himself worthy of the role, albeit at the cost of Fury Storm's effectiveness. A worthy sacrifice when you consider how much draw you're able to get off the guy.

Update #1

RebirthCross, 5 years ago

Retired another EDH deck i had (Ulamog incase anyone was wondering) and traded some of those cards to give Odric a boost. Unfortunately draw is still an issue. will update as i find answers.

Worth It?

OUT: Coalition Relic, Acidic Sliver

IN: Cloudstone Curio, Lavabelly Sliver

Very commonly, I find that the Coalition Relic doesn't do what I want / would be better served elsewhere. Also, since this deck now spam out more bodies than it used to, I figured Lavabelly would be a good addition. Lastly, swapped in the Curio for more Shenanigans, and took out Acidic because I don't usually have mana or slivers worth flinging.

Also considering some other slivers that may do other interesting things, but I want to see how this goes first.

More power...!(?)

OUT: Yawgmoth's Vile Offering

IN: The Great Henge

Swapping out one legendary spell that I cannot recur with Kethis, the Hidden Hand due to the fact that the Offering exiles itself on resolution, for something that will hopefully help keep the deck going some more with making my creatures larger / ramp / draw in The Great Henge.

OUT: Vivien's Arkbow

IN: Marisi, Breaker of the Coilfoil

So, after a little playtesting, I found that, while the Arkbow can be a replacement for Mayael, I find I have to toss something decent with the hopes of getting something good. Also, I want to try out more control effects of sorts, and Marisi might help me keep some heat off me.

Taking advantage

Master_J, 5 years ago

OUT: Zulaport Cutthroat, Blood Artist, Falkenrath Noble, Sun Droplet

IN: Ajani's Pridemate, Bloodthirsty Aerialist, Bolas's Citadel,, Sensei's Divining Top

Relying on things to die for my life triggers is ok, but I mostly exile with this deck, so I have to rely on my opponents to kill things, which will mostly be my stuff. So I swapped out some of those guys for things that will also benefit in a similar manner as Karlov, like the Pridemate and Aerialist.

On a different note, Bolas's Citadel is nuts, and with the ability to gain some life back, I can potentially run through this deck pretty easily.

Lastly, swapping out the Sun Droplet for the spinning top. I figure this will give me a little better card selection, as well as help with Bolas's Citadel.

Edits made because Ramos is hard to keep out

madenach, 5 years ago

Once people see he's a real threat he gets due removal haha. I'm switching out some stuff that were included because of their great synergy with Ramos for cards that have decent synergy and more quality return, just in case I can't keep him out and the engine gets halted.

Trades:

Seedborn Muse coming in for Yidris, Maelstrom Wielderfoil: Situationally Yidris is great. He 4 colors to 4 cmc is wonderful for Ramos, and early game he is a compelling threat. I'm pulling him, however, because his cascade ability and the timing of it can be difficult to work with, especially since we want to pump Ramos before attack phase. SBMuse on the other hand is a fantastic card whether or not Ramos is out. Having open lands to play instants is important and she combo's beautifully with Ramos when he IS out, essentially giving him vigilance.

Leyline of Anticipation coming in for Conflux: I love everything about conflux except for it's outrageous cost. I've never needed to tutor 5 cards. That's excessive. I wish it was 5 cmc and read something like, Choose 3: search library for a red card, search library for a blue...The fact is this card is usually a dead draw because I don't want to drop 8 mana to tutor 5 whole cards. I'm switching in the raw power of Leyline to see what it does.

Traveler's Amulet coming in for Armillary Sphere: Nothing profound here. Traveler's amy can be a nice colorless Rampant Growth if you have some extra mana and haven't cast a land yet, all done on one turn. even if you only have one excess it's easier to get out than A.Sphere. Not as big but not as expensive either.

Temur Charm coming in for Plasm Capture: Plasm capture was sitting in my hand too often because of the 4 symbols. Love PC's flavor but I will take a 3for3 that also has other utility for now.

Cold-Eyed Selkie coming in for Debt to the Deathless: Never played it but I didn't like the synergy. Especially with X and Cascade. CES has low threat, cost and reasonable color-to-cmc

Aetherize coming in for Sudden Spoiling: Both of these cards are great for turning a play on its head. SS potential is undeniable. What I don't like about it, though, is that sometimes it doesn't do enough to eliminate aggro threats. Creatures with counters are unaffected. Nyjeela's BS is delayed for but a single turn. You might be able to eliminate a few threats but I wanted to play with aetherize and see what its worth was

Mini Update 2

slick-nikki-nik, 5 years ago

Took out Reality Acid, and Aetherflux Reservoir.

Reality Acid, although a win con, is bad to just drop by itself. Aetherflux Reservoir was part of a janky back-up plan. It's better to focus more on primary game plans.

Added Dig Through Time and Elspeth, Sun's Champion.

Dig Through Time helps dig for the combos, Elspeth is a, potentially one sided, boardwipe, and provides good value.

I'm thinking of adding Smothering Tithe and Windfall (which also combos with Narset, Parter of Veils) but still considering that.

1-2 record. Mana base felt awkward, several times i was missing a color or colorless. I don't really remember sideboard too much - Frilled mystic is spice and felt great to have as a chord option. once its down with biomancer displacer opp is basically done. - Tayos lightshield kind of mopey. I put in as 1 of to help grind and potentially turn the combo finish into a win on the same turn. might not be good. - Elves lived which was great but green mana was never an issue really. might be better cut for more lands? game 1 vs mono green aggro -opp has strong start and i get stuck on two lands and dont really do anything until its too late. -opp fumbled on 1 land and I just fill the board and swing and win without them doing much - better game, opp has decent start, i get biomancer down on turn 3 and displacer t4 chumping with duskwatch along the way. his board is mostly (3?) dryad militants, a scooze, pelt collector. around turn 6 he swings in for a lot, cast coco into deputy of detention and reflector mage. take his dryad militants and bounce pelt collector. Proceed to bounce all his creatures back and lock him out of doing anything.

Proliferate???

edhforthewin, 5 years ago

Adding Karn’s Bastion in for late game. Counters can really help us go wide. And one colorless land won’t make that big of a difference since we are only depending on two colors. And Flower // Flourish fixes our mana too. Also need to fix my mana base because green is more important early game.
